  1. If those population figures are right (and I have no reason to belive they arent) Toledo would be the only city (pending Dayton and Akron of course) to have gained in population. I was certain Toledo would drop below 300k but going by memory alone I think that its population was 304k range now its well over 305k. I may be wrong, Ill have to check.
  2. Finally some private investment for the Marina District?? Although Im wondering would this be indoor or outdoor because I dont understand why another indoor facility would be built when a new sports arena is being planned :? Group proposes ice-rink complex in Marina District By CHRISTOPHER D. KIRKPATRICK BLADE STAFF WRITER Though the Marina District has still not secured retail businesses, a group of private investors has plans to build a $6 million ice rink facility that would rent time for hockey leagues and residents, if tax incentives from the city can be arranged. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060519/NEWS16/605190448/-1/NEWS
  3. lol..-2..I wonder how much this "study" has to do with Ken Blackwell getting the GOP nomination... As the title states, the study is bias..Outside of only a handful of coastal areas, Ohio is just as discriminatory to gays as any other state. I know some who even says its too liberal.
  4. Heres an article from The Toledo Blade that hints at Van Wert in NW Ohio is getting the plant. Options are placed on the land just like Indiana. But it also states western Ohio may not be a good place because of competition with jeep workers. Would be surprised if Indiana dosent get it. Northwest Ohio could have a stake in a new Honda Motor Co. assembly plant to be built in the Midwest. An undeveloped, 1,700-acre site in rural Van Wert County seems to fit Honda's criteria, and state development officials have asked about it, a county official said. An Ohio Department of Development team, working for two months with the Japanese car maker, said it has identified two sites in the state that meet the firm's requirements and the automaker is considering them. ...

This is a very exciting series. I'm certainly pulling underdog Cavs. I just love it when all the experts and pundints eat their own words. And Rasheed's arrogance makes this latest victory much more sweet. The eyes of the country is on Cleveland and Lebron, if they can put away the Pistons in one of the next two games it would be a storybook ending. Expect Lebrons profile to increase exponentially. Go Cavs!!
  6. Its amazing how much impact Lebron has had on Cleveland. As a outsider I will admit that him and him alone actually makes me want to visit Cleveland again. Hes giving the city an identity and thats important.
  7. All I know is Im taking my dollars to this new Southwyck place, it would have been nice if they came up with a more creative name for the development, but anyways its always good to see a new massive project IN Toledo. When is ground-breaking? I heard it will be open for business in fall 07', so ground breaking must be soon.
  8. Work about to blossom in Sylvan Prairie Toledo Blade, 5/4/06 Work could get under way soon on a hike and bike trail in the newly named Sylvan Prairie Park, where a sledding hill, playground, and restored wetlands will be featured attractions. Bids for the trail construction are to be opened during the Olander Park System’s board of commissioners May 22 meeting. The 100-acre park, between Sylvania Avenue and Brint Road, is adjacent to Timberstone Junior High School. The hike and bike trail, which will be known as the Quarry Ridge Bike Trail, will start near Timberstone school and encircle the park. It will proceed north across Brint Road to Fossil Park, Centennial Quarry and Terrace, and Pacesetter Park.
  9. Im not sure of my vote was counted. Lucas county used the computer machines in the 04' election. Last time I had no problems, this year the machine froze on me and election workers kept getting new cards for me to use, this whole ordeal took around 5-8 mins all while Im holding up the lines. After voting for the last local issue it froze again, the poll worker yanked out the card (Im thinking mistakingly) and puts it back in. She tells me to hit next page, so I do and a blank recept comes out and the final screen comes up. :? I felt sick because I knew my vote didnt count, and I didnt want to waste more time. I know from last year those recipts are supposed to have some wording on it, this one was blank. The poll worker says its normal, but I think she was lying. I wasted a good 20 mins voting today. :-(
  10. Detroit always gets bashed here, during the 05' mayoral debates some candidates scared people by claiming Jack Ford would make Toledo into the "Next Detroit". I remember saying to myself, that would be a good thing. Detroit just simply isnt as bad as its reputation. Some areas yes, but the downtown area is relatively safe from what I undersand.
  11. ^about the Marina District Im encouraged that the 78-slip marina and an access road will supposably be completed by years end. I really dont see where all this is going though, seems like alot of random proposals are coming up by the week. I would like to see them do something like in Columbus with the cool digital signs over the lofts...Seeing all that action going on in while driving across the G.C. Skyway would look kinda cool. Channel 11 is already by the riverfront anyway. Combine this with an outdoor amphitheater, riverwalk to "The Docks", a few resturants/retail with room for growth, maybe a few condos, and a COOL LOOKING multipurpose indoor recreation facility you would have one hell of a riverfront.
  12. The Marina District looks like its gonna suck, I heard today it isnt going to be a retail/entertainment district anymore but just a bunch of condos. Most of the money will be spent on "the canal to nowhere" (which IMHO may be a pipedream). I also heard some idiotic idea of moving the outdoor amphetheater near "The Docks", one of the most backwards ideas Ive heard in awhile especially since that area is known to get pretty loud. This is what happens when you fire a professional company like Pizzuti and let some local with no experience take on a project this size. Good news is im finally seeing some activity going on in the Marina District area, better something than nothing I guess.

