I may be moving to columbus and working downtown, it'll be great to see this thing everyday..BTW I was very impressed overall with Columbus, the place have changed alot since last time Ive been there. I found the website and was intrigued by this statement, "This promises to be the only permitted “Times Square” type of graphic presentation in the Midwest. With only eight “slots” available it provides a unique opportunity for high level corporate identification and exposure." They say it as if no one else will be allowed to do it..

Does anyone know if theyll move club Bijou to a different location downtown or is it permenatly closed..That was one of the few hot spots downtown.

I just came from downtown Columbus for the first time after attending a job inteview and I had time to walk through the downtown and saw construction of this place..I knew about this site and found this thread.Is this building going to look like that awsome looking rendering I saw eariler in this thread whith the digital signs and stuff?? If it is thats the most awsome freakin thing Ive seen in awhile in Ohio..Its like a Mini times square..Is that how its going to look or have things changed?

Dont know if you know or not but Toledo has no sportscomplex to hold events. So all of the big events will be in Detroit. I went to Wrestlemaina this year in Detroit and it was great.

I give Toledo a D+ although I would have rated it an F from 2005 on back.. The rise comes from the fact that there has been 6.5 billion in total investment (according to city officials), which is unheard of for this city. Ground has been broken on the Marina district and Commissioners have been very aggressive on the downtown arena construction. Even though I dont like the guy I have to admit Carty has been A WORLD of difference when compared to Jack Ford. The problem is Toledo couldnt attact jobs if its life depended on it. Its like theyve all but given up on attacting new HQ's to the city. I would have liked to have seen an aggressive attempt to snag Qucken loans when they were debating between Clevland and Detroit..Depending on Jeep and GM is like living on a respirator, the city has been getting LUCKY breaks by making the right products for the right car companies. With the loss of the Ford plant in Maumee you can see the luck is slowly running out.

One could say Florida had thier chance but lost to auburn. You cant penalize Michigan because the two best teams are in the Big 10.I would rather NOT see a rematch but anyone who looks at this objectivley knows Michgain is the 2nd best team in the nation..The Cpu will have UM 2nd but thats only 1/3 of the formula. If voters vote on the basis of not wanting to see a rematch, thats when the problems will start.

My field is in Human Resources/Org. Development, I'm very adament in getting into a job with the city or state..Perferably a city, so I can focus on the development of the cities human capital. Im flexible on where I would live as long it is at least a midsized city with some diversity..The problem with HR is that its hard to get into, let alone getting into government. I just recently got turned down for a low pay HR clerk position in Toledo where the qualifications were a high school dipolma and a pulse. It was posted on a website which I know no one goes to, I find it hard to believe someone with better qualifications knew of this job outside of me. I mean Im no genius but I find it hard for any college grad to not be qualified to email, fax, print, and act as everybodys do-boy. Even though I hate networking, Ive done a little of that and it actually got me my current job...Although the whole concept of networking rubs me the wrong way. Im like listen, just give me a job; I dont want to know about you, your kids, or your hobbies b/c Ive got goals to reach..But I have to act like I care what thier saying outside of getting me a job. I know that sounds harsh but its true.. Of the 3'c Ive only tried two so far, Cleveland and Columbus as Im starting from the North and working my way down. Im looking into Dayton and Cincy at the moment. I will say the City of Columbus who did respond was very gracious, even though I wasnt the finalist picked for the HR position. I was told if openings come up in the next two years they would likely give me a call. The people were nice too.

I say Ohio should just be upfront and demand a ransom of $50 billion from canadate X in the 2008 election. Either they pay up federal dollars or we swing the state for the other person. We spread it across five metros..10 billion each..Then we start pickin off corporations from other states, lock them deals that keep them the state for no less than 20 years...problem solved.. In all honesty I like Ohio, but if I havent found nothing by time Im outta grad school Im outta here....I sent about 25 resumes in my field throughout Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo..Got called for one interview in Columbus...In contrast I sent 3 resumes to Chicago and got called back for 3 interviews.. It seems like Ohio dosent really want me to stay here.

