This image is featured quite prominently at the end of Nationwide's latest ad campaign: Pretty cool, as this commercial airs nationally. Living here in New York City, it's nice to see the company rep their hometown in such a way. That being said, I'm sure the vast majority of the population wouldn't know it's Columbus, or give it a second though. ?‍♂️
  2. ...and here it is: Mixed-use tower would complete Jeffrey Park development A planned tower to cap off Jeffrey Park would bring more height to the Short North. More below: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/03/11/mixed-use-tower-would-complete-jeffrey-park.html
  3. ^Hopefully it turns into a gold mine (for the Crew, the Arena District, and the city as a whole). ^^ That seems to be a high retaining wall being built around the stadium's periphery. Will it be partially sunken (e.g. Huntington Park)?
  4. While the office linking the two companies will be based in New Jersey, this is good news for growing Central Ohio's international business presence: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/02/26/nationwide-strikes-deal-to-go-international.html
  5. Agreed, fantastic work. I do like the separate unit terminal for Concourse B, the only hangup I could see is taxiway clearances with gates on both sides. Concourse C could potentially be razed and a unit terminal ran along the length of the current apron towards the end of the expanded Concourse D. I also like the idea of the people mover connecting multiple nodes landside along the length of the complex. The rendering almost reminds me of the current setup over at Lambert (STL):
  6. In other Central Ohio business news: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/02/20/verizon-hilliard-layoffs-to-impact-nearly500.html Ouch. I remember when the complex was built as a single Compuserve building, then later MCI, then MCI WorldCom. I wonder how much of the complex they'll keep after the downsize.
  7. Indeed. It appears Mr. Meslow has been with the company for quite some time and currently resides in New Albany. Wexner staying as Chairman Emeritus can also be taken as a good sign of their continuing commitment to the region.
  8. Victoria's Secret is being sold off to Sycamore Partners, a New York City-based private equity firm: https://www.dispatch.com/business/20200220/l-brands-to-sell-victoriarsquos-secret-to-private-equity-firm Overall, not unexpected and likely not the worst thing to happen given the circumstances. Both companies have already done business together with Wexner's first retail venture, The Limited. L Brands will maintain a minority ownership in the company (45%).
  9. The construction of a new terminal at CLE will likely be predicated on the fact that it will no longer be feasible to update and expand the existing structures that make up the current terminal. The headhouse and concourses are a hodgepodge of buildings that have been renovated and expanded over decades. The bones of some date back to the 1950s. Air travel and the infrastructure needed to support it have changed substantially since then. The dynamics of passengers flows at CLE have also shifted. With the facility catering to O&D passengers more than ever, a greater number of people are using the headhouse and security areas of the terminal. At some point, it will be more cost-effective to start from scratch with a new building rather than try and update and expand the current one. As mentioned by others, there’s nothing saying that a new terminal must be some kind of Taj Mahal. However, it should be an all-encompassing endeavor. Both the landside and airside should be taken into consideration as well as focus on sustainability as much as possible. It will no doubt be expensive, but good transport infrastructure generally is. And only in the past few years have we learned that if we let it deteriorate, it’s far more costly in terms of money to fix, operating expenses, and general perception in the long run.

Looking forward to Parks Edge III to fill that last lot along McFerson Commons.
  12. You win the internet for today! That is awesome.
  13. This makes sense as long as they extend hours on the #2 as a replacement. Glad the CMAX seems to be doing well enough that more frequent service is on the docket.
  14. Hopefully the news of Macy's closing their Cincinnati headquarters isn't a harbinger of things to come with L Brands and Victoria's Secret: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/02/04/macys-closing-cincinnati-headquarters.html
  15. Good news for Capitol Square. Along with Nancy's move, it should help activate Lynn Alley even more: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/02/05/gahannacreative-agency-moving-to-downtown-columbus.html
  16. Indeed, it now looks like a lot of damage control is being done to quell the outrage, as seen in this more tempered article from Business First: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/01/29/crew-rebranding-effort-will-not-include-a-change.html Pretty poor show by the Dispatch, not that they're much of a newspaper/news source anymore.
  17. https://www.dispatch.com/business/20200129/wexner-may-depart-as-l-brands-ceo-sell-victoriarsquos-secret This could send shock waves through the Columbus business community. It looks like Victoria's Secret will be sold off. Hopefully, whoever ends up purchasing the company keeps the headquarters in Columbus - similar to when Golden Gate Capital took a controlling stake in Express a few years ago. As Wexner departs his empire, it will be critical that whoever takes the reins as a vested interest in Central Ohio. They could easily take the company to more fashion-forward cities such as NYC and LA pretty easily.
  18. https://www.dispatch.com/sports/20200129/michael-arace--columbus-crew-considers-changing-name-colors-as-part-of-rebranding The name and color scheme are iconic, at least to me. It would be pretty tough to get used to a name/appearance change if its going to be drastic. If it's not broke, why fix it?
  19. Over on airliners.net it was pointed out that Air Canada will be swapping out their 4x daily 50-seat CR2 flights for 3x daily 76-seat E75s. A really great upgauge for CLE and speaks to the strength of the market, in my opinion. The new schedule is effective 04 May.
  20. Lol, if so, Southwest has really grown their presence at CVG and the Cincy skyline has gotten a lot taller! More than likely the article and photo was meant for the Chicago biz journal and the Cincinnati paper just amended the story slightly for its use.

This article from the Dispatch includes a great shot of downtown from the Rickenbacker airport control tower: https://www.dispatch.com/news/20200119/energy-water-benchmarking-proposal-open-for-comments
  22. This article is surprising, somewhat. The WN flight to OAK was a tough route to begin with: OAK is generally considered the less-preferred Bay Area airport, connections are limited, and Southwest probably had a tough time getting the yields necessary to make the O&D on the route work, especially once UA entered the market. Add the fleet constraints due to the MAX grounding and the route was ripe for the chopping block. I do think the route could work on a summer-seasonal basis once the fleet is back to full strength, however Southwest has shown no indication of the resuming the route. United's 2-month suspension of SFO shouldn't be anything to worry about. Airlines cut capacity quite a bit in January and February, and the route was a logical cut for the airline. It's worth noting that West Coast access still remains good with Alaska continuing to run SEA daily during the slower winter months. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the article paints a somewhat bleak picture unnecessarily. It's definitely an inconvenience for local businesses that need the service year-round, but if they continue to move the necessary passengers over existing hubs this season, it could cause the airlines to reconsider the seasonal suspensions in the winter of 2021.

Some photos from atop the Canopy Hotel and the National Vets Memorial, respectively, from this past weekend.
  24. More about the possibilities for the YMCA (think it can become its own topic?): https://www.dispatch.com/news/20191020/ymca-officials-confident-new-use-can-be-found-for-old-downtown-building
