Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Ziegler Park Renovation
Not being able to decode some lazy acronym usage is an issue with the poster and not that of all the other forum users.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
xumelanie[/member] and I flew to Chicago over the weekend. The mass transit at the Chicago Midway airport and in downtown Chicago was super convenient and heavily used. When we got back to Cincinnati (CVG) and went to board the 2x bus back to Cincinnati we found the bus stop to be a tiny two seater shelter directly next to a pet relieving station. It certainly shows our priorities here in Cincy.

Going to be remade into a boutique hotel from what I hear.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Music Hall
Include my dad in that group. He's not a big donor or anything, but he is planning on giving up their tickets in part due to the removal of the skywalk. I tried to convince him that a traffic cop or two would assuredly make sure people get across, but could not convince him.

Hamilton County Auditor
The Auditor is using a third party firm that supposedly is good at doing valuations. From speaking with a lot of neighbors it just doesn't seem that they're good at doing valuations in an urban environment (or at all really).

Hamilton County Auditor
The thing is that's not how it works. I've posted an actual example of how I purchased a home three years ago and it was appraised $110K less than my purchase price and $200K less than a similar unit that had sold recently. You clearly only have a superficial understanding of the process which makes your personal attacks on other OU members really bizarre. Your personal experience is not helpful. It works exactly as described above. And, if you are referring to 1126 Race, you purchased it for $355,000 and it is currently valued at $355,000. It has always been appraised at $355,000 since the day you bought it because that was the recent purchase price. Your taxes are not applied to the full amount because of tax loophole financing the developer obtained. That has uttterly nothing to do with the appraisal. Its called TIF financing. Please do not embarrass yourself again. The reappraisals are not published yet. I got a letter in the mail that required me to respond to the tentative change in valuation by the Auditor. You clearly have no idea what's going on. If you don't understand the process that's going on right now please do not post pretending you do and attacking people in the process.

I did feel kind of bad that they would appraise our property so much lower than its worth. Didn't seem to fair to bail on our obligation to the community. That being said, we didn't argue it was worth what we thought it was worth. We just argued it was worth what we paid for it a few years ago.

Hamilton County Auditor
Just as an aside, our ~1,800 square foot condo near the SCPA was recently appraised by the Hamilton County Auditor for ~$220K. We sent in the letter arguing that a condo about the same size a few doors down just weeks ago sold for $400K and that ours was probably worth what we paid for it about three years ago. I'm not sure what company Dusty contacted with, but from what I hear they seem to be particularly bad at appraising especially in urban neighborhoods.

Cincinnati City Council
Any thoughts from you Urban Ohio folks on Michelle Dillingham? She's on the bubble right now for me.

Cincinnati City Council
Best I can tell, below is the current list of people running for City Council. Am I missing or adding someone in error? I put a + in front of those I'm voting for, X for those I'm certainly NOT voting for and the rest I'm not sure. Anyone have any thoughts or concerns on my current picks or on those I'm uncertain about? I've only picked six so far and would prefer to vote for nine. Theo Barnes + Derek Bauman X Cristina Burcica Ozie Davis III + Tamaya Dennard ? Sedrick Denson ? Michelle Dillingham Tonya Dumas Kit Earls Manuel Foggie ? Henry Frondorf + Brian Garry Mary Hall Lesley Jones + Greg Landsman X Damon Lynch IV X Seth Maney X David Mann X Amy Murray Dawud Mustafa Beverly Odoms X Jeff Pastor Kelli Prather Laure Quinlivan Michael Rachford + Chris Seelbach X P.G. Sittenfeld X Christopher Smitherman Tamie Sullivan X Matt Teaford X Edith Thrower X Orlando Welborn + Wendell Young

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'm no longer going to use the streetcar for my evening commute until the Brent Spence Bridge construction is complete. South of Fifth Street is a complete disaster during rush hour which is causing an addition 15-20 minute extra delay to do the southern-most part of the loop.

Cincinnati Aerial Photos (2017)
We live across from SCPA and have a nice flat roof with no shade. I've thought many times that solar panels would be great, but the economics of it are still just out of range. Hopefully (even with Trump as President), this will change in the next few years.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
As an owner of a south facing unit in the American Building I can tell you I could give a s#!^ about the additional short period of time per day that the building would have a shadow. The building is on a major thoroughfare in the city. It should have some tall buildings on it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
Josh would never sell the properties. He would insist to make them low income housing and insist the City of Cincinnati pay for ALL the improvements. Any money he would make would be used to buy up other properties to do the same.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
At least part of the high ridership in KC can be attributed to having none of these problems. The Banks, I believe, is the only stop with two kiosks. It might cost $1 million to put a second kiosk at every station, but it might be worth it. I just think if they get machines that actually work that might solve the majority of the issues.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
Honestly, I'm still putting the odds of this development at 50/50. Just because they've announced the development does not mean that it's for certain going to be built.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I was trying to help a grandfather and his little grandson get on the streetcar yesterday to do a loop before the Reds game and it was a complete disaster. The machines are still extremely difficult to use and if you use a credit card it rarely works. After waiting almost four minutes for the machine to accept his credit card (kept saying "processing") the grandfather finally just gave up. I'm not sure why at this point we haven't gotten our money back for the machines and real-time notification system since neither seems to really work.

Personal Finance / Investing Thread
This. Absolutely this. There is no way that the trickle down economics push is sustainable and as such taxes will have to eventually be jacked up in the next 10, 20, 30 years to cover the debts issues created by Republican/Trump tax policies. When that happens those that have saved the most will be required to pay the price in higher taxes. I only hope there is no after-the-fact adjustment of Roth IRA rules to tax some of the proceeds of those of us that can see the train wreck coming.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 1010 On The Rhine / Downtown Kroger
Ugh, I know I'm becoming the UrbanOhio curmudgeon, but there is no indication Kroger has any interest in a downtown store much less at this location. If anything we've seen over the last few DECADES that Kroger has absolutely no interest in a downtown store. This random speculation is purely wishful thinking with no basis in fact. The city should be trying to court a more progressive grocer to open a downtown store and stop trying to encourage Kroger to invest in a project against their will.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
As a counter point I suggest no one bother getting involved in the train wreck that is the OTR Community Council. If you truly want to make your voice heard just send letters in support/disapproval for things you're interested in. Work with the police directly through public Safety Sector meetings. Get involved with organizations that are doing actual good in the community and save yourself the headache.

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
John Cranley spoke a moment ago at Fountain Square in an event remembering fallen officers to once again apologize. He followed up the rest of his speech to speak all about him and how he's some grand civil servant. It was a bit sickening, but at least the other speakers were focused on the reason they were there and not themselves.
