  1. Based off of the comment sections of these articles on social media you would think Ohio City is being overrun with chains. The Cleveland Magazine article doesn't help stating Ohio City is "shifting to chains". People forget Build the Pho, Flower on Freeman, Green Salad Co, Isso Ni, Little Cloud Sandwiches all local businesses are opening on Ohio City as well. https://clevelandmagazine.com/food-drink/articles/starbucks-brings-another-chain-to-ohio-city
  2. I am feeling the same way you are. Happy a national brand is sniffing around OHC as that typically is a sign of solid health and hoping potential for some national retail but just dont want it to put any of our local brands out of business.
  3. Someone on the Ohio City Facebook just mentioned that a Starbucks is going in the Gehring building that's currently being worked on. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?
  4. New sandwich shop opening in OHC https://www.clevescene.com/food-drink/little-cloud-sandwiches-to-open-in-ohio-city-in-march-46182913
  5. The design is around the 37 minute mark. It's going to be a beautiful house. Great to see families choose to move and build something like this in the city.
  6. Replied to this in the Lakewood thread
  7. Yeah it's one of highest percentage of rentals out of any city in Ohio. Percentage of renters continues to increase. Owner occupied is 43.8% as of 2024. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/04/what-cities-lead-ohio-with-the-largest-concentration-of-renters.html
  8. I believe Edwin's said they will still have live Jazz every weekend. They weren't going to but seemed to change after so many people asked for it
  9. It also doesn't help that Lakewood continues to let the for sale housing be converted to rentals. It's up to something close to 60% of the total housing stock is now rentals putting even more strain on the for sale supply
  10. I came across this article and was curious if it matters statistically speaking that the Cinci and Columbus MSAs are around 800 square miles larger than Cleveland's. Per square mile of MSA Cleveland actually has more workers in it than the others but this article seems to just take it all at face value. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2025/02/27/cincinnati-tops-columbus-in-number-of-employees-and-gdp-per-huntington/80694707007/
  11. I only recently started going to Van Aken for lunch some days during the week. It's always been busy when I've gone for dinner but it's impressive the lunch crowd it gets. There's been lines at most food vendors and it's hard to find an open seat in the food hall most of the days I've gone. It's great to see.
  12. I've stayed at a few of these. They are nice and usually in interesting/walkable areas of the city. It would be awesome if Cleveland could land one. It would be perfect downtown or in Ohio City. https://www.hotelmanagement-network.com/news/hyatt-centric-35-hotels-2028/?cf-view
  13. This is the type of mindset that continues to hold Lakewood back. They need to take notes from their east side counterparts
  14. Yup those were the ones. In a matter of 15 minutes we saw different groups of people jump over them
  15. I'm guessing just private.
  16. I was in DC a couple months ago and they have very jumpable turnstyles. They even have security sitting right next to them and I was amazed at how many people just blatantly jumped over them right in front of security. Security also did nothing to stop them.
  17. I still consider OHC probably the best food scene anywhere near Cleveland. I'm typically disappointed when traveling due to how good it is around here. Proof is packed anytime I have been by there and Alea announced they will be back soon just on a much needed vacation. Black Pig and Flying fig were big losses but the additions of Juneberry, Pioneer and Jaja have been pretty great too. Getting a national chain as well as keeping Soho near by to Ohio City seems like a win win to me for the neighborhood
  18. I'm more worried about cuts than I am a delay. The only thing I can find on what will actually be cut is anything related to DEI, Green Deal and foreign aid. I wouldn't think anything related to Cleveland development would fall into any of those categories.
  19. Can you point me to where it specifically says this is all going to happen in terms of the no state, county or Cleveland money?
  20. TDi replied to KJP's post in a topic in Ohio Business and Economy
Just for my general understanding can you explain further what you mean in your first paragraph? More specifically why would demand cause property tax bills to increase and then also why would adding apartments cause property tax bills to decrease? I was under the impression the appraisals that only happen every 6 years were the driver of tax bills.
  21. Ahh got it, I didn't realize that. I thought by second building they meant it was part of the project being built.
  22. Sounds like the second building was not affected at all. Maybe they dont need to start from scratch after all. https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/cleveland-heights-project-marquee-damaged-fire "Cleveland Heights Fire Chief James Harry confirmed to WKYC that the fire left the affected building, located at 13230 Cedar Rd., “unsalvageable.” The 74,230-square-foot building was slated to house 139 of the project's 204 luxury apartment residences and 1,200 square feet for undesignated retail and amenities. The project's second building, located on Lee Rd., between Tullamore Rd. and Meadowbrook Blvd., was not affected, fire officials told media."
  23. Yeah it was kind of confusing how all that was portrayed. At first it was all about crime and then when he actually moved it was all about how he needed more space to expand the restaurants but is leaving the majority of his businesses around the square still. So which is it...I'm guessing a little of both but that's not how it was portrayed at first.
  24. There's so much potential in Shaker Square and I feel it is moving in the right direction. The biggest thing to me is just making people comfortable going again. The media seems very fixated on pointing on the crime in the square and it has not helped public perception at all. Bigger and more frequent public events that they are talking about should help to improve this.
  25. All the articles about the bike shop closing said he had multiple offers to sell already so I was under that impression as well