For every $14 million UT spent on research in 2004, it created one new biotechnology start-up, a ratio that ranks it seventh among academic centers in Europe, Asia, and North America, the nonprofit economic think thank reported. The ranking does not include research expenditures by the Medical University of Ohio, which merged with UT in July and became the Health Science Campus. Research expenditures at both institutions totaled $53 million in 2004. No disrespect to the Longhorns but Texas was waaaaaay overrated, alot more than I already thought. The teams in thier division had never really been competitive and on sept 9 that was made abundantly clear. Many are now drinking the ND kool aid but Penn State is a completely different team than last year because they lost about 12 starters. ND's decisive win over Penn State shouldnt have been a surprise, and they dont deserve the #2 spot. People will realize ND is also overrated when they play Michigan next week. Anyway I had an unusually good time watching the Buckeyes.

Bass Pro Shops looks at location in Rossford National retailer seeks tax incentive The national retailer Bass Pro Shops is interested in building a large store in Rossford that could employ several hundred workers and lure shoppers from many miles away, Wood County officials said yesterday. The retailer, which specializes in fishing and hunting equipment, submitted an application Friday with the Wood County commissioners for an economic incentive package to build the store in the so-called Crossroads of America area in Rossford, county Administrator Andrew Kalmar said. The agreement, if approved, would give the retailer three-quarters of the county's 1-cent sales tax on purchases at the new store for up to 10 years. The retailer's application says it wants to build a 150,000-to 180,000-square-foot store on vacant land west of Crossroads Parkway and south of State Rt. 795, Mr. Kalmar said. The store would include space for a restaurant, a boat dealership, and an 18,000-gallon aquarium. It would employ a minimum of 250 full-time employees, he said. I have it on good authority that Bass Pro Shops has chosen Rossford for thier second location in Ohio. The announcement will be made sometime in the next few days.

Cdawg The thing is, 2010 is too far away to make blanket predictions on any population movements. Ive seen predictions showing Toledo both shrinking and growing just this year. Its clear no one really knows what will happen. Im not going to be so gloom and doom, I wouldnt be surprised to see population growth above the 301k figure by 2010. From what I see everyday the hispanic population is waaaaaaay undercounted.

Today local news agencies corrected yesterdays stories claiming Toledo sank under 300k. All Ohio cities are smaller than what the real 2010 census will show. I suspect Columbus will grow substantually when thier student population is included. I think these numbers are a bit over exaggerated but the trend is probably accurate. The Blade as usual fails to put emphasis on WHY Toledo and other cities are declining. They continue to insinuate that people are flocking out of these cities, its a little more complicated than that. On a personal note I dont know why Toledo is waiting to annex more land, it will at least make the death slower. BTW I thought the census already came out with 2005 numbers. :?

The Toledo Community Development Corp., formerly Toledo Central City Neighborhoods, tried to keep as much of the home, built in 1914, as it was while rehabilitating the structure. Illegal immigrants ARE counted on the U.S. census, Ohio and the Midwest are behind from the start. For Ohio to sustain its politcal strength its needs to push for laws that would prohibit the counting of illegal immigrants on the U.S. census. I recall this bill being pushed in the Ohio house but im not sure what happened to it. If it passes you would see the population figures of states like Texas, California, New York, Illinois Florida, etc. fall considerably, thereby bringing them more in line with us. The downside of this of course is that it would technically lower our countries already low population growth in the eyes of the world (even though we really would still allow illegals to be part of the economy).

This isnt the first time Ive heard Ohio is a hot market. Housing prices are ridiculously low in this state so I figured I would look into buying an investment property to rent out while the gettings good. For the past 3 weeks Ive been researching the Toledo area and to my surprise Ive found out that California investors quietly are buying up everything. I was told by a realtor that California investors a cashing in thier expensive houses to buy investment properties in the area, they had beat me to it. The average growth in the midwest is 0.8% and 5.2% nationwide in Toledo its 15.6%!
