  1. ^I'm particularly excited about the Innovation District. The area is already a bit of an incubator with EWI and the State of Ohio Computer Center on the northwest quadrant of Lane Ave. and North Star. I'm particularly interested in the new, Nationwide Children's gene therapy lab slated to go there. Hopefully this results in the continued push for high-density development in Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights, and along 315.
  2. Really happy to see this project moving forward in its current proposed state. It will really complete the intersection of Oak & 18th, which is, in my opinion, the nucleus of OTE. I really like the organic way the neighborhood has been improving, but these larger scale developments are definitely welcome. Yeah, that seems really short-sighted given the momentum and prominence of that intersection. But as mentioned, still glad to see this development approved.
  3. For me, this is incredibly sad news. I will certainly miss their presence on the local airwaves: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3627598413957212&id=327104050673348&sfnsn=mo
  4. I also echo the sentiment that, while more height is always appreciated, this structure does fit in nicely in that location. Regarding the large green space, who owns it? NRI? FBI? Either way, hopefully with Crew Stadium coming together it becomes an even more desirable place to put a multi-story building.
  5. I wish there was a way that Clintonvillians could understand this. It's extremely frustrating and ends up bringing down the entire corridor. It's such a sad state of affairs. That area could be yet another jewel along High St., but the desire to kill any vibrancy in the name of potential disruption to daily Clintonvillian life is just so completely asinine.
  6. It's true that this development is quite suburban and car-centric. But having lived there and seeing the development along Cleveland Ave. to the north, just south of Polaris Pkwy, I guess this proposal met my (low) expectations. That being said, Westerville does have a charming downtown and university right across Alum Creek - it would be great to see THAT type of development make its way across. Hopefully, as mentioned above, the fact that some on the Westerville board want more will lead to the latter type of development. Either way, I am anxious to see this move forward.
  7. Sounds like a great collaboration: Why BrewDog is teaming up with a German Village deli By Dan Eaton – Staff reporter, Columbus Business First When its Short North bar opened, BrewDog thought its menu of pizzas and appetizers would stand out. It didn’t. “We had to stop lying to ourselves,” BrewDog Head of Retail Jon Quick said. “We’re elbow-to-elbow with a lot of great establishments here. We’re just not going to beat Paulie Gee’s for quality and Mikey’s Late Night Slice always has lines.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/10/09/how-and-why-brewdog-and-a-german-village-deli-te.html & https://www.columbusunderground.com/brown-bag-deli-opening-in-short-north-in-partnership-with-brewdog-sp1
  8. Big news in the local craft beer industry as Jackie-O's commits to taking the now former Elevator Brewing space on N. 4th St.: https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2020/10/07/jackie-os-brewery-moves-into-elevator-brewing-space-columbus/5907424002/ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/10/07/jackie-os-is-coming-to-columbus-heres-how.html https://www.columbusunderground.com/athens-based-jackie-os-brewery-expanding-to-columbus-sp1 While I'm disappointed to see Elevator closing its door, the Dispatch article gives a lot of good backstory as to the circumstances facing the owner. It's true that Elevator was on the forefront of bringing local microbreweries into the spotlight. I always enjoyed their wares and considered them one of the finer establishments in the area. Though having Jackie-O's take the reigns is probably the best possible outcome of the situation. They have built a name for themselves up in Columbus and will certainly do well being more intertwined with the community. Likewise, I consider Jackie-O's beers to be on the upper echelon of local brews that I've tried. Can't wait to visit the space once the transition is complete. I do hope they can do some kind of homage to the former owners, either by keeping some of the brews alive or having an Elevator spin-off brand.
  9. Glad things are moving quickly on the redevelopment of the Mt. Carmel West site. I was worried once the campus was torn down it would largely sit empty. I am bummed they didn't keep the old hospital tower with the glass pyramid roof. There are so many cool hospital to residential conversions here in NYC that come with such great history and stories. It would've been great to see the building repurposed to residential, especially with housing still being a very hot commodity in the area.
  10. This seems to be a very well thought out proposal. Of course, I particularly like the integration of the CMAX station/public transit infrastructure. Hopefully there is a lot more impetus to get dirt moving here soon. The article states having the land sit empty for so long as been a drag on the university. Having lived across Cleveland Ave. from this proposed development, it would certainly be big improvement compared to the overgrown grass presently filling the area.
  11. Having grown up not all that far from West Campus, the amount of activity happening in the area is mind-blowing.
  12. Very cool. I like the idea of making Buckeye Lake a true local summer getaway with amenities that one would find in more coastal locales. Where exactly along the lake would this development be?
  13. ^Agreed! ? The new AC Hotel is looking really good! Definitely a great addition to the area.
  14. I hope the residential component is built soon. As much as I appreciate this development, that is a lot of ugly parking garage.
  15. A new plan has been formulated for the unoccupied land across Alum Creek to the southwest from Otterbein University: Otterbein University proposes 58-acre urban center in Westerville By Tristan Navera – Staff reporter, Columbus Business First Oct 5, 2020, 2:26pm EDT Updated 57 minutes ago Otterbein University has approached the city of Westerville with a new plan for 58 acres of farmland southwest of its campus, east of Cleveland Avenue at the intersection with Cooper Road. Dubbed "Uptown West," the development would include 240,000 square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of medical office, 25,000 square feet of retail space and 627 multifamily units. More below: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/10/05/58-acre-urban-center-proposed-in-westerville.html
  16. Totally agree. While the lower floor count is a disappointment, the design and scale of this proposal do look good. Hopefully the Downtown Commission feels the same come next Tuesday. Also, here's the take on the news from the Dispatch: https://www.dispatch.com/business/20200819/apartments-offices-retail-proposed-on-east-broad-street-downtown
  17. Looks good! I like the placement in the middle of the building rather than on the top. Also, why are windows of the West facade of the PNC building multi-colored?
  18. Great photo! I had to look at the photo several times in order to figure out from where it was taken. I remember when basically every building from the foreground to 200 Civic Center Dr was a parking lot. ?
  19. Looks like the biz journal caught wind of the plan for redevelopment. The article basically summarizes the overall development plan already posted. No renderings. Giant Eagle to close in Schumacher Place, major redevelopment moving ahead By Tristan Navera – Staff reporter, Columbus Business First The developer has been formulating a redevelopment plan there since it bought the building and its 2.5-acre site for $5.35 million in October 2017. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/08/06/giant-eagle-to-close-in-schumacher-place-redevelo.html
  20. The Nicholas 2.0? ? Hope this latest attempt to renovate and restore the properties, as well as build on the adjoining lot, are successful. It, along with the Harmony Tower proposal would really do wonders for the stretch of High St. from Broad & High to Nationwide. Looking forward to the renderings for the surface lot.
  21. I've loved this building for the longest time and, unfortunately, have gotten my hopes up for its restoration and reuse way too many times. The eternal optimist in me really hopes this latest redevelopment attempt is successful, but it's definitely a cautious optimism.
  22. Seriously, this is fantastic news. I only wish it was taller! Love the fact that the parcel of land literally sits across the road from the realm of the GVC. Hopefully the renderings come out soon.
