  1. In a city plagued by so many proposals that have succumbed to height reductions, it's refreshing to see this one alive and growing! I too was disappointed to hear that several existing buildings would be demolished in the process. But after looking them over, the net return would be worth their sacrifice. I do hope that in the design review process the can find a way to integrate them, but not if it's detrimental to the project's feasibility, proposed height and timetable for construction (that latter of which I hope is soon!). I completely agree with @FudgeRounds about the human scale of the current streetscape, though. Hopefully that's taken into account if keeping the current structures ends up being completely off the table.
  2. Some photos from the Preston Center and construction of the elevated walk:
  3. A view of the site from Stories on High on top of the Hilton:
  4. I had no idea this development would be that tall. Looks really good. Hopefully those powerlines are eventually buried.
  5. Honestly, based on the photos, I was thinking the same thing. Still wish it would've been something taller/more architecturally significant and would have maintained S. 6th. St., but I'm kinda digging the way the building is blending into the existing streetscape.
  6. Does the surface lot include the Indian restaurant that sits on the corner of High and Spring? Or is the surface actually split between the two buildings? Regardless, a multistory structure there would be phenomenal.
  7. I don't recall ever having seen these renderings. Given the title of the document says "Visionary Concepts" I wonder how much of a reality exists of a building being put there.
  8. Steakhouses (and golf) seem to be the unwritten rule about conducting business outside of work. Probably because it can be expensed without much fuss. I feel like the Peninsula has a different vibe going for it than chain steakhouse. It'd be nice to have a high-end, national concept like Smith & Wollensky in the Peninsula development to add to the variety in the area, but this likely does fit better closer to the convention center. Plus it gives the Hyatt a marquee dining option to compete with the Hilton across the way.
  9. I had forgotten about that proposal. It is basically exactly what I was thinking though, so I guess the concept from when it was originally proposed was somewhere in the inner recesses of my brain. 😅 I wonder if the auction makes this proposal plausible now. The original concept was released almost 7 years ago, though. Maybe not a hotel, but residential with a similar architectural style (and some more height) would be a great addition to the neighborhood.
  10. Thinking it's this place: https://www.goodfellaspizzeria.com/ Looking at their current locations, they're located in trendy areas across Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis. Seems as though their schtick is a bar with a focus on bourbon and a hidden speakeasy at each location dubbed the Wiseguy Lounge.
  11. The auction website has a lot of neat aerials of the building and surrounding area: https://gryphonusa.bidwrangler.com/ui/auctions/121763/16014315 While I don't like to see older buildings demolished, the site would be perfect for another large-scale development similar to what's been built up and down High St. for the past decade or so. A 10-15 story structure that abuts and mirrors the architecture of the neighboring CML branch would look nice.
  12. Parkside on Pearl looks amazing, with equally amazing prices! 😱 Short North's Parkside on Pearl apartments prepare to open with rents up to $8,000 a month Jim Weiker Columbus Dispatch What does $8,000 a month get you in a new Italian Village apartment building? Nice views, for starters. Windows stretch floor to ceiling in the new Parkside on Pearl complex, on Hubbard Avenue a block east of North High Street. And the ceilings stretch 12 to 17 feet high in the building's 35 apartments. On the east side of the building, apartments overlook the greenery and mature trees of Italian Village Park. On the south, they overlook Downtown's skyline. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/real-estate/2024/06/06/parkside-on-pearl-apartments-to-open-in-italian-village-with-8k-rents/73823934007/ A tiny tidbit about the proposal on High & Hubbard from the article: "The company has also proposed a 15-story apartment building a block to the west, on Hubbard Avenue and North High Street. Puhl said that project is still moving forward, but the company's focus now is opening Parkside."
  13. MORPC says Ohio's odds of landing two passenger rail lines are good By Bonnie Meibers – Staff reporter , Columbus Business First May 31, 2024 Updated May 31, 2024 12:50pm EDT Columbus' odds of landing two passenger rail lines are looking good, according to William Murdock, executive director of the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. Murdock said the lines that would pass through Columbus are now in the federal process of evaluating passenger rail. "We're in the pipeline to make things a reality," he said. Two lines could go through Columbus – one would connect four Ohio cities and one would connect Ohio to other Midwest cities. Murdock said although they are in step one of a three-step process, passenger rail could be a reality by 2030. MORPC and the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, are the leads on the Midwest line, which would connect Chicago to Columbus to Pittsburgh. The Ohio Rail Development Commission is the project lead for the Cincinnati-Dayton-Columbus-Cleveland line. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/05/31/passenger-rail.html
  14. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it. That being said, I do encourage everyone on this forum to attend if able. I've known @ColDayMan and @richNcincy since the mid-2000s and both are great individuals who have been instrumental in maintaining this platform for all of us to enjoy over the past 20 years. I'm so sorry I won't be able to help in celebrating this weekend, but hope our paths meet again soon!
  15. The latter. Air cargo throughput is down, in some cases substantially, at many airports as COVID-related shipments stopped. Other factors have led to more shipments happening over land than by air. Kalitta's fleet of 747s (as well as other types) provides additional lift via chartered aircraft to companies all over the world. They've built a pretty solid business performing this role. Fun tidbit: SABENA, the former flag carrier of Belgium, used to fly 747s between CVG and BRU in the late 90s. The route was doubly-supported by P&G and a massive SN/DL/OH codeshare network available from CVG at the time: https://www.airliners.net/photo/Sabena/Boeing-747-329M/37517
  16. That first photo really helps grasp how large that parking lot was and, subsequently, how large of a footprint this building will have. Looking forward to watching this project continue to rise, especially as the façade is installed. Great photos, thanks for sharing.
  17. Herbet's Market and Charley's Place is the entertainment nexus of SoFra (South Franklinton).
  18. Looks like a rendering from the 50s with that sea of parking in front. I get that it's an existing ultra car-oriented development, but it's a shame they couldn't bring the new storefronts up to the entry roadway and hide the parking in the back.
  19. I love this development so much. It's going to be such a crowning achievement for the area and I really hope it shows that similar quality investments can be done. Hopefully we see more of this kind of building throughout the city.
  20. Good lord what an eyesore! I understand the height at the 315/71 interchange, but why is it so tall going into downtown? It's still going to go under High/3rd/4th right!?
  21. The Copenhagen Opera House is so beautiful and has such an amazing presence on the water. Great building from which to draw inspiration!
  22. Given the look and feel of the units and all the amenities in and around the building, it seems like for sale units would be logical. I'm not in the real estate trade by any stretch of the imagination, so just conjecture on my part.
  23. Agreed. Those thin floor to ceiling windows really transitioned well into residential usage. Stunning apartments at a stunning price. Hopefully since there's only 105 of them, they'll be able to sell at those price points.
