Westlake: Crocker Park
Well when you consider Crocker Park is the 5th best retail experience destination in the US as of last year and nowhere else in Ohio made the Top 5 list... it makes a whole lot of sense. https://www.wkyc.com/article/life/shopping/crocker-park-westlake-top-retail-center-united-states/95-833027fa-720f-494b-81d2-54cb91b6eb60#:~:text=Westlake's Crocker Park was named, engagement and overall visitor experience.

Cleveland / Northeast Ohio: "What If/Hypothetical/Dream" Construction and Projects Discussion
^Apologies if this is the wrong thread but this RTA proposal resurfacing begs the question: any updates on phase 2/3 of INTRO?

Ah yes, starting a trend of changing the name of every development in the city to "Skyline ____" 😄

CLEVELAND UrbanOhio September Meet Up - Fri, Sept 27 at 5:30 at Masthead Brewery (1261 Superior Avenue)
Unfortunately I think I'm in the same boat as ColDayMan. Cbus traffic is terrible right now and I don't think I can make it up safely leaving right after work in speedy time for the event :/

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
I think the newest Crain's article may answer some of our funding questions? https://www.crainscleveland.com/politics-policy/cleveland-metroparks-gets-14-million-federal-grants "The larger, nearly $11 million grant will be added to about $32 million in matching funds for the construction of plazas, boardwalk, an amphitheater, and both picnic and play areas as part of the Irishtown Bend park." "The entire project, a collaboration with the Port of Cleveland Metroparks, LAND Studio, the city of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, is expected to cost between $40 million and $45 million" "We are just starting the bulkhead installation, which we think is about a 12- to 18-month phase,” said Will Friedman, the port's president and CEO. “We are looking forward to finishing the stabilization and allowing the Metroparks to begin work on the park." My read on this is that the $10.8 ($11) mil grant just received is on top of $32 mil in funding for the park. Given that, they're at $43 million in funding which means they're basically fully funded. Maybe someone has a better educated guess? Also, a 12-18 month timeline on bulkhead installation means they would start park construction sometime between September and December 2025 at earliest - for comparison the stated target for park groundbreaking was August 2025.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
I say we run an UO Kickstarter with a goal of $15 mil, and for our generous donation we get a single park bench dedicated with all our names on it 😆

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
So as of @KJP's April article, stabilization was fully funded and $19/45 mil was secured for the park. With this additional funding the park now is at least $29/45 mil, let's say two thirds. Has there been other funding reported on that's come through or at they still ~$15 mil short?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Only tangentially related, and maybe there's a better thread for this, but are there any plans to repave Euclid? The current state of the road serving the BRT seems abysmal... granted I've only driven myself down Euclid recently but I can imagine it isn't much better for the buses. It really does need repaved from Public Square all the way to 105th - I'd guess it would make for an overall better Healthline experience in general but who knows if its worth it.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
It's still not *great* and they clearly did the bare minimum to make changes to the facade, but I suppose this version with extended brick and no white on the front-facing facade is something I'm more willing to get behind. The extension of the brick arches along the base and up to the fifth story of the building makes sense and gives some added continuity I suppose.

And dev team said they would return in a month (Oct 15th meeting) for (I'm assuming) schematic approval.

Could someone post a reminder of what this project looks like/where?

Cleveland: University Circle: Circle Square
Great to see people are looking at and sharing the Wikipedia page! I've spent a lot of time cleaning it up and adding in all the updated building photos and information, and it is definitely cool to see all the new buildings lined up next to each other. In fact I was just making edits to the proposed buildings today, adding in East Stokes per KJP's article :)

Cleveland: Population Trends
Somewhat important population update! Data.census.gov just released ACS 1-year data for 2023 last week, and I wanted to make everyone aware that Cleveland GAINED (estimation of course) population from 2022 to 2023, roughly 1,000 new residents!!! *Note: No ACS 1-year 2020 data for decennial census year. With an overall INCREASE in metro population from 2010 to 2020 and the city finally turning it's population loss around, things are looking positive for 2030. Also, I'll link my public spreadsheet again that y'all can use to see my population data analysis on a neighborhood/census tract level to answer those questions posted above. Census tracts are only done ACS 5-year, and that data will be released in December, at which time I will load the 2023 data into the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11ovx4ec51yi0-9dkKlnQHqSdNhRqsZ4Q/edit?gid=1344385468#gid=1344385468

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
While I don't know the exact cost and lifespan, as a roadway engineer I know that wood roads are much more difficult to maintain than other surfaces and wooden roads can be a lot more slippery than concrete or asphalt when wet which can be a hazard. It's not done anymore for a reason, save for historic restorations like this or Roslyn Place in Pittsburgh. But I agree it does look really nice! Unfortunately not practical anywhere except for small, lightly-traveled side roads like this.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
Positive Opportunity Corridor/tree canopy news (feel free to move if a better thread exists): Cleveland aims to save the trees on Opportunity Corridor https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/09/cleveland-aims-to-save-the-trees-on-opportunity-corridor.html "A portion of the grant money will specifically target the 700 young trees planted in 2021 and 2022 along Opportunity Corridor. Those trees aren’t poised for success, as is, and need to be revitalized so they can survive into the future and flourish, officials said."

I drove by this weekend and totally didn't notice. If they are in fact burying utilities we need to start burying every line in the city (unrealistic but I can dream 🥲)

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Seems like this came out of nowhere: https://www.cleveland.com/metro/2024/08/uh-promises-transformational-building-along-euclid-avenue-with-help-of-15-million-wolstein-family-gift.html "The new center will be located at UH Cleveland Medical Center in University Circle, along Euclid Avenue near Adelbert Avenue in green space in front of the UH Seidman Cancer Center parking garage, Simon said. Half of the green space will be used for construction; the other half will become a sculpture garden."

Cleveland: Random Visualizations & Massings
Absolutely - when I get closer to final renders I'll make sure to include versions with and without a future lakefront stadium, and come up with some alternative options like housing or parks to fill the stadium location.

Idk if/when we will see Browns lakefront renderings, but that's what I'm hoping to achieve with my project in Random Vis thread so we can at least see something

Cleveland: Random Visualizations & Massings
Just thought I'd dust off this ol' thread Now that I finally have time to work on renderings again, here's update 1 of a project merging the 90% lakefront proposal with a potential Browns lakefront stadium that I hope to design. It'll take a while and may not be fruitful in the end, but it's a fun thought experiment just in case we do turn it back to the lakefront lol: For reference: Voinovich Park in front, E 9th at left, CBS to right - looking south. The white area is me hand-sculpting the unique elevation changes and terrain of the lakefront, still WIP. Everything is elevation-accurate and to-scale.