BWHAHAHAHA  I cant disagree with you there Im afraid she may lose her appointed seat this year though, alot of people in her district isnt feelin the fact that she is from South Toledo rather than in the larger East Toledo area. :-P

Heres an interesting Ohio vs. N. Carolina thread. It started as NC bashing ohio but Ohioans came in an began bashing NC...Its worth the read. http://www.tbotcotw.com/archives/2002/05/ohio_sucks "I just drove from California to Michigan, and Ohio was by far the shittiest state that I drove through. And Cincinnati is the worst! My friend called it "the black gate of Mordor" "Ohio! The Fart of it All!" "i cannot think of one good thing about this fucking piece of shit state. the people are emotionless, unfeeling, soulfully bankrupt clones. why does everyone here look inbred? they are a bunch of fucking heartless wannabes. coming from calfornia it is hard to understand the level of unjustified racism and sexism, what the hell is it the 1920's still?" "after being in NE ohio for just over a year i have finally found regret. we're in stow and people here brag about how "how no blacks and mexicans live in 'our' city". the funny part is most of our neighbors are black. but of course they don't count bc we live in the "ghetto". in the first couple of months i was warned by a guy with down syndrome to move away quick or i would catch brain damage from living here. we're out in may, so for now i do my best not to leave the house. ohio can burn in hell. oh wait it already is. "
  16. Sylvania boys petition council for skate park Toledo Blade, 4/20/06 Armed with 120 signatures on a petition, photographs, and financial details, three Sylvania boys proposed to city officials earlier this week that the city invest in a skate park. Nick Hosinski, 14, and Ben Miller, 14, told city council’s parks and forestry committee about skate parks in area communities, including Oregon, Maumee, Toledo, Port Clinton, Delta, and Bedford Township. Young Miller, whose 11-year-old brother Sam is involved in the skate park effort, said that city police seem to be “cracking down” on skateboarders who are getting “kicked off” private property, such as behind a downtown business. “We don’t have any place in Sylvania where we can go,” Ben said.

This is needed...Toledoans suffers from the Eeyore syndrome big time. Along with this I notice they are running commericals on how "Toledo is on the move" funded by the Toledo Blade. I assume these ads are some how related to this Toledo pride thing.
  18. A little surprised at Trevin & Molly Looks like he at least has a lock on the asian vote
  19. Credit union eyed in area of Dorr-Detroit  Im intrigued in what they're doing in this area, I drove passed there today and saw the sign about the new town homes they were building and was surprised. Now I read they're buliding this new credit union. I really hope it kick starts more development.
  20. I wonder what Carty thinks about this since he made it a mission for Toledo to get this award again..I bet deep inside hes pissed. From what I understand the Maumee Mayor is running for commish, this will probably help his chances.
  21. Hmmm.. I like hip-hop and I like church but for some reason the two just dont mix well in my opinion...Anyway I know a few who went to this and they seemed to have really enjoyed it.
  22. Better quality of life my ass, a large chunk of thier lives are spent commuting  Americans commute longer, farther than ever NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dave Givens drives 370 miles to work and back every day and considers his seven-hour commute the best answer to balancing his work with his personal life. The winner of a nationwide contest to find the commuter with the longest trek, Givens is one of millions of people who are commuting longer and farther than ever before. 23. I read an article not too long ago that younger people were "fleeing" to the cities...Maybe cites should market themselves as cool places to be, rather than "places to raise a family"..Theres no pleasing these old suburbanites, they just keep running farther and farther away. I cant wait until gas prices hit $5 a gallon so the long commute will hurt em that much more.
  24. Bobo, do you have a link for that story? http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1102AP_Mexico_Mistreating_Migrants.html actually I read it off Yahoo..but heres a reputable site saying the same thing
