https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/northeast-ohio-poised-data-center-expansions Northeast Ohio poised for data center boom as developers eye region TL;DR Northeast Ohio is likely to see increased data center construction as demand for these power-hungry, often massive developments continues to rise While much of the existing data center development has been in the central and southern parts of the state, those in the know say it also will spread north "We’ve certainly seen a lot of activity in terms of active groups running site selections in Summit and Stark, up into Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties,” said David Stecker, also a Cleveland managing director for JLL Gregory says Ohio has joined Texas, Virginia, and Georgia as one of the top four states for data center developments. He doesn’t see that trend changing, and neither do others, who say Ohio, including Northeast Ohio, is becoming a new hot spot for projects As for interest moving north with in the state, Stecker said it has increased in the last 12 months: “It’s similar in nature to what the Columbus area was seeing a few years ago.” Global data center development will need $170 billion in financing just in 2025 to keep up with demand for construction created by artificial intelligence and other types of data centers. With its land, labor, power supply, and infrastructure, he predicts Northeast Ohio is likely to be invited of the party And I can imagine it wouldn't hurt that Eaton just acquired a data center builder as well: https://www.crainscleveland.com/manufacturing/eaton-buy-data-center-builder-fibrebond-14b Eaton to acquire data-center builder for $1.4 billion

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
Roadway engineer here! 👋 lol The useful lifespan of a typical concrete roadway before repairs are needed is about 25 years give or take. For the bus lanes at least, those are heavy BRT buses frequently stopping and starting which can certainly wear out the concrete quicker. Also, looking at the various manholes at Euclid Ave intersections it seems they were not set correctly leading to extensive cracking and sinking you can even see from Google Maps. Not a smooth ride. Patching them up doesn't really help much. If it was constructed 17 years ago then I'd say it's time to seriously consider reconstruction beginning no later than 5 years from now - given the state of it currently it wouldn't hurt to get started sooner. That being said, while full depth concrete is MUCH more expensive than asphalt, only the bus pads are required to be concrete. I'd recommend redoing all of Euclid Ave as asphalt with concrete pads at the stations only - this will reduce costs and as MyPhoneDead said, would be easier to maintain and replace, even though the lifespan of asphalt is only about 15 years. Then, the bus lanes should be painted as they are in Richmond, VA (concrete pad outlined in blue, the rest is asphalt). This should help deter drivers from driving in the bus lanes somewhat as well.

Not necessarily giving the benefit of the doubt, but curious if they wait to do general road clean up until spring once snow season is over?

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
https://www.crainscleveland.com/economy/advanced-manufacturing-dominated-new-team-neo-projects-2024 Advanced manufacturing dominated NEO economic development growth in 2024 TL;DR Of the 125 business projects Team NEO completed in 2024 — marking a record year for the 14-county Northeast Ohio region JobsOhio network partner — 64 fall under the advanced manufacturing category In total, the business growth supported by Team NEO last year is expected to create 3,848 new jobs, representing $253.3 million in annual payroll and $1.1 billion in capital investment. Team NEO has consistently driven around 30% of the state’s new economic development since 2015, which translates into more than 56,000 new jobs, $3 billion in annual payroll, and $15 billion in capital investment. The report showed that Cuyahoga County made up nearly one-third (40) of last year’s total projects, followed by Stark and Summit counties, which had 17 and 14 completed deals, respectively. In 2024, Team NEO and Northeast Ohio led the state in small business grants. The program awarded 57 last year and 178 since its inception in 2019. Although the grants are small compared to the bulk of the economic development projects JobsOhio funds, Team NEO’s small business support created 1,000 new jobs here.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Here here! I always try to do a self-guided tour of city development whenever I have a weekend day off but I've always thought it be cool to get a small group together that just goes around to every corner of the city (within reason) to photograph stuff and ride public transit where possible. Maybe that's just a pipe dream, but would probably be more fun than driving my car around alone lol

I certainly wouldn't mind Cleveland becoming the hub for women's sports in the state

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Is ANYONE lobbying the state to get CSU more funding? Or is that not how it works. A recent Crain's piece talked about how OSU and UC get a disparate majority of the state's funding to our detriment. Imagine what our downtown could look like if it got a boost from funding and a student population twice as large.

Me (in 40 years)! 🥳 I tease. I've been trying to find Omni presentations or documents through city planning, etc. but am having trouble for some reason. Maybe they just aren't enough along yet but I know they've had city meetings about it within the past year so it's definitely still in the works.

Orange Village: Pinecrest
Yeah this site is equidistant (within 2-3 miles) of Painesville, Avon, and downtown Akron. Seems pretty central for the Cleveland CSA. But back to the actual developments...

