Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
If I were to guess, the fact that the previous table lists "Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor, OH MSA" and the new one lists "Cleveland, OH MSA" is pretty telling that its an Ashtabula Co update. The MSA name changed when Ashtabula was added. US labor participation rate is ~62%. 62% of Ashtabula's 97k population is 60k. Probably less because I'm guessing it's an older county so less people in the labor force. Labor force increased by about 50k between tables. Boom. Just guessing lol

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
Apartments? Yes this is "it" for now (600+ apartments was the count I think!). But Great Lakes Brewing Company has something cooking for that overgrown land in the far right of the photograph on the river! https://neo-trans.blog/2025/02/14/great-lakes-brewing-ids-scranton-peninsula-project/

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
I got you covered 🤗 not much crazy new info though “Starting this week, we’ll be demolishing that building, reopening Cedar Road and beginning the work of rebuilding as quickly as possible,” Seren said. City officials issued a demolition order three days after firefighters from 16 departments were called in to battle the blaze Developers on the $66 million project, which was 75% complete, remain committed to rebuilding the rest of the complex once the site is cleared. As part of the original development agreement, Flaherty & Collins Properties are required to do so, through an agreed upon "personal guarantee" of completion.

Cleveland: Population Trends
https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/03/one-greater-cleveland-county-is-among-ohios-big-gainers-in-population.html One Greater Cleveland county is among Ohio’s big gainers in population "While the four fastest growing counties in Ohio since the last census are in the Columbus and Cincinnati areas, one county from Greater Cleveland is close behind, according to new population estimates released last week by the U.S. Census Bureau. Lorain County ranks fifth in the state, picking up an estimated 9,049 residents since April 2020, reaching 322,030, the new estimates say. This includes a gain of 2,867 in just the last year - from July 2023 to July 2024"

NASA Headquarters Relocation
https://www.crainscleveland.com/politics-policy/ohio-wants-nasa-hq-move-nasa-glenn Ohio's biggest biz leaders join push to bring NASA HQ to Cleveland TL;DR: 26 business-related co-signers urged the White House and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman “to relocate NASA Headquarters from the D.C. Beltway to the Buckeye State Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP), JobsOhio, Team NEO, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and organizations representing the state's biggest cities, including Columbus, Cincinnati, Sandusky, Canton and Dayton "Florida gets a lot of the publicity, but their facility, Kennedy Space Center, is principally for launches. It's not where the technologies that are going up in space or needed to explore space that happens here,” said Baiju Shah, president and CEO of GCP Ohio also has critical national defense centers, a group of research laboratories, a range of colleges and universities with science and engineering programs and a statewide network of global aerospace businesses, the letter says. The state is home to more than 170 individual NASA suppliers and is the largest supplier to both Boeing and Airbus, Shah notes. The region also is home to a number of flagship aeronautic companies: Parker Hannifin, GE Aerospace and suppliers such as TransDigm Group Inc., Voss Industries and Howmet Aerospace, to name a few. Team NEO, Dolan said, is not just sending letters, but creating a larger plan for why Ohio is the best alternative to D.C. GCP is working with elected officials to show support while Team NEO is putting together a list of available sites for companies to locate and incentive programs available in the state, Dolan said. “We are talking to our higher ed partners and looking to the City of Cleveland and the county of Cuyahoga,” Dolan said. “This is the opportunity for Northeastern Ohio to speak with one coordinated voice to attract NASA headquarters here.” JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef is optimistic that NASA Glenn is a viable option for a possible new HQ because the state has seen so much growth in the federal, defense, and aerospace industries and a surge in critical defense infrastructure growth. "There is a growing list of new-to-Ohio companies, like Joby Aviation, Anduril Industries, and Ursa Major, that supports the work NASA is doing,” Nauseef said. Regardless of if this happens or not, IMO at least Dolan is using TeamNEO correctly - proactively working with local officials, universities, and the region to find sites for the ancilliary companies that would want to be near NASA HQ. It gives me hope they'll start doing this more for other projects as well.

Cleveland: Superior Arts District: Development and News
Refocusing to Cleveland before this becomes a thread about Columbus projects: E 22nd is the first local bridge redo of the Innerbelt project (Contract group 3) which will help reconnect Central to downtown. Contract groups 4 and 5 will redo the entire trench and every bridge over I-90 (Lakeside, St. Clair, Superior, Payne, Euclid). At the very least, they should redo each bridge like E 22nd with bike/ped infrastructure. But those contract groups are at least a decade away, so plenty of time to advocate for wider bridges and caps with buildings! My thought is that because its going to be a while before the innerbelt project makes its way up to Superior, the midway will already be done by then and since the bike lanes will be in the middle, all the more reason to add buildings off the sidewalks as y'all have suggested. The timing could really work out here if done right.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Don't trust anything that's not actual census-year data from census.gov. Not even census bureau's data is consistent when you look at in-between yearly estimates depending on what source you use. Cuyahoga County: From Census Bureau's data.census.gov ACS 2023 1-year = 1,233,088 ACS 2023 5-year = 1,249,418 From Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 posted by cbussoccer 2023 = 1,238,679 Anyways, it's all a mess. All that matters is 2030 actual numbers

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
We need to put ourselves out there. If it does end up happening and we lose out to another region because we didn't put our best foot forward - no matter the economic/federal circumstances - we'll be back on this forum in 2028 pointing fingers again asking "why didn't we try harder to land NASA's HQ, our local leaders suck". If it doesn't end up happening, no harm no foul. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Fox8 video has an actual interview with Baiju Shah of Greater Cleveland Partnership supporting the proposal, so that's one local development arm we know is on board. Other than the end units yes I think that's right. The only reason I can think of design-wise for that is that it leaves room to vertically expand the parking garage in the middle in the future

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
There has certainly been interest for a while on both sides of the aisle to decentralize certain parts of the government to help boost other regions of the US. While I'm personally not a fan of the administration defunding several key functions of the government, it's nice to see local leaders proactively marketing the region by identifying our local aerospace assets and getting support to drive interest as Ohio being a low-cost-of-doing-business alternative to DC (I'll be honest - in times like these, at least Moreno is a NEO-inclined senator). Biased as my opinion is, I think Cleveland would be a great choice. Rocketry infrastructure makes sense on the coasts (Canaveral, Vandenberg) but corporate makes sense to put near R&D and Glenn has to be one of the most prolific R&D sites in the entire NASA system. Texas and Florida ofc have their own merits too though.
