New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm thinking families with children won't want to have anything to do with the Northland area.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
You're right about needing more philanthropic billionaires. Les is pretty far down the back nine and Abigail seems content with being on local boards. Plus, I don't know if his children even live in the city anymore. We definitely need more people who can write big checks.

This is such a bull s**t reply. I was half joking when I posted my comment, but if Musk announced tomorrow he was moving Twitters HQ to Columbus, everyone would be doing backflips up and down High Street and you know it.

If I'm NAI, my first call would be to Elon Musk to see if he wants to move Twitter HQ to a new dynamic city away from Loony Tunes California.

John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm surprised Turner or Smoot didn't get a piece of this. EDIT: I didn't read the whole notice about more subcontractors being announced later

Columbus: Random Development and News
John7165 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom the March CRAA meeting minutes. "Taxiway C Relocation design services are underway. 30% design documents were received in January and are being reviewed by staff and stakeholders. Construction is planned for the 2023 season. This project will be funded primarily by an FAA AIP grant." It sounds like, at least according this, the taxiway relocation should be started and completed during the 2023 season.

John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't care, I'm reading all of them. In a couple of months, the real work begins with grading of the site and then the foundation work will start. By next spring, the "Chips Act" should have passed and Gelsinger might order several more fabs. It will be incredible to see.

CRAA has released the minutes for May. Bullet points for the meeting are few this month, but there were a couple of takeaways * All of the renown architectural firms submitted bids but Gensler stood out due to their commitment to business diversity and use of local talent, Moody-Nolan being at the top of the list. * There will be 7 distinct phases in constructing the new terminal with each phase requiring board approval before continuing to the next. * LCK reported a softening of the cargo market due to retailers having replenished their shelves. * Passenger traffic at CMH and LCK has remained elevated which bodes well going into the summer travel * The new Escape Lounge in B concourse near gate 32 is expected to be completed this fall

John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionMy brother-in-law has a company that does this. It goes back to the clean Water Act signed into law by George H W Bush which stipulates a company can develop in a known wetlands area but those wetlands have to be replaced 2 for 1 in the same watershed. What Intel is doing is SOP for developers. If Intel is going to disturb roughly 14 acres, they'll have to buy 28 acres in "credits" from a mitigation party.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHow the area between New Albany, Granville, Newark, and south and north of there develops is going to be remarkable to see. It will be almost like building a new large city from scratch. Where do you put the houses, condos, and apartments? Where do the supporting commercial areas go? Mass transit? Schools? The number of fabs being 10 was initially thrown out in the early days, but quickly 8 became the accepted target number. I thought the 10 number was maybe hyperbole on some level, but if Gelsinger is bringing that number up himself, then maybe that is his ultimate goal. WOW.

John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAn article from a trade magazine called Site Selection discussing the benefits of Intel's decision and the long term effect it will have on Central Ohio. I was going to bullet point it but it will be better to just go ahead and read it for yourself. https://siteselection.com/issues/2022/mar/the-rise-of-the-silicon-heartland.cfm

Columbus: Random Development and News
John7165 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSometimes I think we get carried away with the impact sports teams have on a city from a national perspective. When I travel and go out to a bar after work, I make it a point to talk hockey with some stranger and then ask them have they ever heard of the CBJ. Rarely do they say yes. In fact, they usually give me a befuddled look. Does Jacksonville having a NFL team or OKC having the Thunder or Indy having two teams impress you so much you want to pack your bags and move there? I'm glad we have the CBJ and Crew and would love a MLB or NFL team, but I'm not sure people from around the country would change their minds that much about the perception of our fair city.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
One of the rumors from a couple of years ago thought the Wolfe's wanted to make one last splash for Columbus and build a signature building on that corner. Ohio Health was looking for a new home and certainly had the workforce to fill a hi-rise, but they chose a suburban location so like a lot of rumors floating around about our downtown, it vanished into the night.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThanks for the reply. I'm wondering if the delay is a result of one or both sides loading it up with non related spending which gives the other side pause or even finds unacceptable. I guess we'll find out.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
John7165 replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionA little different topic, but I was wondering what the status of the "Chips Act" HR 7178 was since any additional fabs being constructed hinged on the passage of that legislation. I called up my rep and his aide told me it was referred to one of the science and technology subcommittees in 2020 and there hasn't been any movement since. Does anyone have additional info on this because if the 2020 date is accurate, it seems like it might have stalled?
