  1. Ok. What WOULD have made you happy with this project?
  2. There's nothing wrong with being critical of projects. There are a lot in Columbus that are huge disappointments(The Nicholas). I just don't think that this particular project warrants panic about the state of Columbus development. But, to each their own.
  3. Yea and Nashville's downtown buildings are just hotels to support all of the bachelorette parties. Most of their actual growth is in the burbs. Our city has grown faster despite their city limits being over twice the size of ours.
  4. How much square footage was lost from the first rendering to the last? Apparently it's not just decent, but one of the best in the country.
  5. I don't think we'll see High St as a rail corridor. They released that plan pretty recently looking at 5 corridors for dense development and transit. The corridors that went north from downtown were Riverside Dr and Cleveland Ave.
  6. Delaware's downtown was recognized as one 13 "Great Places in America" by the American Planning Association: 2 Central Ohio neighborhoods named among 13 'Great Places in America' The Short North Arts District and Delaware's historic downtown were bestowed the honor by the Chicago-based American Planning Association, along with neighborhoods, public spaces and streets in New York, Missouri, Arizona, Oklahoma, Massachusetts and Texas. article here: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/09/25/2-central-ohio-neighborhoods-named-among-13-great.html

  8. I agree. People are losing their minds over a few floors height decrease. Height looks cool, sure. But, it isn't necessary for a vibrant area and great street level foot traffic. Look at how well the Short North has done without height. Hell, it just was listed as one of 13 Great Neighborhoods in America by the American Planning Association: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/09/25/2-central-ohio-neighborhoods-named-among-13-great.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline
  9. Yea, just look at the Cleveland Sherwin Williams HQ and their recent public announcement.
  10. Hmm interesting. I know of one project that will be needing a lot of space soon. The new OSU medical tower. At 840 beds, it will be massive. Maybe there were some rumors swirling around about that and some different bids from architects? And just to clarify, the only thing I've heard of a "700 foot tower" was that comment on CU. A person that I talked to that said big things are happening had heard nothing about it.
  11. Yes, a 700 foot building would be the new tallest building in Columbus. There is a very high chance that the user on CU was just blowing smoke. I read that comment a while back and thought it was bs. However, I only became interested when I heard more similar comments recently from other people. Not necessarily about a 700 foot tower. Just that there are rumblings of "big things happening" for the CBD.
  12. Possibly. I don't know. I do know that they plan to put a cap over 70 heading into the Brewery District within the next few years as part of the 70/71 work. I would imagine any open lot fronting High St would be pretty valuable to develop. I'm no development expert by any means, though.
  13. The real reason Millenial Tower has been delayed so long? Increased to 700 feet? ?
  14. Yea, I definitely agree that we will be seeing more 20+ story ones popping up.
  15. Interesting, I didn't realize it was all residential.
  16. My interpretation is that this is what these kinds of comments are suggesting. I've spoken to somebody that says the city and OSU are in major talks with many large companies trying to draw them here. OSU wants some large companies nearby to send students to. They also were looking for somebody to anchor their innovation district and got really close with Apple that went to Austin.
  17. I came across an interesting comment in the comments section of a CU article: When asked, the user said that this is different than any of the known projects, such as North Market, Hilton, and Millenial. When pressed a bit further, all he responded with was this: The only reason I find this comment interesting is that I've heard similar cryptic messages of "big things happening" from about 3 or 4 different people now without much further information. What are your guys' thoughts on this? Do you think there is any merit to comments like this? Think we're finally going to be seeing some major skyline alteration to the extent of some of the other boom towns? Here's the article the comment was on: https://www.columbusunderground.com/commission-approves-hilton-hotel-expansion-bw1#disqus_thread
  18. Why do you think it never will? It's still a pretty prime spot for development, no?
  19. Speaking of High and Main, did anything ever come of the lease dispute over the Main Bar building?
  20. I don't get it. Is it an ego thing? Do they just like feeling powerful that they are able to halt a big developer from doing something? I don't see any other explanation for trying to save that.
  21. Looks to be a pretty big Cleveland booster based on post history. Probably one of those "Columbus isn't a real city" people when they hear about Columbus' success, which would explain the "Haha" response. It seems like this site in general seems to be very pro-Cleveland and a bit anti-Columbus. Also seems to be the case on the Ohio subreddit. Heck, just recently, this post was on reddit with a bunch of upvotes: Having lived in both Cleveland and Columbus, this kind of mentality seems outdated. That might just be me, though. With all of the upcoming confirmed projects and rumblings of some big things in the works, over the next decade, it might finally become painfully obvious how well Columbus is doing and impossible to question it anymore.
  22. City council has already created the entity that will own the stadium. That wasn’t supposed to happen until the deal was done. The fact that it has happened means that the deal is close enough that they were comfortable going forward. Makes me feel better about it.
  23. Columbus 2020 has now been rebranded to One Columbus and has new goals to fulfill.
  24. Spill the beans! Haha Just kidding. But seriously......... In all seriousness, I've heard comments like this from several people. Very exciting.
  25. I'm gonna be honest, I get pretty jealous of the amount of conversation in their threads. I wish we had more of that in the Columbus threads to satisfy my impatience. Lol. I'm also jealous of the amount of seemingly well connected people they have commenting.
