Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
If you look at the Tailor Southgate Bridge, you can see fencing along pedestrian walkways on the Ohio side. I'm assumung where they stop is the official state line, and that Kentucky didn't see the need for the fencing. http://www.cincinnati-transit.net/ztaylor1.jpg http://www.cincinnati-transit.net/ztaylor3.jpg http://www.cincinnati-transit.net/ztaylor7.jpg

What kind of camera is everyone using?
+1 for Fuji FinePix S5100. (Got it about 2 months ago and am loving it, a great camera. Everyone thinks its an SLR though.) But I havn't posted any of mine yet. I've got quite a few, but I'm waiting for a better internet connection. Soon as Cinergy gets their asses in gear on installing Current on my street, I'll be posting them for sure.

Grassroots "Ohio-just-as-good-if-not-better-than-other-places" Movement
Here is what the urban dictionary (www.urbandictionary.com) had to say about Ohio: The 17th state of the United States -- in 1803. Contains 13,000,000 people and its chief cities are Cleveland, Cincinnati, and the capital of Columbus. Ohio is known for being the home of the Wright Brothers, the first man in space, more presidents than any other state, and Generals William T. Sherman and U.S. Grant. Also home of the champion OSU Buckeyes. Unlike what others may tell you, there are larger hellholes in the universe. Ohio has a lot to offer and is a decent place full of decent people. Ohio's old license plates said "The heart of it all,and man was that a shitty slogan" The most American and least distinct of all 50 states, for better and for worse. A bit of everything from city, farm, suburb, decaying industry, new industry, colleges, malls, liberals, conservatives, etc. means that we have nothing that makes us really stand out. (Contrary to the POV of the person here who has some weird bitter vendetta about a car accident...if only we had a rep like Boston for bad drivers, at least that would be distinctive, but in reality we don't.) By the way, none of y'all can pronounce it right, which makes me think everyone here either just drove through once, or never got south of Akron or west of Athens. Nothing says "generic" like "Ohio." A pretty cool state, really kind of average in every sense. Very demographically diverse from the inbred hicks of the southeast to the liberal jackasses in Yellow Springs. Home of many historic places and people, such as Marietta, the first settlement in America's Northwest Territory. Also home to eight U.S. Presidents. Birthplace of Wilber and Orvill Wright, and both John Glenn and Neil Armstrong. Home of the largest state university in America, The Ohio State University, boasting an enrollment of over 50,000 students. In campus population, it is surpassed only by the University of Texas. A place with suposedly bad drives, although I haven't noticed a big difference when travelling to other states. Oft-maligned and berated by other Americans for being too average. All around, a pretty sweet place. Californian: Are you from Ohio? Ohioan: Yeah. Californian: Don't you guys all have cows and refrigerators on your porches? Ohioan: You are an idiot. I was expecting much worse. Aparently Ohio doesn't have that bad of a rep on the internet. edit - I should have read all of the entries before I posted. The third page of entries seem to have all been made by people from Michigan.

Looks like the top. Bring on phase II!

Cincinnati: John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge
I guess its more the fact that the other truss bridges look so industrial, and the Southgate bridge actually looks like it was meant to be pleasing to the eye. Also, its a lot larger and more impressive because of it, at least in my opinion. But to be honest, I don't really like any the truss bridges. They are much cooler ways to cross a river. I'm just hoping that when they finally do rebuild the Brent Spence that they put a landmark bridge in. The new bridge that was built as part of the big dig would be very nice, but I dont think it has the capacity needed for the brent spence.

Cincinnati: John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge
I actually find the Southgate bridge much more attractive than the Brent Spence, the Clay Wade Bailey, and the C&O. At least it doesn't look like every other truss bridge out there.

Cincinnati: John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge
I kinda like this trend that we have been seeing over the past few years. The bridges farthest East have been changing from dull, boring colors to bright ones. We first saw the purple people bridge, then the 471 bridge got a nice, bright coat of yellow. The suspension needs to keep its bright color. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing some more bridges painted bright colors when their time comes. Perhaps a nice red when it comes time to repaint the Southgate bridge. And of course, when the new 71/75 gets built, there is another opertunity there to finish off our array of bright colored bridges. But then again, just paint the damn thing so it doesn't end up in the river.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Reds up for sale Three partners put 51.5% on market; Major League Baseball will have say on any deal By Cliff Peale Enquirer staff writer The Cincinnati Reds may soon have a new majority owner, but chief executive officer Carl Lindner is expected to remain in control of the club. Three minority owners who together control a combined 51.5 percent of the Reds shares have put them up for sale, starting a process that could last more than a year. The shares will be grouped and offered for sale as a block, the owners said Tuesday. The stock is expected to fetch at least $100 million, perhaps more. In the short term, a sale of the majority interest in the team isn't expected to have great effect on the club on the field or in the front office. But over the next decade, it could dramatically restructure the ownership of the country's oldest professional baseball club. Ohio Dumb Laws
I bet there is a fairly interesting story behind this one: Paulding * A policeman may bite a dog to quiet him.

Hyde Park Taking a Stand
The article didn't call it the best school. The Cincinnati Kid did. I know from experience that they are far from the best school in town. I'm also glad to hear that they weren't talking about the mansions that are in the area. I guess I am just not familiar enough with the area.

Hyde Park Taking a Stand
??? I'm confused. Where around summit can you find six homes for $1M. The impression I got from driving around that area a few time through the years is that you cant find a house under $1M around there. Also, I'm not sure you can call Summit the best school in the city.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
That could be, I thought GTE was wireless only.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
VoiceStream (now T-Mobil) bought GTE. I hate them for it. GTE had great service, and great phones, and then we were forced to buy new (crappy Nokia) phones when VoiceStream bought them.

Cincinnati: Procter & Gamble
Dont think so, even thought Gillette is a fortune 500 company. Its simply a division of P&G now.

Where do you live?
I live on the west side in a 50's ranch style house. I can be downtown in 12 minutes on a good day, usually not longer than 15.

Cincinnati: Norwood - Cornerstone at Norwood
Is the entire structure three feet off the ground? It looks like you could crawl right under the building. Is there parking below there or something? Or am I just seeing things?

Random Ohio Sports Talk
They did beat NE 31-3 in the preseason, that has to count for something.

The speed is somewhere in the 3mbps range (mega bits per second.)

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
KJP, I can agree with the productivity argument. I used to do homework every morning on my way out to X on the metro. I would end up motion sick half the time, but it gave me a little more free time at home.

We already have a solution: hydroponics! In fact, pot growers have been using it for years. Hydroponics!
