Columbus Construction / Weather Cams
As someone residing outside the Midwest and not able to get back to Columbus that easily at the present time, recent construction cameras (along with the fantastic photo updates from users of these forums), have been wonderful windows to what's new and happening in Columbus urban development. I was hoping this thread could serve as a kind of repository of all the cameras presently up as well as update users on new ones. The cams I know of thus far include: Crew Stadium: https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/construction-cam Hilton 2.0 https://share.earthcam.net/tJ90CoLmq7TzrY396Yd88BCDEbvHVV555XqzmvcG2P8!/parking_garage_and_hotel/camera_1/live Multiple Ohio State Projects: https://buildingthefuture.osu.edu/ CMH CONRAC https://flycolumbus.com/about-us/development/new-rental-car-facility WBNS/Weatherbug Camera: https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-camera/?cam=WBNSS WCMH Tower Cam: https://www.nbc4i.com/weather/webcams/ Anyone care to add any others?

Looks just like the renders; I love it! Hoping for another project to develop the triangular piece of land in between the stadium and the Buggyworks soon.

Wow, I didn't realize the South facade of the complex is so gorgeous. Definitely not a lot of large old buildings like that left in the downtown area. So happy about this renovation; can't wait to see the finished product.

Good on LCK in getting into vaccine distribution logistics. The cold storage unit should prove useful beyond covid, as there are quite a few specialty shipments that require such handling: $1.5M cold-storage facility, perfect for vaccines and medication, is being built at Rickenbacker International Airport By Hayleigh Colombo – Staff reporter, Columbus Business First Feb 24, 2021, 1:56pm EST A new $1.5 million air cargo pharmaceutical handling facility will be built at Rickenbacker International Airport. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2021/02/24/cold-storage-facility-rickenbacker-vaccines.html

CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAh, thank you for the correction - my colorblindness strikes again! I was wondering how they were going to make the building look "warmer" per a quote from Edwards from the Business First article.

Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
Very interesting! I honestly wouldn't have expected a proposal like this on S. High St., but I'm certainly glad to see it! Could we see the Brewery District turn into somewhat of a Short South? Grange has their multi-story campus there already, and 500 S. Front St. has an imposing presence in the area as well. The perceived "problem" with this proposal is that it's on the "wrong" side of High St., abutting the historic structures of German Village. I'm sure the uproar will be quite audible once the general populace of GV find out. Hopefully since it sits within the jurisdiction of the Brewery District Commission, it will allow the proposal to proceed as planned. I really like the overall look and height, even if it is set back from High St. I'd much rather them keep the existing structure and build on the back as planned than see it torn down. Keeping my fingers crossed.

CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSorry to throw off the conversation regarding Broad St. through downtown. Agreed that a full revamp is needed of the street. The people at Columbus Navigator put up a really well thought out article on the history of Broad St. and the need to do something about its width: https://www.columbusnavigator.com/broad-street-road-diet/ I'm not sure what it will take to get a re-do of Broad St. on the front burner. It's so sorely needed and could potentially integrate well with the revamp of the PNC building entrance off Broad St. and the proposed ParkWalk.

CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionJust throwing my two cents in on the discussion regarding the recently approved Edwards development. The universal panning of the design of this building is certainly justified. From the mismatched form to the odd color scheme, it really seems like it was thrown together without much thought being given to design. It truly does look like they got their inspiration from the neighboring parking garage, as mentioned above. The weird curve on the roof just throws everything off. And if their mind was set on a black facade, a look akin to what's being proposed in Confluence Village could've been more palpable: That being said, I am a big fan of the height and the adjoining Highline-inspired Park Walk. If this building (currently dubbed as the Gilbert) adds more vibrancy to the area and inspires further development, I can try and stomach the horrendous design. I wouldn't mind seeing another, better designed, 10+ story proposal called the "Sullivan" close by... Also, is the 8-story Vera on the other side of Broad St. still happening? Last update I see is that it was approved.

CMHOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhy in the world do they want to put apartments at the threshold of Runway 28R? Not that CMH is incredibly busy, but with the commercial air traffic plus the NetJets flights that primarily use that runway, that's a decent amount of activity that will be buzzing over those roofs.

CMHOhio replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAgreed. I actually really like this latest version specifically because of the way it integrates the existing buildings. Hopefully it gets the green light - this poor proposal has definitely been through the ringer.

CMHOhio replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhile I'm glad a new development is in the works and yet another sea of parking is on the way out, I'm sad this little gem of a building can't be part of the new structure or at least have the new building built around it, similar to the Matan.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
It's always been called KCVG. CVG is the IATA code for the airport. KCVG is the ICAO code. The former is used by airlines and, usually, by the general public. The later is used in most aeronautical spheres. Considering the article came from a GA (General Aviation) publication, that's likely why the ICAO code was used.

Columbus LinkUS BRT
I love that there appears to be an actual, realistic plan to drastically improve mass transit in Columbus. I like that it's comprehensive, takes a corridor that is ripe for mass transit, and proposes a solution that is a fully built-out BRT (not the current CMAX). I truly hope this, along with the East-West Broad St. proposal and upgrading of the current CMAX to this standard happen and happen soon. This could really change the face and perception of mass transit in Columbus and Central Ohio. Add the possibility of Amtrak service along the 3-C Corridor, and we could see a transportation revolution in Central Ohio.

Columbus LinkUS BRT
This is amazing. This looks like a true, cohesive, grounded plan to bring public transit in Columbus up to a decent standard. I agree that, as much as I would love to see rail-based transit in Columbus, a true, functional BRT system could be the catalyst needed for more of the population to take public transit seriously from which we can build from there. COTA and MORPC are also moving forward with a $6.75 mil transit center in the Rickenbacker area: https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2021/01/27/cota-plans-new-transit-center-near-rickenbacker/4257878001/ This is very encouraging. I've always found COTA's relative success in the area interesting. It's great to see COTA and MORPC doubling-down on making sure transit continues to be a dominant part of the development in the area.
