  1. A new night club opened up next to the Charter One Global Enterprise Center on Bolivar. I don't know any details, I just heard an ad for it on the radio. I'll probably walk over there tonight to check it out.
  2. 1001 Euclid is listed for sale on Loopnet. Is that building still a part of the project?
  3. Scaravelli used to own the land recently acquired by Ferchill.
  4. JAX is right on target about CAC. They are in a serious financial crisis and will probably close sometime in 2007. The sale of the building fell through....again and the city didn't follow through with a promised renovation loan. It needs to raise 1.2 million just to keep its doors open and the club needs an addition 200k to finish its renovations. The club lost 600 members in the last 6 years, it currently has about 700 members. The club could be a great asset for downtown if it were properly managed, I always thought condos on floors 2-5 would work
  5. The Dollar Bank Building on Euclid Ave. is for sale, it's next to the Atrium Building and across from the Holiday Inn Express. The Lisiting is on http://www.crescorealestate.com/ I think Marous Bros. discussed a condo conversion for this building a few years back.
  6. Good news on the radio stations, I always find it annoying when a station claims to be Cleveland's rock station etc. but they are in Independence or some other suburb. In regards to "non-mall" uses, I actually went to a boxing match in the Galleria last spring. Definitely a unique experience.
  7. Work is being done on the upper floors of the old Ohio Bell Building on Bolivar next to Cooperstown. The first floor is currently parking, so maybe the upper floors will be parking too. I'm hoping for loft condos, I don't really see the demand for additional parking. The Peterson Nut site surface lots and 515 Euclid added plenty of parking to the area.
  8. Do you have any idea what kind of retailers? I'm hoping for a little more than bars and restaurants.
  9. Prospect Place was a print shop previously; it has been empty for something like 30 years. I don't think the entire Park Building was being actively marketed, so this conversion may not have much of an affect on the vacancy rate. The Crain’s article said something about shuttered upper floors and it was my impression that only space being marketed is included in the occupancy calculations. That's why buildings like 668 Euclid and the Ameritrust Tower don't inflate the vacancy rates.
  10. I would like to see the DCA establish a tip line where people could report the location of aggressive panhandlers. I often see them just take over a corner and harass anyone who comes near them. With the Ford Escape patrol car they have the ability to respond quickly. The CVS on Euclid/9th is a perfect example; panhandlers will just stand outside for hours and pounce on everyone who walks by.
  11. Didn't they just apply for brownfield cleanup funds for this building? Maybe the condo project is being scaled back to just 2 buildings.
  12. Would asbestos removal classify as brownfield redevelopment for the buildings on Euclid. I know its really a stretch but what else could it be?
  13. Some activity started in 1010 Euclid ave, next to the rotunda. A construction (or demolition) office was set up on the first floor.

In regards to Euclid between East 9th and East 12th, a sale is pending of the CAC building. Hopefully the new owners will clean up the exterior of the building and wash the windows. It's not nearly as bad as other Euclid ave. buildings, but it is far from perfect.
  15. Great news about the rennovations. Does anyone know what the construction in the Higbee building is for? I've heard a variety of things such as a visitors center, the proposed medical mart, office space etc.

I grew up in the western suburbs (Bay Village) and I would say that Lakewood would give you the most for your money. The city has solid schools and a lot of housing options and it's fairly close to your job. If you want a newer home, but not a Mcmansion, then check out Bay Village. Granted it's somewhat far from your job but it offers excellant schools and it lacks the cookie cutter developments that other suburbs are filled with. In regards to the suggestion about Kamms/Puritas, I coworker of mine recently moved out of the area because of crime and poorly maintained rental homes in the neighborhood. She was a lifelong resident and felt the area was simply going downhill. Also, retail abandonment is becoming a serious concern in that neighborhood since both the grocery store and drug store have closed recently.
  17. It's in Bridgeview. Go down St. Clair, turn right and you're in front of it.
  18. I was wrong about View, sorry. I actually sopke with their GM the other day and he said that they went through a real rough time but things are starting to pick up.
  19. The surrounding area does not have a whole lot of amenities within walking distance.
  20. A new pizza place is opening soon on West 6th where the liquor store was, the liquor store is now on West 10th. Also, minor exterior rennovations on the Higbee building have begun.
  21. It looks like the porn shop on West 9th will be gone soon. A retail store called "Style" will be moving in. The street was dark so I could be off on the name. Also, it looks like View nightclub on Prospect called it quits. The sign is down and there is a note on the door, I was driving by so I didnt get a chance to read it.
  22. I think the Public Square location would make more sense for them. Given the amount of litigation they do, proximity to the Justice Center and the Federal Courthouse should be a priority. Also a Public Square location would enable more workers to utilize RTA.
  23. I could be wrong about this but I think the Staler cannot convert to condos for many years because of the tax credits they used. I remembering reading that the Statler used a low-income tax credit which requires rentals for 15 or 20 years. Also, I think Reserve Square is partially going condo.
  24. Are apartments still planned for the space above the corner alley? I haven't heard anything about them since the intial announcement and the city project sign makes no mention of apartments. Also for East 4th to be a complete success, the 3 vacant buildings on the south side of prospect between east 4th and 2nd must be redeveloped. I feel it kind of kills the energy when people walk by dark, blighted buildings.
  25. I don't know if a night club is a real great fit for the area. The V Lounge closed (correct me if I'm wrong), and View is always dead.
