Upper Arlington: Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFinally! I truly thought they would've held on longer, but glad they took Crawford's offer. They definitely made quite a pretty penny, regardless! I'm very interested to see how Crawford develops this last parcel. Omg, lol! Enough with the Sheetz! 😩🤣

Columbus Rickenbacker International Airport
There are. Korean Air has multiple weekly scheduled flights to/from Rickenbacker to Incheon (Seoul) and Cathay Cargo and Cargolux have weekly scheduled flights from Hong Kong via Anchorage. Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, also have weekly scheduled cargo flights through their respective hubs to LCK. Charter flights are also plentiful and are operated primarily by HiFly, Kalitta, National, and others.

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
More from the Dispatch, whose former printing facility will indeed be the home of this new plant: Hyperion fuel-cell company to open largest Columbus factory in a decade Jim Weiker The Columbus Dispatch A California company plans to move its headquarters back to Columbus in an operation that will employ nearly 700 workers developing hydrogen fuel cells. Hyperion Cos., now based in Orange, California, plans to relocate next year to the former Dispatch printing plant, 5300 Crosswinds Dr., which was closed in March 2020 when printing moved to Indianapolis. The 65-acre Far West Side plant will be the largest new factory in Columbus in a decade. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/02/01/hyperion-add-700-jobs-far-west-side-hydrogen-fuel-cell-facility/9296467002/ It looks like this will actually be a return to home for the company, which was founded locally be an OSU graduate. Very interesting why they specifically chose to reactivate this facility - apparently the layout lends itself well to that used to coat fuel cell membranes.

CMHOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOk, enough with the Sheetz, please! Jeez... Berwick bar Leipzig Haus to close after 38 years Taijuan Moorman The Columbus Dispatch Neighborhood bar Leipzig Haus has announced it will close its doors this week. In a social media post by a co-owner of the Berwick dive bar, COVID-related issues were noted to have an effect on the business, but uncertainty surrounding the future development of a possible Sheetz gas station and convenience store has caused even more concern. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/02/01/leipzig-haus-east-livingston-close-its-doors-after-38-years/9297924002/

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Wow, yet another potentially transformative project for Central Ohio! The official announcement will be held in the former Dispatch printing facility, which I guess will be repurposed for this company. Columbus Business First just released an article about the decision: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/02/01/hydrogen-car-company-hyperion-brining-700-jobs-to.html It sounds like the company has 3 divisions - energy, automotive, and aerospace. It isn't clear if one of those will HQ here, or if it'll be the whole company. Though their prototype vehicle is expected to make an appearance at the announcement. The article also makes note not to get hopes up too high. Other futuristic companies like Coda Automotive and Venturi announced grand plans for expansion in Central Ohio, only for them to never come to fruition. Hopefully, like Intel, this one is different and does produce the economic activity anticipated.

Columbus: Random Development and News
CMHOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFun idea! My top 3 proposals for 2022 would be: 1. Capitol Square parking lots in between S. 3rd and 4th St. There was a lot of talk about a multi-use structure being built there back in 2019. Hoping for a potential project to go back on the front burner to fill in this crater in the middle of downtown. I would like to see a 25+ story tower take the lot on the corner of 3rd and State, while a low-rise structure could take the lots in between 3rd and 4th next to the former Dispatch building and the YWCA, respectively. 2. Greyhound Bus Station Redevelopment. It was with much excitement that COTA took over the crumbling and sketchy Greyhound bus station downtown with the intent of redeveloping it as a multi-use building(s) in the city block. Maybe this year will bring some ideas on what to expect for the parcel. Ideally, the two 70's-era low-rise buildings would be demolished to make use of the whole city block. In it's place I envision something akin to Boston's South Station with a new bus station for Greyhound, FlixBus, GoBus and any other long-distance bus companies, a terminal area for COTA, shops and restaurants, and a 20+ story mixed-use tower. 3. Franklin County Government Center Expansion. A new downtown courthouse is expected to be built on the current side of Dorrian Commons. Hoping to see some renderings of the project this year. I'd like to see something around 12 stories for this project, but given the size of the area being built on, doubting we'll see much in the way of height from this building.

- Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
The link worked for me, thanks for sharing. Really some awesome views from that hardhat tour. Can't wait for the top floor restaurant and bar to be complete to partake of those views myself!- Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe name "Value City Arena" still makes me cringe.- Columbus: Historic Photos
It looks like this was taken from atop the LeVeque Tower, right? Pretty amazing photo taken right before a truly pivotal point in Columbus' development. It's a shame to have lots a lot of the buildings and density depicted (I had no idea of the Fairmont Creamery building that straddles Long and Spring - I want it back! 😭). But it's also good to see that while downtown was decimated, VV and IV to the north and German Village to the south remain largely intact. And the Scioto Peninsula has never looked better than it does now, in my opinion.- Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News

CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell said! And for once it seems like that's the Downtown Commission's stance on this as well. From the article, it seems like this particular owner/developer isn't too keen on putting anything other than the bare minimum in its place. Hopefully this rejection spurs them to come back with a better, more concrete plan on how quickly a replacement that is more conducive to its environment can be put up.- Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe quality of the rendering overall isn't that great. Maybe they'll have better concept drawings today for the commission meeting. I do like the use of blue, though. Hopefully that does stay.- Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Need more of that across the river, too!- Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Bring it on! Hopefully the continued momentum brings the Mondrian proposal and River & Rick phase II back into the foreground.- Columbus: Easton Developments and News
It very well could. At only about a 20 minute drive to the area of the new plant, I could see Easton becoming an even more desirable location for upscale, faux-urban living. A 12+ residential building or two would work well there.- Dublin: Bridge Park / Bridge Street District Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^Yeah, that building is relatively new. It is enormous and the location is not the greatest as far as ease of accessibility. It would probably fare better as a catering/party/reception hall if it sees another use again. I do like the idea of putting a residential tower there, but as mentioned, it wouldn't be the most walkable unless a bridge or tunnel were constructed to connect it to Bridge Park.- Columbus: Random Development and News
CMHOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI wouldn't be too concerned, given the continued slump in business travel being experienced worldwide. I do think, eventually, there will be need for another hotel brand to complement the existing supply. I would like to see something along the lines of a Conrad, W, or Ritz-Carlton built somewhere downtown. It sounds like the one being built in NMT will be an independent hotel, but it could still be affiliated with a brand (e.g. Hotel LeVeque being part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott). The one being built on the Peninsula will probably be something more mid-grade like a Hilton Garden Inn or a Residence Inn, but it would be cool to get something like Moxy or Graduate that were recently built in the Short North.- Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom the article: “It was 100% driven by the commission,” Higgins said, when asked about the project’s reduction in size. “They made it very clear that they would not support a five-story building despite it being on the dense High Street corridor, on the city’s busiest transit corridor, very bikeable, etc.” “We had a traffic and parking study done, as even at the reduced size, we are short residential and commercial parking spaces,” he added. “The study said that there is ample on-street parking in the vicinity of the building to compensate for our variance request.” While not unexpected, it's still incredibly frustrating to see just how much blind pushback is thrown at any respectable attempt to add to the urban fabric in the Clintonville area. High St., as well as Indianola, should be lined with buildings such as these and other that have been proposed for the area. I truly hope this iteration gets approved without any further delay or demands for alteration of size.- Columbus: Olentangy River Road Developments
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWow, both Paris Baguette and Tous les Jours in Columbus!? Never thought I'd see the day. That The City development is a huge improvement over the strip mall that was there and seems to be keeping a somewhat interesting store lineup in the tenant mix.- Dublin: Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSounds like a good way to activate this area of Dublin. It is kind of a sea of 90's office park sprawl; it could definitely use a greater mix of uses and some more density.- New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
Exciting stuff. Hopefully the New Albany International Business Park and the Ohio State Innovation District can do what the Research Triangle has done for Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill as far as elevating the metropolitan area on a truly national and global scale. RDU bats for above its weight in many aspects due to these institutions. As mentioned, Greater Columbus was already on its way there, but these 2 developments might get the region to that level. Really looking forward to watching this project grow and seeing the spinoff development that occurs.- Delaware County: Evans Farm
I wonder for how long this will be the case, especially with that big of a residential influx coming into an already rapidly developing area. 23 is already a log jam during rush hour and one accident can muck up that roadway in a heartbeat. Old State Rd. will likely no longer be a relief to 23 either. There are plans to better connect the area between Polaris and Delaware to I-71, but available land to do so is getting harder to come by. Funny enough, freight rails that would be perfect for a commuter rail from Columbus to Delaware go right along side this development...- Delaware / Ohio Wesleyan University: Developments and News
While there's no large category aircraft serving it, I'm kinda surprised a 90 ft. tower was approved so close to the runway at Delaware County Airport.- Towers of Ohio's Midsize (and smaller) Cities
