  1. Why do you feel the Hotel Cleveland project is a dud? I have been through there many times and it's an incredibly beautiful renovation in my opinion
  2. Kates fish opening Seafood bar in Tremont https://www.clevescene.com/food-drink/tom-mcintyre-of-kates-fish-to-open-seafood-bar-in-tremont-45886610
  3. All of these articles and updates say "executed a clause" or "take next step towards purchase" which are far from them actually purchasing it. Unless I've missed something I feel like this was just a fluff update and we really are not in any different position than we were before.
  4. Didn't he just renovate the lakewood location. Very short lived I guess. https://www.clevescene.com/food-drink/matt-fish-has-permanently-closed-melt-bar-and-grilled-45789718
  5. "50,000 square feet of anchor food/beverage, pickleball and indoor mini-golf use" Am I reading too much into this or does this seem way too specific to not have someone already lined up to lease this space?
  6. If I have learned anything about Jimmy Haslam from being a browns fan it is that he will do anything for a buck no matter what the fan base wants.
  7. https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/mls/columbus-crew/2024/12/18/columbus-crew-to-host-lionel-messi-inter-miami-in-cleveland/77056247007/ Sounds like this was baked into the season ticket holder renewal which shows this was determined a while ago. Huntington Field can also hold significantly more people. Crew fans from Columbus may not like it but I dont see this being changed. Huge money opportunity for the Haslams as well.
  8. *Downtown Lakewood megaGARAGE gets final OK
  9. As evidence of more families moving into the city CMSD is improving. Out of the 3 Cs, Cleveland is the only 3 star district as of 2024 (Columbus is 2 and Cinci is 2.5 stars). In terms of K-8 there are multiple 4+ star schools within a mile of the near west side. On top of that the Cleveland Scholarship is a non income based grant from the state that pays for the majority of private school tuition for residents of the city of Cleveland if they want to go that route. Plenty of schooling options for parents who choose to live in the city. I too notice way more kids in my neighborhood in Cleveland than in the suburbs I go to. Could just be the density but a great sign for the city none the less.
  10. SweatHouz signed a lease at Intro in the large space next to Edda. I'm not familiar but from their website it's a national luxury wellness studio brand
  11. I was down there last night right around the time this was happening. The bars were packed especially the new Royal Docks Brewing and continued to stay packed throughout the night. Its an unfortunate reality of most major cities due to all walks of life living in them but I dont think it has the effect you are trying to portray. If you are not committing a crime or a criminal you are more than likely to not be involved in something like this and I think the people who choose to spend time in the city realize that.
  12. They were at Ohio City Design review last week and a couple things seemed to have changed since they came to the block clubs: They mentioned underground parking at the block clubs but it sounds like there are some caved in basements underground that make it not feasible. Now the parking is above ground with about half the spots originally proposed. Dan mentioned that his ideal scenario is no parking but get deals in place with surrounding parking lots that ae underutilized. I will be curious how this goes over with getting approvals. Dan mentioned their hotel partner is a large global hotel entity which I believe he originally didn't expect it to be. As long as the design is boutique in nature I dont think this really matters one way or another.
  13. Overall quality/freshness compared to the other locations. Unfortunately the space they bought in Lakewood was found out after the fact to not have enough space for a kitchen. So the bagels they serve there are baked at the Ohio City/Midtown locations, shipped to the Lakewood location and then frozen until used and reheated to serve. At a place that charges the price of freshly baked bagels I think people dont feel this concept meets that standard set by the Ohio City/Midtown locations.
  14. I'm no insurance expert but aren't these the types of things that business insurance covers? Damages, loss of business etc? I'm also in the optimism camp especially for Jaja as they had Marble Room type waiting periods for their reservations. Its turned into a very popular spot.
  15. That Chipotle got annihilated by the Ohio City residents in every meeting they went to as with most chains wanting to come to the neighborhood. I would be shocked if a chain is going into the Gehring building.
  16. Salt and El Carn both made business decisions to specifically close their Lakewood locations while keeping their other locations open with Momocho and Poppy. This is more surprising for Salt as that was their original location but that's a lot different than management wanting to step back. Wine Dive is fine but very similar to any you name it bar all across Lakewood and not on par with the food that El Carn had. Both Cleveland Bagel Cafe and Artis have had very mixed reviews so far as well but hoping they turn around. There are clearly some passionate Lakewood people in here so Ill stop but again this was just my observation from someone who frequents Lakewood establishments.
  17. Its just my observation and I dont have the answers but I do think Lakewood needs to take a look at what's going on. Businesses like The Foundry, Salt, El Carn, Deagons, Griffon Works etc. are businesses that make Lakewood different from other suburbs and the businesses that have replaced what has closed are not the same quality because its hard to replicate. If a bunch of businesses closed/relocated in a short amount of time downtown, OHC or Tremont like they have in Lakewood people would absolutely be asking what's going on. Not sure why we cant do the same for Lakewood.
  18. I did see it but I guess my point is that still doesn't account for all the others that have closed or relocated this year. It's not a small amount. If it's all landlord issues then that in itself is a problem.
  19. Just read on their Facebook that The Foundry Concert Club is moving out of Lakewood. This place has been a staple for like 20 years. A real bummer for the Lakewood scene. There has been quite a few Lakewood businesses that have announced closures or relocations this past year it seems.
  20. Didn't get the chance to take a pic but there is work being done on the building next to Intro on Ghering Ave. If I remember there were plans to renovate to add some retail spots.
  21. From what I saw there was a large group of kids still on public square well after the event. That group started fighting and the police closed down public square to everyone shortly after. With the incident that happened last year following a group fighting on public square well after the event I think what they did this year was warranted. To call it anything else seems like a reach in my opinion.
  22. I was at the tree lighting event. It was all around a really great experience and even with how cold it was it was packed with people. I especially noticed a ton of families down there with their kids which was great to see. It was one of the best fireworks shows I have seen. The city did a great job in terms of security too, everyone I talked to and was with said they felt the same. In terms of the "disturbance" it was just a bunch of kids hanging out on public square well after the event . The police decided it was time for people to go home so they disbursed them and that was it. The media just couldn't help itself in trying to find something negative to write about Cleveland per usual. Dont let them paint a false picture of what was a great night for the City of Cleveland.
  23. Well it would seem one of the largest hotel brands in the country may disagree with that statement
  24. I feel like something people are not mentioning too is that Cleveland already had a very strong bid in 2022 and was a finalist but not having a dedicated stadium hurt them. This being their second time through the process, with a stadium, 15k+ season ticket pledges and a larger group of investors it just seems like the strongest bid on the table by far. Essentially the only thing I see that Cincinnati has over Cleveland is an existing professional soccer team which you could argue may not actually be an advantage.
  25. Where does it say that? All this article states, just like all the other ones, is that its down to 3 and Cincinnati is one of them. It even states that Cleveland's bid has star power too.
