  1. ^That and the 70s were not kind to the center city.
  2. Classic. I predict this to be the running meme in this forum for the next few years. You know...because Intel.
  3. I wouldn't immediately discount the Northland area. If convenience to work, lower housing costs, and broad access to city services are desired, Northland could be a good fit for families. Considering the international diasporas in the area, if Intel is to attract local, domestic, and potentially international talent, being close to these areas could also be desirable.
  4. This has already been happening in Upper Arlington for years, particularly North of Lane Ave. and South of Fishinger Rd. Asbury Rd. is unrecognizable to what it was 10 years ago. The most tragic example was 2590 Onandaga Dr., which for decades had a gorgeous early 20th century home on it that was destroyed for someone's Mc. Mansion.
  5. I am extatic that this proposal is coming to fruition without any major changes, particularly a height reduction. Can't wait to see it rise in the Brewery District and I hope this is the start of a trend of building taller on South High St.

Did you try to check-in and get your boarding pass via Air Canada? Since it's AC that's actually flying you, whatever boarding pass/documentation you have from LH might be useless. Check the first 3 digits of your ticket stock, if it's issued by Air Canada "014" then boarding passes will need to be issued by AC.
  7. Nice to see how the urban development of Bridge Park seems to be having an effect on development beyond its boundaries. It would be cool to see more urban land uses basically culminating in an extension of Bridge Park all the way to Sawmill Rd.
  8. They're still touring, how cool would it be to invite them to play an intimate little show at baby Polaris Amphitheater.
  9. This is such a shame. It's such a prominent intersection deserving of a better building than a run-of-the-mill 6-story block. Really disappointed in the University Impact District Review Board and how this project proposal has played out thus far.
  10. I thought the exact same thing. I had to stare at the picture for a few seconds to get my bearings. But wow, what a great depiction of how far Franklinton and the rest of the central city have come. The same view from 15 years ago would be completely unrecognizable.
  11. 15+ feet? Mirroring the Victorian Village CVS/Grocer outparcel plan? 😉
  12. In addition, I really hope the speculative office space in this building and others in the CBD are being brought in front of all the new companies looking to build in and around the Intel site. AmplifyBio, a Battelle spinoff, announced this week they're building a research center in New Albany and also looking for a HQ site for 32 C-suite level employees. This building and others downtown that have been recently refurbished would make excellent executive office spaces that are far more conducive to conducting business than the greenfield sites.
  13. I love the trend lately of putting the building names on top in lights. Gives it a retro, "big city" vibe. Really excited that it'll start construction the year despite construction costs only continuing to escalate. Kudos to Rockbridge and Edwards.
  14. I never saw these. But if I did I'd say they have a weird Fisher College of Business vibe to them. Don't get me wrong, super stoked that development of those lots appears imminent, just not the biggest fan of the aesthetics.
  15. Likewise. I should've been more specific that the parking up against the trees would be for the commercial tenant while the Clintonville side lot would be for residents. In a perfect world, neither would exist, lol.
  16. No. Way. This is just a travesty. Not only is the height completely knocked down, but so are the original buildings on High St. that were to be preserved in this development. The rendering is also horribly ugly with one, giant, Soviet-esque building block with weird gray squares in a feeble attempt to break up the monotony. This is now the reigning poster child of how area commission can completely f*ck up a decent proposal. I for one am not happy.
  17. I wonder if the surface lots would be for the potential commercial tenant. Agreed that a first floor garage would be more practical and more aesthetic, but given Clintonville's penchant for low density, car-oriented development, my expectations are not high.
  18. While perusing information about the GCCC, I stumbled across this article: https://archinect.com/news/article/150113766/nearly-three-decades-old-eisenman-s-still-laser-less-greater-columbus-convention-center-revisited Did anyone know that, apparently, the convention center area was supposed to have lasers pointed at different angles to accentuate the building?! 😱
  19. Kinda torn on this. Agreed that pursuing a team can at the very least elevate the city's presence in major league sports and still leave the city in mind as a potential contender in the future. That's of course assuming that Columbus wouldn't land a team, which in the present environment, would be the most likely outcome. But at the same time is it worth all the time and effort to try and persuade an NBA team to set up shop in Columbus when there are other, more viable endeavors out there (NCAA, MAC, etc.). I will say though, it is fun to hypothesize how it would work and what other cities could be potential contenders. Given the current conversation, I'd imagine Seattle would get a team first. Though honestly I'd love to see Louisville snag a pro basketball team.
  20. Low-key love this idea. I always thought it was a shame the two were never connected, though I completely understand that it would completely disrupt an entire neighborhood in a way that would be extremely hard to mitigate. The possibility of a pedestrian, bike and possibly bus middle ground could be that potential mitigation. But looking at Google Map images of W. Rathbone Rd., it would definitely need some upgrades to make that a reality. The COTA Delawanda Park & Ride is right on the corner of High and Rathbone, too. A connector to Bethel would do wonders for transit connectivity.
  21. Downtown strategic plan: Many want more transit, fewer surface parking lots, among other improvements By Bonnie Meibers – Staff reporter , Columbus Business First Apr 29, 2022 Columbus residents have been dreaming out loud about what they want the downtown of the future to look like. Those dreams include more alternative transportation, activated storefronts and a place that's affordable for everyone. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/04/29/downtown-strategic-plan-meeting.html
  22. Here's the take on Library Park Phase IV from Columbus Business First: Pizzuti Cos. plans new phase of development near downtown's Topiary Park By Bonnie Meibers – Staff reporter , Columbus Business First Pizzuti Cos. wants to expand its Library Park development downtown. The latest phase of Library Park would include mixed-use building located on 39 to 53 S. 9th Street., according to plans submitted to the Downtown Commission. This would be the fourth phase of Library Park. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/04/20/new-library-park-phase.html Some point from the above renderings and the article: I'm assuming the blue used in the renderings is just for massing - i.e. they haven't decided on materials yet? Does Pizzuti not own the parking lot adjacent to this site? Wouldn't it be better to acquire that land and construct a building mirroring Phase III that takes up the whole block. From the article: Before construction starts on the new building, however, Pizzuti would replace the building with a temporary parking lot for up to two years. Pizzuti is seeking approval of the demolition and proposed temporary parking and conceptual review of the plans for the proposed building at the Downtown Commission's April 26 meeting. While Pizzuti is being up front with plans and renderings, this does scare me. A lot can happen in 2 years and the last thing I'd want to see is for yet another structure torn down due to a promise of a rebuild.
  23. Oh wow, I like this viewpoint looking up north on Neil. Too bad the Giant Eagle redevelopment won't continue the wall of multi-level buildings up Neil...😥
  24. Some news from the COTA front: The Cpass program will expand to the general public via a pilot program to offer the pass to those living, working, or visiting the Short North. AirConnect will return this month and will operate only for large convention traffic, most notably the American Public Transit Association Mobility Conference at the end of the month. Cbus isn't slated to come back due to continued funding and staffing issues. COTA might extend other fixed routes that overlap the Cbus route to midnight in the fall. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2022/04/12/cota-offering-free-rides-short-north-residents-workers-visitors/7272837001/
