  1. Since the closings will be annouced Saturday I figured it should have its own thread (unless of course the mods disagree!) Members of old, ethnic parishes in Cleveland Catholic Diocese fear the worst Bishop will announce closings this weekend, as congregations lose membership Monday, March 09, 2009 Robert L. Smith Plain Dealer Reporter The 10:30 a.m. Polish Mass at St. Casimir Church a week ago Sunday had the feel of something precious in peril. The sun beamed through stained-glass windows to bathe a sanctuary as big and as beautiful as any church in Poznan, the Old-World city for which the neighborhood was once known. 2. Welcome to the forum! Check out Progressiveurban.com. Painter's Lofts and Payne Ave lofts might fit you're criteria
  3. I wasn't really sure where to put this but City Year and the charter school have both moved out of the Cleveland Athletic Club building. As far as I know the building is now empty. Didn't Eli Mann acquire this building for an apartment conversion? I thought this was on the back burner but maybe this shows that renovations will be happening soon.
  4. ^ DCA does hire off duty cops so I don't think that this situation is neccessarily beyond what they are supposed to do. I definetly agree with you about the allocation of police resources.
  5. ^^ I totally agree when it comes to Cimperman and the DCA touting the safety of downtown right now. It just sounds ridiculous at this time. For whatever reason I have a bad feeling about the police finding the shooters. I know nothing about law enforcement but this happened in an area with security cameras and witnesses, but 2 days later there hasn't been an arrest. I really hope I'm wrong. Also the DCA needs to step up late night patrols, especially in the theater district.
  6. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/02/two_men_shot_sunday_in_clevela.html 2 men shot in downtown Cleveland robbery were 'truly innocent' victims Posted by Plain Dealer staff February 23, 2009 11:06AM Categories: Crime, Real Time News View Larger Map CLEVELAND — Two people shot about 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of East 12th Street were likely the victims in a robbery, police said. "They were truly innocent people," said Lt. Thomas Stacho, police spokesman. "It was an apparent robbery." Jeremy Pechanec, 28, and Jory Abely, 26, had attended a party at Scorchers in downtown Cleveland, witnesses said. Both were shot after the bar closed. ...
  7. ^ Actually it's 3 now with Barley House opening on West 6th. I don't see why they can't coexist. It's not like they're right next door to each other.
  8. I found some pictures of Trifecta's Sports Lounge. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=428702678 This is the space on East 8th/Euclid. It was Machu Picchu previously. I doubt a bar can succeed in such a bad location but I hope I'm wrong.
  9. I was skeptical of this project, until I drove by the proposed site this afternoon. It's not the most appealing area at the moment and it's real shame because Urban Community's new building looks great. I understand that Ohio City residents already take on their fair share of low income housing but this is a pretty run down area in need of some investment.
  10. Interesting little article... http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20090216/FREE/902139950 Glazen Studios founder brews up new business By JOHN BOOTH 4:30 am, February 16, 2009 The first landlocked Erie Island Coffee Co. store is set to open this Thursday, Feb. 19, on East Fourth Street in downtown Cleveland, with two others in the works if all goes well. Alan Glazen, founder of Cleveland’s Glazen Creative Studios, co-founded the original Erie Island shop on Kelleys Island last year with Reuben Martin, Annalie Glazen and Scott Stevenson. The 40-seat East Fourth restaurant will employ about 10 people and offer a soup, salad and sandwich menu. Mr. Glazen said locations on West 25th Street in Cleveland and at University Circle are planned to open over the next 12 to 18 months.
  11. I checked out Nexuscleveland.com and it appears that the project isn't in 515. The video on the website shows the Hat Factory on West 6th as the location.
  12. ^ Welcome to the forum! About a year ago parts of the facade were removed to examine the condition of the original exterior. I don't remember which thread it was, but there are some pics which you can find with the search function. Back to 668 Euclid...
  13. ^ I think that is the entrance for the new apartments above Corner Alley and the management office above Pickwick.
  14. Something is going on in one of the 515 spaces. I saw an electrical contractor in there this afternoon. I checked out the Gateway Church website gatewaycleveland.com and it said on February 5th they will be holding a fundraiser for Nexus (coffee shop proposed for 515). This might actually happen. I kind of laughed at it when I first heard about it, but I'll be happy to see one less empty space on Euclid.

Welcome to the forum! HowardHanna.com lists condos for rent. Do you have any particular areas in mind?
  16. This sounds really cool, it will add some variety to the East 9th/ Huron area. I don't know why but I've never liked the Boneyard.

^^ I'm almost positive that cities can require safety forces to live within a certain distance. I remember hearing that one of the outer suburbs like Westlake or Avon had such a requirement. If I recall it was around 30 miles.

Good news! The corner of East 13th and Euclid isn't the most appealing place right now. However, I was kind of hoping for a street level presence. Euclid between 9th and 14th has so many street level vacancies. It would have been nice to fill one of the spaces even if it were office space.
  20. http://blog.cleveland.com/cribnotes/2009/01/downtown_cleveland_hotel_conve.html Downtown Cleveland hotel conversion complete Posted by Michelle Jarboe/Plain Dealer Reporter January 08, 2009 18:14PM The Hotel GroupA $15 million renovation to turn the Holiday Inn Select in downtown Cleveland into a DoubleTree included new workout facilities. The DoubleTree conversion officially took place Dec. 30. The New Year marked the official conversion of downtown Cleveland's Holiday Inn Select hotel into a DoubleTree. A $15 million facelift turned the aging hotel into the more upscale brand, with 180 revamped rooms, improved meeting space, workout facilities, a restaurant, a renovated swimming pool and a new main entrance. In a year when the hotel industry expects revenues and occupancy rates to fall, this could be some of the only news about new hotels in downtown Cleveland.
  21. When does construction start on the dorms to be built where the bookstore currently stands? I heard that the parking lot behind the bookstore closes in a couple of days. I thought this project wasn't starting until 2010.
  22. The former Machu Picchu space in the City Club building now has signage for the "Trifecta Sports Lounge." I remember hearing that a sports bar was opening in that space a while ago but I thought the plans had fizzled out. I hope it succeeds but it's not the greatest location.
  23. Sounds like a nice little project... http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/12/gcpoms1985yahoocom_the_greater.html Police memorial gets face-lift Posted by Donna J. Miller/Plain Dealer Reporter December 04, 2008 07:24AM Categories: Breaking News, Crime, FYI CLEVELAND -- The Greater Cleveland Peace Officer's Memorial Society is renovating the memorial for fallen officers in downtown Cleveland. The memorial in Huntington Park at Lakeside Avenue and West Third Street opened on May 14, 1993, and is being improved by Milano Monuments and Schill Landscape Design...
  24. Yeah I guess I went in two directions there! I was saying that the gateway area lacks affordable condo options. If you don't like the Pointe at Gateway you're out of luck. In regards to Perry Payne, I just saw the listing online and figured I would throw the info out there.
