  1. If you take into account all costs including items like the cost of the Internet bandwidth used to handle emails of the streetcar project manager, then I would assuming you would also take into account items like: 1) the savings benefits of less frequent bus routes running in the area replaced by a more efficient streetcar and 2) decreased health care costs due to slightly decreased pollution in the area due to the streetcar. I guess what I'm trying to say in a sarcastic way is: "Where do you draw the line on costs, savings and revenue generation projections?"
  2. Anyone know if all the jack hammering Duke Energy is doing (right now as I'm trying to work) on Walnut between 4th and 5th has anything to do with the streetcar utility moves?
  3. This is my problem with those that constantly feel the need to bash Apple products because they can't do something specific that 90% of the users don't want/need. Apple's products (despite minor flaws found in all computer systems and somewhat limited functionality based on their proprietary ecosystem) are well designed, quality products that suit the needs of most people. The "world's most valuable company" got that way as a direct result of knowing what people want (e.g. not throwing the kitchen sink into their products).
  4. On Tuesday, December 13th the Downtown Residents Council (DRC) with host Kevin Kline (General Manager of Caeser's Cincinnati Casino) as a speaker presenting on all things about the casino. Members and non-members are welcome to attend, so come with an open mind, a friend, and your questions. Time/Location: Main Branch Library - Third Floor Tower Room @ 6:00pm
  5. We will be living on the streetcar line when/if it is ever built. As it is, we currently drive to Findlay market even though it is only nine blocks away. I would never drive through traffic and park in that mess unless it were absolutely necessary (can't walk that far carrying groceries). We will certainly take the streetcar to get groceries at Findlay Market and for that matter down to the Riverfront with our children as taking transit would be much more convenient. I am hopful that the streetcar coupled with some car sharing/renting programs will make rehabbing the Bartlett Building as rentals much more feasible.
  6. I agree, but it seems to me that there needs to be more residential with parking first, then more retail services, then some no-parking residential. Also, for what it's worth, I think there are quite a bit grocery options downtown and OTR that will be well connected once we can get the streetcar project started.
  7. With no parking? I'm not sure if Cincinnati's downtown is ready for a large no-parking residential product yet. Downtown needs to continue to add more businesses (retail, food, etc...) that would serve all an individual's needs without the need for a car. Car programs like Zipcar and car sharing could serve the occasional car needs, but those services are far from being entrenched here. As time goes on and services/businesses increase, I do believe the local culture will become more comfortable with the idea of having a no car residential product.
  8. Where did you get this info, because I have been unable to find the supporting details?

They're following me too and I rarely post to Twitter at all about anything.
  10. How is this even a story? Of course Qualls will succeed Mallory. Of course only a token ® will run against her and lose badly. Does this only seem obvious to me?
  11. If you're a bit cheap like me and don't want to spend $150 for you and your significant other, or if you're just busy tonight you can donate any amount via Paypal by going to http://event.emerytheatre.com/donate.php .
  12. I believe the entertainment district they are trying to set up in OTR will improve late night dining options since more restaurants will have liquor licenses and therefore have the high margin alcohol sales making it worth staying open later.
  13. +1 I know there are many, many, many reasons why this project has been delayed. However, I'll have a difficult time donating time/money to fight the next ballot initiative if there is no visible progress being made on this project.
  14. Just as an FYI, the individual who initially was trying to convince me that PG Sittenfeld was a streetcar supporter emailed me this morning and noted "he voted No on 48, he is NOT a streetcar supporter". Due to the emphasis on the "NOT" I'm guessing he made it clear to her that he will definitely not support this project.
  15. That location is a really crappy single story building that was once a mobile phone store with an all glass facade. No too much of a loss in my book.
  16. XUMelanie and I would love to be at the rally tonight, but we have board meeting and kid stuff. Whoever attends I'd love to hear how things go.
  17. I would agree with that if the 4 or 5 aren't individuals like Qualls who are almost guaranteed to win or those like Sandra Queen Noble who are almost guaranteed to lose. I would agree voting for those individuals is realistically pretty much a waste of time.
  18. The problem is that if you don't vote for 9 then people like Smitherman may squeak in since others are voting almost exclusively for the radicals. For me, I had chosen 7 good ones and picked a couple of additional individuals that I don't like, but are heads and heels above the others.
  19. Park + Vine at 12th and Main downtown www.parkandvine.com/
  20. The anti-Issue 48 press event at City Hall today drew out dozens of supporters and had some fantastic speakers who spoke to the dangers of banning all passenger rail in Cincinnati for nearly a decade. The best comment made by a speaker was based on the quote often attributed to Mark Twain to the effect of "if I knew the world was coming to an end, I would go to Cincinnati because everything happens ten years later in Cincinnati." He noted that this issue would put into our charter just that. Too true, too true.
  21. I'd agree totally with the lack of quality of The Banks apartments. I was told to not be fearful when walking out on the balcony of one of the apartments because they apparently always shake by design. Then there are the unpainted wooden beams that hold them up that look really, really tacky. I could go for an entire page with many design flaws and poor materials. I would have to imagine if they were being sold as condos most people would take a pass.
  22. I just got an email from someone I have great respect for that recently spoke with PG Stittenfeld on his streetcar stance. Apparently, PG "...DOES indeed support the Streetcar and is against Issue 48 !! Furthermore, he's recently been on TV news and interviewed in the Enquirer and has unequivocally remained consistently in support of the Streetcar." Either he's changed his tune, or more likely he's playing both sides to get elected. Any thoughts?

For all the latest project details, pics, etc... you'll need to check out their Facebook group page below. A fence is up, trees are planted and a big cleanup of the area just completed recently. No official opening is set but it is available for use during the day. They have done a pretty good job making this happen! https://www.facebook.com/groups/DowntownDogRA/
  24. As I said before, this is why it is so hard for me to vote no on Issue 2. Couldn't they have just made no endorsement either way?
