  1. Right? I love that they have the shadowed depictions of those two high rises, one facing the new concert hall, and the other along what appears to be Broad St. With the momentum in Franklinton, hopefully this is a good harbinger of things to come!
  2. Agreed. It's really a shame that the original 12-story plan for the second phase isn't in the works: Hopefully/maybe it'll be part of Phase III?
  3. Some other interesting tidbits from the article: In 2021, the symphony floated the idea of creating a 3-building venue anchored by the former Ohio National Bank building on High and Town St. that would've included a new parking garage. That plan was scuttled and that plot is supposed to be developed into this by Harsax Management, which we haven't heard anything about in a while: Funding has to be secured by June 2025, and will be evaluated by a third party every six months. If all goes according to plan, groundbreaking for the concert hall would occur three months after the funding deadline for an opening by June 2028.
  4. I really do love it. As mentioned, the design complements the National Vets Memorial across the peninsula. I like how the bend (boomerang) in the building's design pays homage to the bend in the river, forming the peninsula. The transparent halls and glass as well as the ripples in the ceiling also give it a "watery" vibe. I'm going to catch major flack for making the comparison, but it reminds me of the Sydney Opera House in its unconventional design, it's position on a waterfront (not nearly as gorgeous of one of course), and the interior halls. The article makes mention to specific milestones the symphony has to hit, so it sounds like all partied invested in this are dedicated to making sure it doesn't become another pipe dream. Here's hoping.
  5. "More concrete"?! Don't we have enough with AEP, Nationwide, etc.?! 😉
  6. Yes, I'm liking what I'm seeing. They're definitely taking proven elements of recent terminal design and applying it to this project. The 60% renderings are reminiscent of the structures at LGA, IND, EWR, MCI and others. I hope the final designs will incorporate more local flourishes and color.
  7. Anyone know what's up with this proposal? I don't think we've heard anything since June. They haven't applied for any government funding like TMUD, correct?
  8. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far!
  9. For the terminal itself, no. For enabling work that would require the relocation of aircraft movement areas like taxiways, yes. Though I think most of that was already done with the relocation of Runway 28L/10R.
  10. Here's my take on this major real estate development: 21 W. Broad St. The Wyandotte Building This building is the most obvious candidate for residential conversion, in my opinion. Its historical importance not withstanding, those bay windows would make gorgeous residences and its location is incredibly desirable, literally being in the heart of the city. 17 S. High St. Huntington National Bank Building I'm somewhat disappointed to see Huntington selling their historic headquarters. This building could also serve well as a residential conversion project, but I think it would make a handsome hotel. It would almost be a return to roots for the area as the Neil House and Deshler Hotel were destroyed to make way for the Huntington Center and One Columbus, respectively. That way the historic bank lobby could be renovated and still enjoyed by the general public as well. 37 W. Broad St. Huntington Plaza As with the other two, this building is also ripe for residential conversion, especially with those giant square windows. I would like to see it remain commercial/office space, but with a complete renovation and flexible floorplan space. With all three buildings, I wonder what options there would be for parking. While I wish public transit and walkability could stand on their own, I'm sure some kind of accommodations will need to be made for parking to increase the viability of these properties.
  11. Pretty major news from one of Columbus' largest companies: Huntington Bank selling 3 downtown Columbus buildings for redevelopment By Bonnie Meibers – Staff reporter , Columbus Business First Jan 25, 2024 Updated Jan 25, 2024 12:07pm EST Huntington National Bank today announced it will sell three downtown Columbus buildings to be redeveloped. The sale will include the Huntington Bank Building at 17 S. High St., the Wyandotte Building at 21 W. Broad St. and the Huntington Plaza building at 37 W. Broad St. The invite-only RFP will remain open until suitable investors are identified, according to a release sent by Huntington. “Each of these buildings holds a rich history in downtown Columbus, and we believe redevelopment is key to ensure downtown Columbus thrives for years to come," Huntington CEO Steve Steinour said in the release. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/01/25/huntington-bank-downtown-development-sales.html
  12. Such an impressive aerial photo. Amazing that whole area all the way up to 1st Ave was dead space. Impressive how the mixed use development on Lane Ave. on the Upper Arlington border is quite clearly visible towards the middle horizon of the photo.
  13. Who broke the news on the Gilbert? Their days are numbered, then!
  14. How cool! It's definitely not in any public area that I know of. I would certainly ask the CRAA if it's stored somewhere. That would be a great piece to display along with Brushstrokes in Flight.
  15. Pretty awesome that Easton still attracts some pretty-high end names despite changes in the retail industry in favor of on-line purchasing, the age of the development, and recent negative press. I love Breitling (one of these days I'll be able to afford their cheapest watch!) and I like Boss product offerings as well. Uniqlo would definitely be a huge win and I'm sure would be an instant success. Actually surprised their not at Easton already!
  16. Even the building's namesake does not approve.
  17. Given trends in Columbus, maybe they're afraid a car will go flying into the patio space? Looks a lot better, definitely a step in the right direction for that intersection. That's especially after so much suburbanization of the area. Would make a great place for Union 2.0!
  18. Slap the blue insulation panels back on it! Is it me, or does it look like it burned to a crisp. Nothing like seeing double parking garage!
  19. Man, I wish they would take that on as the name of this development! 🤣
  20. Add a spur up to Easton and a stop or two in between the airport and downtown and let's built it!
  21. Not a bad idea, not only for status updates but to support the business in the market during the construction period. Columbus people seem to avoid any minor parking/road inconvenience like the plague, resulting in a lot of hardship to the businesses trying to make it through.
  22. I hope not, but wouldn't be surprised.
