Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I mean, I feel like moving in there, you have to be aware that you're going to hear noise from the trains. I lived up in Lakewood near Cleveland for around 6 months and tracks go right through the neighborhood. Because there is an at grade crossing at each block, trains essentially have to just lay on their horn the entire time as they pass through the neighborhood. You just get used to it as part of living there.

More on this: $120M Franklinton project lands first tenant, starts ground work Kaufman Development says demolition has started at the West Broad Street site, paving the way for a full block of development totaling 840,000 square feet that will include the neighborhood's tallest building. The second phase sits across the street from the project's first phase at 500 W. Broad St., which was completed last year. The developer also announced its first tenant for this phase of the project. OhioHealth will build a 13,000-square-foot primary care and urgent care facility in the ground floor of the development's main office building. Passenger rail confirmed. This is definitive proof and I won't believe otherwise. I also see a 700ft tower in the background with a ground floor Trader Joe's.

TH3BUDDHA replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHonestly, sometimes I think this is really what it's about for NIMBYs. They get a little bit of a high from it. It makes them feel overly important or something.

TH3BUDDHA replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYou're really having a tough time comprehending this, so I'll try to help you out a bit. 34 units is not a significant amount, no. But 34 X 10 is 340. Keeping up? 34 X 100 is 3400. If we continue to let NIMBYs like yourself cause every development to be reduced, it will add up very quickly. For how close you are to downtown in our main entertainment area near the Convention Center and Arena District, this is unacceptable. You say you understand, but then make arguments that any suburban person would make. You own a home near downtown in a city that was historically pretty quiet. That is quickly changing and you are being left behind. It's time for you to accept that change or move to an area that you are more comfortable with.

Columbus: Victorian Village Developments and News
TH3BUDDHA replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionPreferring a parking lot over a new building is pretty anti development IMO. Home values have exploded in these trendy areas because of the desire to be near the Short North. So, I'm not sure what these homeowners are complaining about. It seems that they liked how quiet it used to be and are now opposing development. They need to realize that they live near downtown in one of the trendiest areas, possibly in the midwest. If they don't like that, it's time to capitalize on their increased home value, sell, and move to a quiet suburb.

Columbus: Downtown: AC Hotel - Park & Spruce
Cool. I know that when the article came out announcing the start of the Chipotle project, it mentioned that it was part of a bigger expansion of the Arena District including other lots in the area and along Spring St, so I wasn't sure if that meant the lot by Kilbourne. It'll be interesting to see if anything pops up over on those Spring St lots soon.

Are there any plans for the lot east of the Chipotle phase happening now, between Kilbourne and Armstrong?

TH3BUDDHA replied to JohnOSU99's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAre these being marketed to families or people without children? There are all these nice new townhomes being built here and condos in Italian Village, but I can't imagine that the people who can afford to buy them will be sending their children to Columbus Public Schools. How does that work? Also, what actually is the price point on these?

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Columbus one of two choices for $5B cloud tech company headquarters Swiss-based Veeam Software Corp. has narrowed its choice for a new headquarters to its two largest U.S. offices in Columbus and suburban Atlanta, its CEO said. Each office has more than 300 employees, making up about half Veeam's U.S. workforce. CEO Bill Largent is in Columbus and CFO Chuck Garner is in Alpharetta. Both regions offer a wealth of college graduates for recruiting, Largent said. ... Insight Partners, a New York City venture capital and private equity firm that specializes in software, announced this month it's acquiring Veeam for $5 billion and moving headquarters away from Baar, Switzerland. TH3BUDDHA replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI know you haven't actually done the interview yet, but during your quick contact, were you able to get a feeling of whether they are looking to get this rolling quickly or if this is some far off thing down the line? I'm wondering if we're going to see a bit of "keeping up with the Joneses" as Polaris and Bridge Park are building up.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
I remember they said that the time to pull the trigger would be 8.8 million passengers per year or 2028, whichever came first. So, we should hit that next year. It's nice to see we're about 7 years ahead of schedule from when they first started talking about the new terminal. I wonder, will they want a couple of years at that number or will they pull the trigger as soon as they hit that number once?

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Wasn't sure where to put this, but it talks about growth in employers, so I'll put it here. Construction Dive's 'mini megacities' to watch: Columbus, Ohio When it comes to construction, Columbus, Ohio, is hot and getting hotter. For nearly a decade, the capital of the Buckeye State has enjoyed an influx of employers and residents that culminated in a year of construction like none other in the city’s history. Construction starts in the metropolitan area were estimated at $6 billion in 2019 — 18% more than the year before — and industry watchers say they could go even higher for 2020. The jobs driving this growth come from a range of well-known public and private sources: Ohio State University, Google, Facebook and corporate headquarters for companies like Victoria's Secret, Cardinal Health and Nationwide Insurance. ... I agree with this. The way he worded it will definitely not help his cause, though.

Gentrification News & Discussion
He says that "not everyone comes to our city with the spirit of being part of our city" and mentions new arrivals to neighborhoods that "were once waking up to gun shots and not alarm clocks." I'm confused at what he's saying there. I might be completely missing his point, but is he suggesting that you are only welcome if you take part in the spirit of "waking up to gun shots and not alarm clocks"?

Columbus: Hilltop Developments and News
TH3BUDDHA replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYea, dedicated lanes would definitely be the major step in that direction. Hopefully it's not just wishful thinking. Also, don't they want to figure out a way to connect all the way to Broad as part of the Olentangy Corridor transit study? Imagine how awesome it would be to have transit going north into the OSU Innovation District and then connecting to Broad St with CoverMyMeds and other tech companies in the area. Could be an awesome hub of tech and research. Nationwide Children's just announced a new gene therapy biofactory that will be going to the Innovation District as well.
