Would be nice if the Trump administration would communicate their strategy to the American people rather than just taking random actions - like offering hundreds of buildings for sale. -Is the goal to move more workers to remote and save the building costs? -Is the goal to move workers to more cost effective spaces and, if so, have those properties been identified or do they need to be built -Are we looking to move out of expensive jurisdictions to lower cost jurisdictions to save taxpayer $$s I'm sure the random, chaotic nature of these Trump/DOGE actions is part of a strategy but they are dealing with people's lives We owe it to our friends, neighbors and family members that work for the government to communicate what the plans are Saving money is great - but these are our countrymen - and these savings are not supposed to just be for now but for the long-term. There is no need for this chaos

Why does the FBI building need to be in DC?? Maybe the answer is proximity to the CIA and Homeland Security but that seems like an old way of thinking to me. The Pandemic proved we have the technology to connect from anywhere. Why not put the FBI headquarters in the middle of the country - like Kansas City or St. Louis. I'm sure KC would cost less than DC. I'm sure St. Louis could really use the boost. Anyway, it is this sort of parochial thinking that will prevent a worthwhile move of departments like NASA outside of locations like Ohio
  3. I, like many on this thread, do not trust the Trump Administration but I LOVE these potential moves. As said by many already, moving some Federal government administration functions outside of DC makes perfect sense for a number of reasons: -National Security. Having all functions in one location is a risk to our government functioning in the event of a war/attack. Covid provided we have the technology to various locations -Cost. DC is expensive and we can save the taxpayers' $$$ by moving certain functions to lower cost locales -Economics. The middle class has been decimated in certain parts of the country because politicians enacted policies that allowed US jobs to be exported abroad. These are well-paying jobs that could benefit those areas that have lost some of those manufacturing jobs that have been exported. Sure, some manufacturing may come back - but not all of it. More of this please.

  6. McDonnell-Douglas is a great example. Boeing acquired and rather than keep the HQ/culture in Seattle, they moved to Chicago. The culture changed and Boeing hasn't been the same since. Anyone want to see Cliffs have Boeing-type issues. There is a reason why Cliffs had success - yielding to USX's demands and moving the culture is a recipe for disaster -from a business perspective :)

WHEN DOES AN ACQUIREE GET TO DICTATE TERMS (LIKE A HQ LOCATION)? -If US Steel chose Nippon because they were going to keep the HQ in Pitt - that's adorable (that deal is dead) -US Steel needs to be acquired and Cliffs is the acquirer -For all your bluster Mr. Goncalves, you're in the driver's seat and can dictate terms -The HQ and staffing should be in Cleveland - FULL STOP Anything less and Mr. Goncalves is less than his image and bluster

Trump level bluster. -Crazy that an acquiring company would move to the acquiree's headquarters -Crazy that a newly formed American behemoth would move into an inefficient 1970's space -Crazy that the headquarters would move to a smaller space (I'm pretty sure there are not 1,000 employees in US Steel Tower) Like Trump, I would suggest we follow the actions and not the bluster
  9. Seems highly unlikely that a permanent solutions for a larger company would be to move their headquarters to a Tower in Pittsburgh built in 1970. Cliffs wanted a new headquarters. Interest rates and the cost of construction have come way down since the pandemic. If this deal goes through, time to dust off those old headquarters plans and build a new, efficient towering building that represents the strong, American steel company that Mr. Goncalves is talking about. Sorry, that isn't the USX tower.

    All valid and you hit on some of the reasons why (processed foods and lack of work-life balance). But these things are partially related to why our country is so great. Below is our American productivity vs other nations and our unemployment vs other nations. We are far from perfect and I don't have the answers - but would I rather be overweight but have a meaningful job or thin and unemployment? To be honest, the answer depends on which day you catch me. My bigger point is that, as with most things in life, there are trade-offs. Productivity: Unemployment:
  15. It will take time and money to build world class developments. It took over 4 years to develop the Golden Gate bridge - but I think that was worth it
  16. Another great article. Bedrock really seems like an organization that has the proper vision for what Cleveland can be in the future. There are tons of economic, political and environmental trends that favor Cleveland in the long run. All the city needs are political and business leaders with the vision and ambition to capitalize on those trend.
  17. My take from trying to keep on all of the articles. Below is my updated list of potential large new builds. I'm excluding the new Cavs facility, which is amazing looking, and anything about a new Browns stadium. Ranked in order of likelihood??: -Justice Center Courthouse Tower/ Mid Rise Campus -New Skyline-changing Hotel?? -Lumen II?? -Rocket Mortgage Tower -SWH Tower II -Something else!?!?!?! Out of contention: -New Cleveland Cliffs HQ???

  19. Takes a big man to admit an error - so kudos to you. Glad to hear Amtrust is staying - and curious to see where National General lands.
  20. Would be nice if they took space in another building downtown (even if smaller space because of WFH). A residential conversion + space from AmTrust in a new building just adds to the potential for new builds in the future. Because of WFH, we're unlikely to see major, single-tenant new builds in the future. However, that doesn't mean that the new for new class A space will go away. If just means that companies may be looking for less space in the future and maybe that space is in large mixed-use developments rather than office only space. Cleveland leading the nation in residential conversions gives them a head start on the potential for new, interesting mixed-use builds in the future. Hopefully Amtrust is just an example of this trend.

  22. Do you mean higher on the second tower to mean higher than the first tower or higher than what they originally planned for the second tower? I'd be shocked if phase 2 is taller than phase 1 BUT if it is in the 20 story range - it will be a nice addition to the skyline
