Cleveland - Picking an apartment building/location downtown
Welcome to Cleveland! I've lived downtown for about 2 years and have loved every minute of it. My fiance (who is also a teacher) was cool to the idea at first but now loves it too. I live in the Pointe at Gateway by East 9th/Prospect and really enjoy it, however, I don't think any 1 bedrooms are available. As far as the the warehouse district goes check out Bridgeview. It's on West 9th and St. Clair. Also, I've heard some bad things about National Terminal which is also on West 9th. One resident I spoke to called it "National Criminal" since they apparently had a big problem with cars getting broken into. Does your budget include parking? Parking will cost about $100-150 per month and you do need a car if you live downtown. Good luck with your search.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
I really hope some signage goes up on the building ASAP. I find it really frustrating when a developer announces a project but then waits months to put up a sign. I know here K&D just closed, but the Mann buildings on Euclid are a perfect example. Just something basic like "apartments coming soon" would really help shape perceptions about downtown and Euclid Corridor.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
According to Crains, Ernest & Young is headed to the East Bank. I'm not sure how I feel about this since it appears that the chances of Stark landing an anchor office tenant are dwindling.

The former Machu Picchu space on East 8th between Euclid and Prospect is being rennovated. Maybe Machu Picchu is reopening. Their decision to open at the peek of Euclid corridor construction made no sense. Now that construction on the south side of the street is basically done, the location could work.

Sports Illustrated fans rate Progressive Field best ballpark in baseball
That's cool about Progressive Field. I think just 3 pre-war stadiums are left: Fenway, Wrigley and Yankee Stadium.

Cleveland - Couple of Questions about the Warehouse District
Check out downtownapartments.com, 425 Lakeside is very nice. I've lived in the Pointe at Gateway for about 2.5 years and have really enjoyed it. I think a few different 2 bedroom floor plans are available but no 1 bedrooms. The only thing I don't like is that parking is across the street. Also, I wouldn’t recommend living below the 5th floor in the Pointe on the side facing Huron road because of noise from the bar patios. Also, check out http://www.prospectplaceapartments.com/ It's about 2 blocks east of the Pointe at Gateway.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I wonder if Baker Hostetler is a potential tenant for Jacobs. They're currently in the NCB Building. The talk of new office towers intially focused on them and at one point I recall hearing that they were interested in going into the Jacobs property with Eaton.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Crains: "A state-financed coalition aiming to turn Ohio into a hub for sensor technology aims to build its $11 million headquarters on the site of a former restaurant at Cleveland State University." That's what I thought too but apparently not. Maybe this new structure will only occupy part of the site and will allow for a narrow through street.

Does anybody have a crains subscription? There is an article about a proposed redevelopment of the old gyro place across from Cleveland-Marshall.

Living in Downtown Cleveland
Here is the listing on realtyone with a few pictures: http://realtyone.realliving.com/Property/Details.aspx?PropID=9373738 Also, here's the floor plan: http://www.pointeatgateway.com/id10.html They both have 2 bedrooms but the second bedroom is on the small side and in the model unit (which is fully furnished) it's set up as an office. I'm not sure what the appliance brands are but I know they were just upgraded about 6 months ago. As for closet space, I stopped by during the open house with my fiancee and she thought the closets were too small especially considering the price. The view is partially obstructed by the United Church of Christ building so you can see some of the Terminal Tower and 200 Public Sq. but not Key Tower. Also, the deck is a bit beat up since it was installed 11 years ago. During the open house last sunday, I overheard several people make comments like "I have to lug my groceries upstairs." The bedrooms are on the first floor but the kitchen and living room are on the roof. They are priced at 289K and 279K and I really think that they big problem is no attached parking. Other high end units like those in the Park Building have attached garages. I've never really been in another penthouse but I was in the 10th floor unit in the Sincere Building a few years ago and that was much nicer. It had a great view of Jacobs Field and felt more like an open loft space. Also, it had roof access. Knowing all that and seeing the pitcures, what do you think a good price would be?

Living in Downtown Cleveland
I checked out the Krause Building above Wonder Bar this Sunday. Cool building but the master bedroom has a brick wall about 2 feet from the window and for $425,000 I would want a decent view. The unit I saw was on the second floor. I really liked how each unit gets the entire floor, it gives a feeling of privacy. I don't think there is any other building downtown like that. Also, my building (pointe at gateway) continues to struggle to sell its penthouses. They've been for sale for 3 years and the developer has tried every incentive, free parking for a year, no condo fees for a year etc. Just out of curiousity, do you guys have any other ideas?

A coming soon sign was placed on the chain link fence next to the new bookstore. There will be 8 units priced from $235,000 and realty one is handling the sales. I don't think the number of units and price were previously announced.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^^ That's a really good point. I know several people who have moved from Cleveland's westside/inner ring suburbs to the exurbs in the last few years and the first reason they always mention for moving is safety. My cousin just moved from Newburgh Heights to Hinckley after her home was broken into twice in the last year. She loved her home and her neighbors but the crime from Slavic Village kept creeping in.

Moving from Boston to Cleveland June/July 2008
I live in the Pointe at Gateway which is by the corner of East 9th and Prospect. I've been there for about 2.5 and I feel it is very safe. During the evening I feel safe walking to CVS, East 4th etc. However, since The Q and Progressive Field are around the corner we do get more panhandlers than other parts of downtown. This causes some people to feel unsafe but the vast majority aren't aggressive and since you've already lived in an urban area I doubt you will notice it as much as someone who is moving from the suburbs. Additionally, the safety patrol downtown is very responsive to reports of aggressive panhandling. I really like the area and highly recommend it. Good luck with your search!

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I really like the idea of a downtown "mini-district." It seems like off-duty cops provide all the protection for downtown. It would be nice to see a patrol car cruising down prospect every once in a while. Also, it would be great to see cops on bikes around downtown. The safety patrol is OK but actual police officers would be better.
