  1. Great pictures. You would think with all of the excitement surrounding this project Intel would milk that for all of its PR worth with more frequent updates with photos and video. (Just a suggestion) PS. 1500 cubic yards sounds like a lot, but does anyone know how many total CY's the site will consume when it's done?
  2. Did you see any sign of the rebar tied up by the steel workers?
  3. They better not wait too long to pour it because the Memorial Tournament is right around the corner and we all know it will bring a monsoon with it.
  4. With concrete starting to pour in earnest this month and with at least one of the slabs reportedly being a mind boggling 60 ft thick to eliminate vibrations in the manufacturing process. There's been radio silence from Intel so far but the steelworkers had to have been out there for multiple weeks to tie together the enormous amount of rebar needed for that much concrete. So things are really starting to heat up. Once the footers, foundations, and flooring get poured, then there's no stopping the workers from doing their jobs.
  5. Some on this board are better connected to actual developers than people like me. What is their aversion to building these towers? Financial? Not enough demand to fill the towers? I thought with Intel and all of the companies supporting them, the demand for housing would be so strong that a high rise(s) would seem to make sense. Maybe they will come, but not so far.
  6. I wonder how many of the 151 ranch homes will go to ordinary people looking for a nice place to live and how many will be bought up by Wall Street investment firms like BlackRock or another?
  7. I'm not crazy about some of the street names, but I guess they don't bother me that much. Piggybacking on some of the photos Luvcbus posted, I really can't wait for the real construction to get started with pouring concrete and the plumbing, electrical and steel work to start.
  8. To me what's even more exciting about the Breeze flight is we add a brand destination as this flight goes to John Wayne in Orange Co. I can't recall a flight to SNA from CMH. So great news all the way around. Hopefully this is a huge success and Breeze ups the frequency to daily.
  9. I hope I'm wrong but I'm beginning to get the feeling the new terminal will be delayed. How long who knows but Genzler's own timeline when they were chosen as the design team said they would have the design by the end of '22 with construction to start about a year later. We're already three months into the new year and crickets from Genzler. For all of you CMH historians this wouldn't be the first time grand plans for expansion were shelved due usually to the economy going south. While recreational air travel from CMH is inching up to precovid levels. business travel is still strongly lagging when compared to other cities of our size. Once again, I hope I'm wrong but I've been down this street before.
  10. Article in Bloomberg on what the real problem facing Intel is and some thing may not be able to overcome... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2023-03-09/worker-shortages-are-hurdle-for-52-billion-us-plan-to-boost-chip-manufacturing?srnd=economics-v2&leadSource=reddit_wall
  11. Any idea when they're going to start to pour concrete and begin the work to install all of the underground pipe and electric?
  12. I'm just a geek about this sort of thing. I wonder what something that large and heavy would be used for at the Intel site?
  13. So when do we use "Ohio One" and when do we use "Silicon Heartland" to describe things?
  14. I always thought one of the problems with the current CMH is airlines lease the gates and for the most part won't let any other airline use them. When you have an airline leasing more gates than they use or need, it reduces the number of gates available for another to expand or new airlines to enter the market, thus needing more gates than CMH uses.
  15. These fab numbers are constantly changing so I guess we'll never know until the final build out. The original number was 8 fabs with some talk from Gelsinger of maybe going to 10. Now, if you believe this speaker, the number was 3 which has been increased to 6 fabs. What happened to the 8 or 10 fabs?
  16. I pulled this off Reddit from someone who attended a press event where a spokesman from MA Design who is directly involved with the Intel project spoke. Peruse for yourself and comment if you feel like it. I watched a preso, given this week, by a business developer from MA Design, who is directly involved in the Intel project. The impact of the project and the amount of change that will happen, is even larger than I ever thought: *Intel is building 6 fabs; we thought we were getting 3 *There's not enough labor, in the entire state, for the project. Seven thousand are needed; just for reference, 1,500 pple were used to build lower.com. *Concerns center around parking/food/transport/porta potties for all 7K pple needed to build *They are making a $100M education investment, not just in colleges *The reason the location was chosen was due to ZERO seismic events, as even the smallest seismic event would prove catastrophic for production *This will be the ONLY chip plant like it, in the world *Chandler, AZ opened their first facility in 1980, when population was about 30K. This year, it's estimated to be over 273K. *Homes took longer to build in the 70s-80s, but we cannot afford to wait so we will see very rapid building. *Between Intel and the battery plant, counties as far as an hour's drive are preparing. *The avg salary will be $130K F*or each job Intel creates, it will create 13 more, based on supply needs. *THERE WILL BE A NEW AIRPORT! *We will continue to have JGlenn but the Columbus airport authority will be building a new one, directly near it, then tear down the old one. *There plans for rail service, using the rail system under the Convention Center, that will have service to Cleve/Cincy/Cols and Dayton ("Three Cs and a D", they called it) *The train will have a car portal! *Our rail lines were, apparently, not allowed to have passenger rail but have been deregulated to allow it. No timeframe was given. *They said the impact will be so huge, we'll be known as "Central Ohio", and not just "Columbus".
  17. Holiday email IntelOhio sent everyone. Nothing earth shattering, but it does confirm some timelines for us. https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Happy-Holidays-and-Happy-New-Year-.html?soid=1106688890457&aid=wCuMrsqSgnE
  18. With the announcement that the North Market Tower and Grandview Crossing will receive the state tax credits, does this mean the Peninsula Tower is dead in the water? I believe this is the second go around for the credits and both times the Peninsula missed out.
  19. All I know is I'm going to be an old, old man by the time this is finished.
  20. I got off 161 at Mink and then turned left at Green Chapel I believe. I went down to Beech and headed back to 161. For some reason, one of the things I was impressed with was the chain link fence. Hopefully, some local fencing company made some serious coin off of that.
  21. I was back in town this weekend and before I left I wanted to drive up and see the Intel site. CbusOrBust is right, for all of the earth moved, there isn't much to see thanks to the mounding by the fence. I was kind of looking forward to watching this thing grow out of the ground into something spectacular, but it looks like all we'll get to see are New Albany or Intel produced videos from time to time.
  22. I know next to nothing about semiconductor chips. Will Micron and Intel be direct competitors or will they each be aiming for different markets?
