  1. The later phases of the project call for building more condos on the parking lot by St. Clair and East 12th.
  2. There are plenty of affordable condos in the area, the problem is that they are all located in a single building. Also on a related note, I recently saw condo listings for the Perry Payne building on Superior. They were all around 200k or less.
  3. I was referring to prices similar to the Grande Arcade and Pointe at Gateway. Basically condos at 200k or less. Projects like the Avenue District are great but even with the tax abatement and special financing they are still out of reach for many people. I guess I'm kind of assuming that at least some of the condos on 4th street will be at 200k or less.
  4. The East 4th website says that they are gearing up to start selling condos on the street. Does anyone know which buildings? I'm very excited to hear this. Downtown lacks affordable condo options.
  5. ^^ I can't get over that Forum headline today...just unbelievable. The editor's note had a nice touch too; it said that downtown was in the worst shape it's ever been in Cleveland's 212 year history. I guess the thousands of people that choose to live downtown must all be idiots.
  6. Don't forget about Steelyard Commons. Even if you don't care for Wal-mart you still have Target, Best Buy etc. Granted it's not downtown but it's still pretty close.
  7. ^ It was my understanding that all county agencies would be located in a single building.
  8. ^ I would imagine that having the county as a tenant would probably discourage non-office uses and even could make it hard to find other office tenants. Having county social services and mental health agencies in the building isn't really appealing to other tenants. However, I still think it is something that should be explored.
  9. This is an updated article from Cleveland.com and is more or less the same thing. However it mentioned a possible government use for the Huntington building. Does anyone think that it could be a potential county government HQ? Is the county even looking for space or is that on that back burner? The iconic building on Public Square will get a new accessory -- prominent logos for Huntington bank. Updated 7:39 p.m. Huntington Bank is leaving its building on Euclid Avenue for newer space and a deal to put its name on the former BP Tower. A 20-year lease at 200 Public Square makes room for Huntington's name along the top of the 45-story building and on the atrium jutting into Public Square. Huntington's move will include 200 employees and take place by late 2011. More at http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/11/huntington_moving_to_200_publi.html
  10. I was on Ontario the other day when the school let it out, it wasn't the greatest crowd.
  11. I only post this because it means that a building on lower Prospect will be empty. It looks like a prime residential conversion. Greater Heights Academy shuts down Posted by Edith Starzyk/Plain Dealer Reporter November 17, 2008 14:54PM Categories: Breaking News, Education, Real Time News
  12. Does anybody have the Crains article about Huntington moving to 200 Public Square?
  13. Checkout Downtown 530. It's in the Euclid Arcade across from fitworks. The guy there is more of a stylist than a typical barber. I think he charges $18.

The launch of the consumer-product design district - with street-level showrooms and design centers along Euclid Avenue, radiating from PlayhouseSquare - is probably a year away, says concept co-founder Ned Hill, interim dean of the urban affairs college at Cleveland State University. Hill and Playhouse Square officials had hoped to debut the district sooner. But several consumer-products companies "have pulled in their horns" for the time being, Hill said recently. A few others are eager to move forward, Hill said, but multiple commitments are needed for a launch.
  15. ^ The enrollment has dropped but over the last few years it has leveled off at around 200 and is starting to tick up again.
  16. OLGC is getting screwed. I have "inside info" regarding this and the merged school won't have nearly enough capacity to accomodate all the students from both schools. OLGC has the financial resources to serve Old Brooklyn for several more years and particpation in both the Parish and the school is steady. The proposal doesn't accurately reflect the respective enrollments of the schools. The numbers were manipulated so that the difference in enrollment between Leo's and OLGC looks greater than it actually is. This is very bad news for old brooklyn. Several people I've spoken with have told me that this is the final straw and they will leave for the suburbs if this happens.
  17. Zocalo put up a new sign the other day. Also it looks like work on the new coffee shop is moving along.
  18. ^^ I was referring to Barnes and Noble building. I'm real glad this is finally starting, I think it's tacky how only part of the building facade was cleaned and the rest is filthy.
  19. It looks like work has begun on University Lofts. I saw those hanging construction lights on the upper floors and they also have a Marous banner on the building. I was afraid that this project was a victim of the credit crisis.
  20. Apparently one of the Cleveland.com idiots is spying on us... Posted by redbrickbarn on 10/29/08 at 11:01AM Wow 1012 Prospect Ave- thats downtown isn't it? I thought downtown Cleveland is supposed to be all wonderful and safe now according to the folks at urbanohio? An inspection of the police logs would prove otherwise!!
  21. Is Carter Manor on Prospect often a source of problems or is this an isolated incident? I live down the street but I am curious about how people who live right by it feel?
  22. Maybe it's just me, but when I compare Crains to the PD I feel like I am reading about two different cities. While Crains acknowledges the City's problems, they don't try and weave negativity into every article.
  23. ^^ If you click on the comments to her blog post, someone wrote a very good pro-Cleveland reply. As much as I love living downtown, I have to say that Euclid from East 14 to East 9th is creepy at night and I could understand why someone who stays in the PHS area would have a negative view of downtown.
  24. Shooting downtown last night, I'm sure that Channel 19 and the Cleveland.com idiots will be all over it... Fatal house fire, 5 shot in unrelated incidents overnight Posted by Donna J. Miller/Plain Dealer Reporter October 29, 2008 06:30AM Categories: Breaking News, Crime, Fire, Real Time News CLEVELAND -- Five people were shot overnight in Cleveland and one person died in a house fire. The first shooting happened about 12:15 a.m. at West 89th Street and Detroit Avenue. A man was shot in the leg. ... www.cleveland.com
  25. I noticed on Euclid today that the building between United Way and the Travelers Shop no longer has a for lease sign. There is a small banner which says "financing made available by Great Lakes Financial." Is this where the Kent UDC is moving?
