US Economy: News & Discussion
Ouch! I still don't expect the stock market to fully crash until Summer 2019, but man has it been a bumpy few days.

Cincinnati: Bars / Nightlife News
I'm glad this is no longer a crack bar, but I'm still not happy that the owner of the building that ran that crack bar is collecting rent from these folks. It just doesn't seem fair when criminal behavior is rewarded.

Hamilton County Politics
To be honest I really dislike Monzel and lately the Republican party in general so I voted for Dumas. I can't say I know anything about her. She shouldn't be worse than Monzel.

US Economy: News & Discussion
My gut feeling is that the stock market still has a fair amount of down left in it. If you're a consistent investor just keep putting in your regular amount and you'll do plenty well. We're going to hold on to a little cash we've accumulated until I feel like the market has hit bottom some time mid next year. We're hedging our bets by doing the regular 401K payroll deduction in case I'm wrong.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Just from a purely selfish reason I hope they'd keep the Central Parkway and Vine stop. If I just miss the streetcar at 12th/Race I can run to the CP/Vine stop. I'm too old to run further ;).

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I see quite a few groups of people on scooters and have seen quite a few women riding them. That being said, my feeling is that there is some impact, but not that great of one. The morning commute which had been for the longest time just me and sometimes another person has jumped up to a half dozen or so.

US Economy: News & Discussion
I'm waiting until Summer 2019 to really put some money into the market (still continuing my steady bi-weekly 401k deduction just in case I'm off). My bet is that by then the market will have bottomed out due to all backlash from the disastrous Republican taxing decisions combined with the trade war fallout hopefully hitting its peak.

Owning Rental Property in Ohio's Cities
xumelanie[/member] and I no longer own a rental property we sold and I'm going through the process of doing up the final taxes and balance sheet work. It's been a crazy ride, but was just too much work for us to do with kids and a full time other job.

Yeah, didn't Smitty's burn down their buildings due to their substandard wiring? How was that 3CDC's doing?

That was the former 1132 [crack] Bar. Glad to hear it's opening as a legitimate business, but unfortunately the owners of the former crack bar still own the building. I'm hoping the people who are opening this bar are careful with their lease with those sleaze bags.

Blockchains and Cryptocurriences
Those seem like decent predictions although my guesses would be they wouldn't fall that far. However, I'll make no bet as these so-call currencies are driven by pure human emotion which is nearly impossible to predict.

Weather
Yikes. Storms aren't entirely based on the particular temperature at the moment in a particular location. Storms are formed by weather patterns, jet streams, warm fronts, etc.... The science shows that storms in general are getting worse due to global warming. While there can't be direct percentage based attribution to this particular storm, storms are and will continue to get worse. I agree a higher heat content creates bigger storms. You also need a strong temperature gradient to mix cold and warm air, hence fall. There's a definite debate about whether storms are getting "worse". There's evidence in the US that storms produce more rainfall, but there is no real set of global data and the US is a small area of the globe. Can you provide a link to some study that questions that storms aren't getting worse since you're saying this is a debatable argument? Warmer air holds more water and it's well documented temperatures are getting hotter. I've never read anywhere someone actually saying what you are implying. I've read quite a few study briefs and every single one of them indicates storms are getting worse and will continue to do so.

Weather
We had an absolute downpour last night in downtown Cincinnati. From 5:15pm to almost 6:30pm the rain was coming down in buckets with non-stop lightning and a period of ten minutes of hail. Power is out all over the city, traffic lights are inconsistent at best and streets are flooded. I've never seen the like. I'm hoping this weather over time doesn't get too much worse, but with global warming I'm a bit worried what the future holds. On the other side, I was talking to a co-worker from Mason (just north of Cincinnati) this morning and they got absolutely nothing.

2018 Gubernatorial Election
Aftab's going to suffer from low information voters who tend to vote based on their gut feeling of a candidate and not the positions they hold. Unfortunately, there are far too many of these people who will stay with the grey-faced, old, white male incumbent versus someone who I'm guessing is from Indian descent.

Cincinnati: Complete Streets, Road Diets, and Traffic Calming
The message from Redbike on that Orchard location change was a riot. They really played up that the location was going to move once the bump outs were done. They then followed that up with the change of location was to move it seven feet west.

bfwissel replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI love Eagle's chicken, but I'm also a big fan of Ron's Roost too. Where Eagle shines is the amazing sides. I can get a candied bacon starter, succotash and a mini cast iron skillet with corn bread in it. Pair that with a large selection of beers as well as the ability to walk to the location and it has become one of my favorite places to eat.

Cincinnati's Homeless Population
Technically no, if it is a controlled substance owners of private property have a duty to report it or they may be subject to fines. This is often easier said than done and hard to enforce but technically it is the law. For example, in apartments, if your tenant is known to have drugs in the unit (even if they are not a dealer) then under Ohio law, you are required to evict them (if you can prove the illegal drug activity). If you do not evict them and let the illegal drug activity go on, the landlord may be subjected to fines. If that's true about evictions that's pretty funny. The head of Tender Mercies has told me that new-ish HUD rules indicate they are required to try to keep drug addicts housed even if they're actively abusing. This means their properties on 12th Street between Race and Vine are a constant nuisance with drug abuse/dealing happening all the time in front of their buildings as well as in the surrounding area.
