Ahhh yes the billboard., that would makes total sense Well if that's the case, silver lining: I suppose that means we're one step closer to demolishing the monstrosity at Detroit and W25th lol

Is there a planning document for FEB that can be referenced regarding the various phases? From what I could tell the location of the drilling machine was not on a developable plot of land (essentially on the Lake House restaurant property) so I'm curious what it's doing in that particular spot and not say, the large surface lot in between FEB and the Aloft...

Second that. I know it's winter but the whole area around the airport is so.... bleh. There's no reason the IX Center needs to exist. Not only would moving all shows to the LITERAL CONVENTION CENTER benefit downtown Cleveland business even further but it would as Willo said also free up so much space. Oh, and someone needs to get on the phone about repaving 237, smh

Anyone know why there's a massive drilling machine in the roundabout in the FEB?

Very true. It was more a suggestion since this is somewhat of a Cavs/Clinic-specific project if felt kind of removed from the rest, but I could see why not

(03/01) The brick paves on the pier drive at Voinovich Park are half complete and looking real nice. Also, new lighting all along the pier is mostly installed - a much needed refresh. Things are starting to come together… I wanted to get up to the rock hall for photos but I had to dip before the parking ticketer found my car lol 👀

Closest I could get without arousing suspicion (03/01). Two clear elevator shafts rising. Also, does it make sense for this building to have its own thread? Anywho…

Quick update (03/01): drove past today, still no visible site work or mobilization - spring 2025 was when the dev team said we’d start to see visible construction progress so maybe something to keep an eye on over the next month or two

I'm most curious what "secret" 1,000 ac parcel Dolan described is being assembled in Lorain Co. From the site finder in Team NEO website, the only one I can think that somewhat matches the description are Beacon Park N and S parcels next to the correctional facility in Grafton, which when combined total 650 ac. Could end up being a desirable megasite if promoted aggressively, as Beacon Park and the Intel campus are both about 25 mi driving distance from downtown Cleveland and Columbus, respectively. Plus Lorain Co is one of the faster growing counties in the metro. Maybe this is a site to keep an eye on...

The Watterson Lake project is an interesting conundrum to me. I'm 100% for it (we desperately need more affordable housing), but as someone who doesn't live in the neighborhood it's interesting and sobering to hear the community's discourse and comments regarding the scope and scale of the project. To their credit they want to see the project built - just not in its current form. I feel that some of their concerns are valid regarding the public realm, especially the park. The concerns about the traffic I feel are not warranted - and that was mostly proven by further questioning. It's going to be really interesting to see how it progresses from here because it appears that the RFP from the city and the competitive state tax credits awarded mean it's almost impossible to reduce the actual capacity/units of the project without losing some funding. Trying to maintain the number of units while also expanding the public park space to something better than a glorified pocket park as almost everyone who commented wants to do is quite a tall order given the site layout. Trott mentioned maybe going even higher on Detroit rather than the current uniform 5 story building and I'm inclined to agree. Stepping back would force a taller Detroit frontage which I certainly wouldn't complain about. The question is that would a taller building fly with the community? I'm not sure. It certainly could increase costs even further. It was made abundantly clear that commission members are concerned that projects like this in historic neighborhoods are getting to the third+ time addressing landmarks and there are still concerns from the community about the project. Maybe it's their own fault, maybe it can be attributed to NIMBYism masquerading as "neighborhood progress but only if it meets the status quo", maybe there are some procedural issues with the way RFPs are handled and then landmarks is forced to arbitrate whether the RFP meets "community guidelines". I'm not sure. Word vomit over. Interesting stuff to consider.

https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/02/can-northeast-ohio-sell-itself-new-team-neo-chief-matt-dolan-says-swing-at-the-pitch-thats-coming.html Can Northeast Ohio sell itself? New Team NEO chief Matt Dolan says ‘Swing at the pitch that’s coming’ A couple interesting tidbits from an otherwise puff piece interview that "we need to do better" and that "change is coming": “We also have the opportunity to get bigger companies,” Dolan said. “We do have one mega site in Lorain County. So, we are getting that ready.” He declined to specify the location of the site – “that’s for another day” – but he said it involved more than 1,000 acres. Setting up a meeting with the heads of the area hospital systems to explore the potential creation of manufacturing jobs tied to the medical field.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
BOOOOO! All jokes. It's certainly impressive in scale to take in but it's a fair criticism. I think if they were to build a similar sized high rise at the corner of Warrensville and Chagrin on that Phase 3 gravel lot or whatever they've designating it, it might fit in better to scale.
