Because this is really a discussion around the urban/non-urban divide and not actually about particular suburbs. People in inner ring suburbs fall into the urban category of that divide and don't need convincing about urbanism. So, the fact that you pointed out that people in urban areas(Upper Arlington) are using buses is largely irrelevant to the discussion in convincing "non urban"(Powell/New Albany/Dublin) to do the same thing. As others have mentioned, the mentalities differ greatly across that divide.

Outer ring suburbanites are a different animal entirely than inner ring suburbanites. When we have discussions around "getting suburbanites downtown," I assume we are talking about the outer ring suburbanites. Of course Upper Arlington residents are more open to urbanity. That's why they live there instead of Dublin/Powell/New Albany.

So, there should be no expectation from the city to do things like bury the power lines on 4th? It serves a function. It isn't an art installation, after all. If the power substation in Arena District didn't already exist, and AEP decided to put it there, there wouldn't be pushback? Well, I'd imagine it matters as much to Madison County residents as burying power lines in urban neighborhoods matters to UO members. Madison County residents are just supposed to shut up and accept aesthetically unpleasing living conditions, but urban complaints are valid?

I was talking about the 70 W from 3rd St exit. But, either way, this new configuration gives you the option and allows you to avoid disrupting 70 W traffic flow like @inkmentioned.

I lived in German Village for several years and took that ramp many times. Any time I got onto the 70 W ramp downtown and needed to get over to the left for 71 S, it felt like I was in Mad Max. The amount of time you have to merge is tiny, and then you have to cut across the whole highway in a short time. This happened at most times of the day. Maybe my experience is unique. But, I feel this will be better, personally, at least from a driving experience standpoint. Maybe not visually. But, I'm pretty sure the entire point of this whole project was to reduce these necessary merges across multiple lanes, which this will accomplish.

Yea, and some people don't like those things. So, they avoid those things and, for some reason that I don't understand, this really bothers a lot of urbanites.

I never understand why urbanites always get so angry and make fun of suburban people for this stuff. I've lived in various areas of Columbus for 14 years, like Old North, Victorian Village, German Village/Schumacher Place. I love living near the core, but, over those years, I've definitely dealt with issues that just wouldn't have been a thing if I lived in an area like Dublin. A friend got jumped when I lived in Old North. My car has been frequently checked by random homeless people in Schumacher place. Also, in Schumacher place, my friend on the other side of my duplex was followed into her garage by a drugged out person. Our next door neighbors were robbed at gun point in their back yard in a house that is worth over 1 million dollars. Countless homeless interactions in those years. And yea, sometimes parking was annoying during ComFest and marathons. It's ok to admit that some annoyances come with urban living. It's not all perfect, far from it, actually. Some people don't like those things. That's ok. Personally, I continue to live here even after those issues. But, for the people in the million dollar house, it was too much. They put it up for sale and moved to Dublin. I don't blame them. If I pay $1 million for a house, I'd like to feel comfortable hosting a party in my backyard without getting robbed.
