  1. Ah, so the plan all along was for Millennial Tower to be a senior living community for millennials.
  2. Cool, it passed. Now, we can stop bickering about stupid things and go back to bickering about really important things, like how this means Central Ohio is clearly the best.
  3. It's the way you go about discussion. I'd love to talk about it. But, I think the situation is probably a little more complicated than "evil Republicans hate America", but that's the only thing you came here to say. I'd like to actually hear opinions on why they have changed like this, because I honestly don't know. People keep bringing up climate change. I'm unsure what that has to do with the CHIPS act getting passed. Did Democrats add climate change stuff to the bill or what?

  5. Those bridges really need to go. They look absolutely horrible next to the new Broad St bridge when driving down 71. They really stick out like sore thumbs.

  7. I mean, didn't those neighborhoods just suffer population decline as a result of flight to the suburbs, resulting in deterioration of the neighborhoods? Hard to force property owners to invest when you have a neighborhood filled with empty buildings. Tearing them down is just the alternative to maintaining an unoccupied building. It obviously sucks that we lost so much, but I can understand the reasoning if people didn't want to live there anymore.
  8. Why is it weird to see this in neighborhoods that have been neglected for decades? I wouldn't expect this to happen in German Village or Victorian Village because those buildings have constantly been maintained.
  9. Neglect it seems. In the story it says that an inspector was already in the area by coincidence. They were looking at another building when they heard the sounds coming from the building and called the fire department.

  11. This doesn't really mean much when you consider that every city has its desirable areas and undesirable areas. Just because you have people fighting over housing in a desirable area, it doesn't mean you don't still have tons of vacant, boarded up buildings in another area of town. It's possible that people are fleeing those undesirable areas in higher numbers than the desirable areas are gaining. I'm not saying that this is definitely what's happening. But, it is a possibility that would explain your scenario.

  13. I grew up in Grafton. It definitely would have been fun to have this as an option as a student at Ohio State.
  14. This assumes no stops, right? Are there not other stops along the route? Seems like a hard sell to rural Ohioans that will simply be bypassed entirely.
  15. There are a lot of "cans" and "shoulds" in that statement. Surely, the government has never overpromised and underdelivered. I'm also not sure how this route can be considered to be "shortening commute times" when we already know the projected travel time and driving up 71 will be faster.
  16. Do you have any source for the projected increase in tax base that this route would provide to the state? Isn't the state required to subsidize like $17 million in operating costs per year? As I said, I am in favor of this happening, but to act like it will have a significant impact is reaching pretty far in my opinion.
  17. And, I'm sure that you guys are quick to support things that will benefit rural Ohioans with no benefit to the cities? I see frequent complaints on here when projects go to rural areas, not to mention the "uneducated, redneck, racist" comments.
  18. The amount of construction in that area over the next 5 years is going to be astonishing.
  19. How will somebody in Appalachian Ohio in the south east part of the state benefit from a 3C route? The percentage of Ohioans that will use this route will be so low that this comment is laughable. This is coming from somebody that really wants rail in Ohio. But, come on. As essential as roads or water? It would take 100 years to build the rail infrastructure to match the road service we have.
  20. They're questioning the benefit of a route going right through their neighborhood. Is this really that different from discussions of light rail within cities, though? Obviously, those rural people will question a track passing right through their neighborhood if they aren't going to benefit, and not every small town it passes will have a stop. We have the same exact argument when discussing light rail within the metro. People want a quick route from destination points like Easton, the airport, or Bridge Park to downtown(specific to Columbus). But, you get pushback if the plan will go through low income neighborhoods and bypass them. And then, you lose a lot of the benefit of time saved if you have a ton of stops along the route. Not everything has to be such black and white "rural people bad."
