New Albany: Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNoNA? I guess there aren't that many Italians in New Albany, but this is the first thing that came to my mind:

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm totally wondering the same thing! Agreed. Seems almost odd to try and sell that concept now for the SN. I don't know why I saw this as the Vimeo logo: I haven't had my coffee this morning.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Freudian slip (hoping for tall developments, also!)?

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
To be fair, they did give us the North Bank and Parks Edge condos, which are 20 and 12 floors, respectively. But I see what you mean, given more recent construction. I would think a 12-story structure - half parking garage, half hotel - could work well on that plot. Something akin to the Drury Inn, just not so hideous.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionGreat photo! I love the juxtaposition of the field of corn in the foreground with the expanding urban landscape in the background. I really can't thank you enough for these photo updates @NorthShore647. It's great seeing all the changes going on in Columbus through your lens.

...except all facets of the media including television, print and online. That's what gets heard and seen far beyond the local lexicon. But I digress...

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
That's where my mind went immediately after hearing the name as well. I understand that it's a great, up-and-coming, local company. But the name likely matches their business. It doesn't really match a sports stadium. But, as mentioned, it's a dollars game. Good on them for getting their name out in such a dynamic and public way. I don't think it will grow on me, though. I still can't stand the name Value City Arena...🤮

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Interesting news. I'm somewhat surprised that SafeAuto sold for such a relatively small figure - I thought they were much bigger. At least for now, it looks like local employees and real estate are safe. I really think the city should go after attracting the headquarters of National General, which is currently HQ-ed in Winston-Salem. Though apparently Allstate bought National General last year for $4 billion, so that would be quite the feat to get them to move here. Unfortunately, it'll probably be the other way around where some functions move to North Carolina eventually.

Columbus: Historic Photos
Agree wholeheartedly. I've grown to appreciate the building in its brutalist grandeur, but would far prefer a more accessible and central location and a more open and modern building to showcase the history of Ohio. The current building works well as a repository, but to really display collection pieces, it should be in a different kind of building. As far as location, I'd love to see an extension of the Historical Society built on the last open parcel of the peninsula along the waterfront. It would be great to combine it with a city museum as well. I think it would become more of an attraction there rather than tucked into the Discovery District - not that I would be opposed to it being located there if the opportunity presented itself.

TWA Hotel | JFK Airport
I work right next to the TWA Hotel! The place really is fascinating. As an aviation AND architecture buff, it's like being a kid in a candy store. There are so many nooks and crannies filled with aviation history and period design that one can spend the whole day wandering the facility. The rooftop on the hotel wing closest to Terminal 4 has some amazing tarmac views. And it's hard to beat sitting in and around the Connie on display in between the hotel portion and the Saarinen terminal. All in all, I would highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area with proximity to the JFK, especially if you happen to be making a long connection.

Columbus Crew Discussion
Relieved and glad that management has come to their senses and listened to the fan base. I'm still bummed the crest will likely be a modified version of the current monstrosity, but that can be changed also with a bit more time. For now, I'm glad the focus can shift on supporting an awesome team and prepping for the opening of the new stadium.

Columbus Crew Discussion
Complete and utter disaster. Supposedly, the crest is the Flag of Ohio, but the mangled "C" and the fact that it's shown hung horizontally makes that fact unrecognizable. What a way to completely alienate what has become one of the most ardent fan bases in the MLS. I'm glad Nordecke supporters boycotted Saturday's game and that their absence was noticeable. Everything has been culminating to the opening of the new Crew stadium and that momentum has been completely derailed now. Crew management needs to do an about-face ASAP, or face some very long-lasting damage.

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
^Totally expected, but still sad. Downtown is bleeding leased real estate and a big name like Chase leaving only exacerbates the problem. I was a kid but I still remember the giant photo of the building taking up the entire front page of the Dispatch announcing BankOne's merger with First Chicago NBD and thinking "this isn't good." I still to this day wonder what would have been had BankOne built a new complex downtown rather than the monstrosity in Polaris. I wonder why the made such a poor decision in the first place. Anyway, the future of downtown real estate for now likely lies in the rapidly-growing local tech firms like Root, Olive, and others. Hopefully downtown can continue to serve as an incubator for new talent which continues to appreciate having offices in an urban environment.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Thanks for asking this question; I too have been curious to know if this is the final iteration of the roof. I too hope not, and that the stadium is finished according to the renderings. Or might a name/advertising be going on the roof soon, hence the lack of finish?

Columbus: Population Trends
Agreed. There are still hundreds of unused or underutilized lots spread throughout the city limits. Downtown itself, despite the many buildings that have sprung up over the past decade or so, remains full of empty lots that are ripe for residential development. Suburban Columbus has even seen some of this conversion. Taylor House was built on top of an old K-Mart and its parking lot, for example:

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I wonder how much the project hangs on that last bullet point. I feel like the 3 buildings being preserved aren't really that "high profile" or significant enough to warrant the credit, especially when I'm sure there are larger more valuable historic structures applying for the same credit. I think what this proposal has going for it is that it would allow the developer to produce a building that is high profile and that would be beneficial for the entire neighborhood. But I don't know how much that factors in to the decision-making for the distribution of these credits.

Columbus: Milo-Grogan Developments and News
Love this healthy clip of development being seen in Milo-Grogan. I've always thought it was such a spunky, little neighborhood that always got overlooked. Glad it's having its time in the sun now.

Whoa. The mirroring of the pitch with the opening of the roof is just...wow. I just keeping loving all the nuances of this stadium.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I really love both of these proposals. I can't believe the Mondrian actually increased in height; definitely a welcomed surprised. Hoping for swift approvals on both to keep the momentum going in East Franklinton.

Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionUnfortunately, it appears that this project is not happening: Clintonville area mixed-use development abandoned, land put back on the market By Tristan Navera – Staff reporter, Columbus Business First A plan to redevelop the old Patrick J's site in the Clintonville area is dead. Borror bought the 1.2-acre property at 2725 N. High Street in 2016, then demolished the bar and a White Castle restaurant on site and planned to build a mixed-use development. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2021/04/13/clintonville-development-cancelled-put-up-for-sale.html Such a shame. As was mentioned previously, it was a good-looking proposal and really would have added a lot to this stretch of High St. One can only hope another developer comes by with the means to construct a similar project.

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe Historic Resources Commission better not push for a smaller (re: shorter) building on that site! As mentioned, the district already contains multi-story structures. The building proposed for the site will certainly only add to the overall look and feel of the area in a positive way. Likewise thanks for the photos of the 530 E. Rich St. project! I too had no idea this was moving already.
