  1. For anybody curious, here's some research from Texas Tech in 2014 about the increasing trend of hateful messages towards college athletes. I think the findings are obviously very relevant today to the EJ Liddell situation. It mentions the need for athletic department personnel to provide resources to the athletes, so it's good to see that OSU had such a strong response: “I hate you man!”: Exploring maladaptive parasocial interaction expressions to college athletes via Twitter. Abstract There has been an increasing trend of fans attacking college athletes via Twitter after athletic contests. These messages often contain hostile and vitriolic language that in many cases, make national sport news headlines. The present study explored this behavior through the lens of maladaptive parasocial interaction (Kassing & Sanderson, in press) by investigating tweets directed at University of Alabama placekicker Cade Foster after Alabama lost their rivalry game against Auburn University on November 30, 2013. Using Radian6 software, a total of 938 tweets were analyzed. Analysis revealed that maladaptive parasocial interaction manifested in the following ways: (a) belittling; (b) mocking; (c) sarcasm; and (d) threats. Interestingly, and unexpectedly, a host of supportive comments were conveyed to Foster as well. The results suggest that athletic department personnel must provide resources and education for college athletes on coping with these messages to mitigate potentially negat... https://scholars.ttu.edu/en/publications/i-hate-you-man-exploring-maladaptive-parasocial-interaction-expre-5
  2. The investment in this building is growing again: Exclusive: Gene therapy manufacturing facility grows to $200M with investment Nationwide Children's Hospital's biotech spinoff has landed its first outside equity investment from a main supplier – allowing it to again double capacity of the manufacturing facility it is building in the Ohio State University Innovation District. Andelyn Biosciences Inc. still aims to complete the 185,000-square-foot factory by the end of 2022, but the cost to build and equip it has doubled to $200 million because of skyrocketing demand for the genetic materials it makes for pharmaceutical research and clinical trials. 3. It's amazing how they plan to build the entire structure underground and lift it up.
  4. I'm not sure how these apply here as this project lost very little density with the height reduction, which was the point of my comment.
  5. Did it actually lose much other than the parking garage that made it taller? I don't think it's actually losing a lot of apartments or office space. According to one of the articles: Unless I'm missing something, it seems like it's not losing much in terms of density.
  6. I'll definitely take this over the complete inactivity, though. The single porta potty that has been the only thing on site for months finally has a purpose.
  7. Looks like some movement on the Gravity 2.0 site. There is some new equipment there in the middle of the site that doesn't appear to be for the nearby road work. Also, this week, an influencer posted about the views of downtown from Gravity 1 and tagged the Gravity Instagram account. The Gravity account replied saying that more views are coming.
  8. Well, it's a good thing we're about to get a statistics lesson from @Pugu, then.
  9. Can you explain the arbitrary methodology you use to determine what is and is not within the Cleveland MSA, since it clearly differs from the official Census methodology? You say stuff like this all the time, so I'm genuinely interested in your precise methods and how you personally choose what to include in the MSA. I'm curious if it's anything other than it "feels like it should be in there." Maybe you've explained it before. If so, I missed that explanation. I'm no expert in it, but according to @cbussoccer, it seems like the Census uses commuter patterns to determine this. How do their numbers differ from yours?
  10. Interesting. It isn't actually losing that many apartments or much office space. It looks like the biggest loss is parking. I really don't mind the height loss if all you're losing is parking. Hopefully that doesn't mean they had to scale back the next phase and now think they need less parking.
  11. I imagine this area is going to explode as the Innovation District gets built out by OSU and people need nearby places to live. The other day, I drove by the buildings currently being built on Kenny and couldn't help but think how different that area from Lane to 5th will look in 10 years.
  12. I definitely agree with this statement.
  13. This is the part where I was confused. I thought you were saying that adding the new interchange will contribute to further sprawl and make the area even more unattractive. Considering the forum we're on, a place where many are against sprawling development in that area at all, I don't think that's an unreasonable interpretation. However, after clarifying, it seems you are for the new interchange because you travel the other exit often and more development would make it even more of a mess without another exit. And you are for adding new businesses in that area, once again, a stance that many here are probably against. I was just trying to get the general vibe around this new exit proposal. Thanks for clarifying your view.
  14. I'm honestly struggling a bit to interpret this comment. That makes it seem like you're for the exit. That makes it seem like you're against. Once again, for? How should I feel about this project? lol Obviously we all hate sprawl here. But, this should lead to net gains for the region, right?
  15. What exactly do you mean that the census has been "trying" to get Ohio to lose population?
  16. Your first picture is mentioned in this article at the bottom: https://www.columbusunderground.com/boutique-hotel-proposed-for-italian-village-site-bw1 Also on the agenda for the meeting is a proposal for the parcel immediately to the north – the former Durable Slate building, located at 1040 N. Fourth St. That’s the building that the Lykens Companies has proposed replacing with a four-story apartment complex. The latest plan for the site calls for a 66-unit building with commercial space on the first floor. I'm not sure about the other building.
  17. Speaking of the tower crane, I was surprised that we were seeing one go up so soon. When should we realistically expect this tower to reach full height? Will it really take 5 years? Or will we see it top out much before that with a bunch of other work going on inside after that before the 2026 opening?
  18. Nice to see they mentioned that they had already been considering a 20 story tower in the original plan. Hopefully we get at least that.
  19. Planners lay out latest look for Confluence Village in the Arena District The southernmost part of the project – on West Nationwide and the new Columbus Crew Way – will be a five-story, 150,000-square foot office and commercial building. The office building will have 30,300-square-foot floor plates and each floor will have a few rooftop terraces. Two five- and six-story residential buildings to the north will include 444 residential units along the Olentangy River and new Jaeger Bend Drive. They'll be served by a 4,200-square-foot fitness center, pool and 4,000-square-foot amenity area with roof. ... The commercial elements will surround a four-story, 600-space parking garage across the street from the stadium. A 127-space surface parking garage also will be located to the north, along the railroad tracks. ... The original master plan had envisioned a 250-unit senior living property that could rise as far as 20 stories on the land north of the stadium. The site is still being prepared for a future phase that hasn't been articulated yet, according to the latest plans. ... Pizzuti Cos. estimates the development will break ground in the fourth quarter of 2021, a few months after the stadium's completion. It will be complete in the second quarter of 2023. 20. Was just taking a look at some of the tract data that @jonoh81posted in the Ohio population thread. I thought it was interesting that a couple of the fastest shrinking tracts were in the Old North area. I was surprised by that.