In case anyone wanted a better combined visualization of the two projects (parcels outlined in pink): Also, I'm gonna reopen a can of worms and say that the remaining area south of Harvard not owned by Omni would be a perfect location for, say it with me, IKEA

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
^"Cleveland’s South Gateway Stadium offers an ideal setting for Women’s Elite Rugby,” says Jessica Hammond-Graf, President of Women’s Elite Rugby. “The venue’s flexible design and 10,000-seat capacity will create an intimate yet exciting atmosphere for our fans. With Cleveland’s growing support for women’s sports, this stadium provides the perfect platform for Women’s Elite Rugby to expand its reach and foster new opportunities for female athletes.” Does this mean we could also get a WER team in the future?! https://www.womenseliterugby.us/

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
Ahh here we go Trigger warning: the video is pretty thorough in the fly through, but the skyline in the background provides almost no context for the orientation of the stadium because it's not the real skyline lol Video and photos on WKYC: https://www.wkyc.com/article/sports/soccer/cleveland-soccer-group-stadium-downtown-cleveland-2026-south-gateway/95-1efa921e-ee1a-4354-b191-398c38e597c8

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
Look I get that on these threads we like talking about various options for sites for projects and certainly considering options for sites is important, but this is a site CSG and the Metroparks have collaborated on for a while now and chosen and paid for and that's where it's being built. I recommend we should focus on discussing the plan as-presented and not hypotheticals that won't happen, unless this entire project implodes and they do need to choose a new site. For developers who are clearly invested in the city (unlike others cough cough), I'm sure they've been intentional about choosing their site otherwise they wouldn't've gotten this far.

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
Same! I could not find any other press releases or renderings at the moment. Since the stadium will be smaller, I could envision an RTA station being part of a second "expansion" phase once the initial infrastructure is there and being used. Could be less risk to do so as well once we see traffic/ped patterns in South Gateway

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
We're so back lol Sounds like a stadium is on the way, just in a slightly smaller and easily-constructible form: https://www.crainscleveland.com/sports-recreation/cleveland-soccer-group-plans-50m-downtown-stadium Cleveland Soccer Group unveils $50M downtown stadium plan, new women's team TL;DR CSG is moving ahead with plans to build a $50 million, 10,000-seat South Gateway soccer stadium that could open as soon as summer 2026 If approved, the stadium will serve as the home field for both teams Murphy said details about the women’s team will be announced in the coming weeks. Both teams will begin play in 2026 Official team names, colors, kits, and timelines will be announced in the coming months “It can go up in a year,” Murphy said of the stadium. “We may have to play some games away early, or find an interim site, but we think we can be open and playing soccer in the new downtown stadium right after the World Cup (in July) next year" Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas (7,000 seats) and Grand Rapids, Michigan (8,500 seats) have recently built MLS Next Pro stadiums “If another league said, ‘We need you to get to 17,000 (seats),’ that could be phased in." CSG expects the stadium to host more than 60 annual events. In addition to the men’s and women’s soccer games, it will be designed to host a variety of high school and college events, as well as community celebrations and concerts Cleveland State University, St. Edward High School and St. Ignatius High School have all expressed interest in hosting events at the stadium, Murphy said, and the organization has also spoken to organizations such as U.S. Soccer, the Mid-American Conference and Cleveland Municipal School District’s Senate League about hosting opportunities When asked if the new women’s professional team would rule out a future bid for an NWSL team, Murphy said, “The league we’re going with would enhance any type of future bid and would position us and make us even stronger"

Of course, I was referring to "construction" as the realization of the project, not imminent construction. Unclear wording lol

Omg I totally forgot to post this: underground utility staking flags are dotting the entire area at the site of the new UH Wolstein Conference Center on Euclid which could be a good sign for construction (from 03/01) KJP's article: https://neo-trans.blog/2024/08/26/uh-plans-wolstein-conference-center-on-euclid-ave/

https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/03/demolition-timetable-for-old-cuyahoga-county-juvenile-center-wont-delay-innerbelt-work.html Demolition timetable for old Cuyahoga County juvenile center won’t delay Innerbelt work Turns out, YES fancy road/bridge redo 😉: "Construction on an array of projects from East Ninth Street to Carnegie Avenue is still on target to begin in spring 2026, an ODOT spokesperson said." The Central interchange project timetable, or Innerbelt Modernization Program contract Group 3A is still looking at a 2032 completion but still in the works. It appears as though the bridge and roadway upgrades surrounding the site described in the article are the first part of that contract group before the interchange upgrades occur and are moving forward.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
I forgot to mention this earlier but as of the weekend there was also clearing and grubbing happening and heavy machinery being assembled at the top of Eagle Ave just off Ontario. I assume of course for the reconstruction of the Eagle Ave connection down to the Cavs facility. A bit jarring at first to see some of the overgrown weeds and plants on the river-facing side of Ontario gone lol
