  1. So, Pdrome513[/member] your argument for the CSO's bid is below. I sort of get #1, but the rest seems like total bunk. Could you please elaborate on points #2-4, because the arguments come off as hyperbolic conjecture. It is certainly easy to see based off of the CSO's history how well they perform in efforts beyond Music Hall and it is pathetic to say the least. 1) "CSO's reinvestment of revenues in cultural events benefiting the city" 2) "guaranteed use and fair compensation of union workers" 3) "reclaimed opportunity cost of real estate at The Banks Promowest would have used" 4) "the possibility of incorporating the CSO venue into an astounding weekend-long concert festival on the banks of the river that would be an incomparable showcase for the city, many times moreso than Bunbury"

  3. Yeah, the CSO building a venue on The Banks has xumelanie[/member] and I really bummed out. They just are not very good at running things outside their operations at Music Hall.
  4. Like I said, depending on where you walk in OTR (even in the southern part) you can certainly see drugs deals on a daily basis. I'm not sure about exchanging baggies though. Usually they just give you bits out of the baggies.
  5. A police officer lives across the street from that Kroger and sees drug dealing from his window all the time. I was floored when I heard him say it as I too wondered why they can't do anymore there. The biggest problem is Kroger that hires private security and instructs them to not patrol or call in issues in their lot or the sidewalk in front.
  6. Not saying you're wrong, but do you see drugs/money actually being exchanged? I've never encountered that kind of out in the open drug dealing in OTR. I used to see that in parts of North Philly, but not here. Yes, I do actually see money exchanging hands and buyers holding out their hand afterwards examining to make sure they got all the crack or heroin they're due. Far too often it results in arguments as well. That is why there was a shooting a year ago in front of Tender Mercies and a pistol whipping six months ago at the corner of 12th/Race. I'm trying to get the Tender Mercies folks to be better neighbors, but they're claiming HUD rules now don't allow them to easily evict addicts and dealers (which I'm pretty skeptical about).
  7. I pass a drug deal nearly every day (sometimes twice) walking just over a block from 12th/Vine to 12th/Race. It is rare that I walk to Kroger on Vine and NOT see a drug deal happening in their parking lot or just adjacent to their lot. There is a lot of drug dealing in OTR still despite a great amount of improvement over the last two decades.
  8. Cars have been broken into in the police parking lot and John Street just a block away from District 1 is a major drug dealing site including murders in the past. Being next to District 1 headquarters does not necessarily make the area safer.
  9. I'm a bit sad, but we've put our rental for sale over the weekend. I'll be sure to write up a post-sale "lessons learned" once it's purchased. https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/oh/cincinnati/30-e-central-parkway/pid_25175927/
  10. Many of the dealers don't live in OTR. They live in the West End, Price Hill, etc.... For the four years I've lived near 12th/Race we've just finally started making a dent in the area. The problem isn't necessarily with people calling in crimes (although it certainly would help), it's an issues with some officers being apathetic to the crime in the neighborhood and not enough jail space to hold people. For 2 1/2 years I had been calling the police regularly on a particular dealer even using his name when calling in. Towards the end of that time two officers showed up at my door threatening to charge me for excessive calling on the individual. Towards the end of that pow-wow, as I was telling them off, the individual came back trying to deal again. Shortly afterwards I met with the District 1 Captain and some other of the decent neighborhood officers who promised to work more in the area and take my concerns seriously. They finally got some undercover buys on the dealer and put him in jail, but the Sheriff had to let him out before his court date due to overcrowding. The dealer has not returned and is still a wanted felon. Until there is more accountability for officers and more money is made available for public safety, OTR will continue its snail pace towards becoming safer.
  11. I listened to a bunch of The Chainsmokers stuff and... meh. It's OK, but I'm hoping they are the types that are even better live. I'm thinking I'm just not in their demographic even though the way the genre is described seems like it should be right up my alley. P.S. I literally LOL'd when they mentioned Blink-182 in their Closer song.
  12. I really must be old because I have barely even heard of The Chainsmokers. Can someone recommend a few of their best songs that I should check out?
  13. Are the Chainsmokers really that popular? Maybe I'm just an old man, but I'm shocked they would get higher billing than Blink 182.

Yeah, I decided at the last minute to vote for Michelle in the last City Council election. I won't make that mistake again.

So apparently a group is gathering petitions to cancel the public infrastructure improvements needed to build the new West End stadium. I saw people last night collecting signatures in the neighborhood. They have 30 days to collect 6,000 valid signatures to put it on the ballot. Are there that many registered voters who are that against the new stadium?
  16. Yeah, Friday is the only night I'm going and I'm pretty disappointed. Still, it's a music festival and I'll get to hear a bunch of other bands and hang out with my wife, so I hate complaining. The $80 cost for a night out without a headliner is a bit frustrating though.
  17. Has everyone seen the additional advertising signage available on the sides of the station pay locations as well? Seems like they are doing plenty if not too much on the advertising part.
  18. The problem is that you don't bring up serious or challenging ideas at all. You only come to this forum as a whiny ^[/member]#$%$ with little real information to share and even less understanding of the issues you bring up. This loser, Eeyore mentality you bring with you without proposing any ideas on ways to improve situations other than spend millions of dollars on vagaries is draining and pointlessly trolly.
  19. Negotiating with a Community Council of any kind is really difficult. With the OTR and West End councils it is nothing short of impossible.
  20. I'm not sure I get all the poo-poo'ing of these crazy, fun ideas people have for places in OTR. I'm sure very few will be around for very long, but they're fun. If a building is getting fixed up it could be re-used with a different concept later. Why all the hate?
  21. I'm just tired of the argument that a person can be consistently sleazy, but it's chalked up to be to their credit. Berding was not being a good negotiator. He was lying and intentionally trying to screw over people of the community. He did it with the Bengals stadium deal and now he's trying to do it with the FC Cincinnati deal. I'd love to have the stadium in the community, but the way he's tried to screw over people is not a good thing.
  22. Uh, yea, but everyone expects it from Berding. Isn't that the mentality that got us Trump? He's an immoral sleaze bag, but that's just good old Trump for ya!
  23. Brought to you by American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) the far-right Conservative organization that is part of the reason we're in the mess we're in now.
  24. Is the prevalence of angled photos a new style thing that people are doing?
  25. While I tend to agree that the West End needs the community agreement much more than OTR, this behavior by Smitherman is hardly surprising. The legislation was subject to several last-minute changes, including severing Over-the-Rhine, which is one block away from the stadium, from a community benefits agreement of which the council must approve in order for FC Cincinnati to receive city funding. City Hall sources say that condition came from Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman, an independent, who did not immediately return a text seeking comment. https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/04/16/council-approves-fc-cincinnati-deal-clearing-the.html
