  1. Do we know if any roadwork/upkeep on Carter Rd is going to take place outside the site limits for NRP and Silverhills? It sure could use it...
  2. The presentation for PC on Oct. 6th for Irishtown Bend is so detailed, thorough, and exciting all I have to say is: WOW https://assets.courbanize.com/irishtown-bend-park/info-plans/425e3bcad19610d0670c9a7bc434ca24.pdf THIS is a world-class park. Worth the entire read.
  3. I'm conflicted. I do agree it looks not great, however we NEED something built here... like, is someone else gonna pick up this site if Geis dumps it? That whole corner is an eyesore and will look even worse once Irishtown Bend is done if nothing gets build here... Edit: I'm asking if the site is likely to get picked up by another developer soon, because I want someone more qualified than Geis to do so lol
  4. Big update!! See the latest designs for Cleveland’s Irishtown Bend Park, now headed for city review Oct. 6 https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/09/see-the-latest-designs-for-clevelands-irishtown-bend-park-now-headed-for-city-review-oct-6.html
  5. Cross-post from Cleveland Cliffs thread: @Oldmanladyluck As I don't know how much tower Cliffs would realistically need given they only occupy like 4 floors of 200 PS, but here's a 600ft building on top the East 9th and Vincent parking garage
  6. In my frequent experience, the Northstars and Brassicas in both Columbus and Cleveland are equally as busy as one another - the brand is pretty strong, and both "chains" are owned by the same people is my understanding...
  7. I think between the MDA and construction start date of Oct. 2023 on public works for the riverfront, the purchase of the jail site, and the lakefront proposal and committee creation (whatever the heck it's called), I think all of these projects have a strong chance of moving forward in some form or another. I think it's the scale that's the most up-in-the-air. Like, "will we get all 3 phases of the riverfront" is the question now, not "will we get the riverfront at all" for example... Then again, I'm more optimistic than most I suppose...
  8. As someone in this age bracket recently out of school, I can concur. This is why High St. corridor from OSU to downtown Cbus is so successful and poppin - us youngins would rather live, work, play in one close area than have to drive out to the 'burbs for work every day (which I currently do, and hate vehemently!). And you're right, the inclinations of large companies/industries certainly are the most deciding factor unfortunately. The issue is, I'm not sure the kinds of individuals Cliffs is looking to attract *shrug*
  9. Already on it šŸ¤™
  10. Next UO meetup: the top of a 700' crane šŸ˜Ž
  11. Quick Cleveland Hopkins rebuild updates for those not in an aviation thread. https://www.cleveland.com/travel/2023/09/better-days-are-coming-new-cleveland-hopkins-chief-offers-update-on-plans-for-new-terminal-parking-crunch-burke-and-more.html Nothing really novel here, but still some important timeline notes: Late 2023 Smart parking garage fully reopens Restroom reno Early 2024 Terminal design firm hire Sheraton demolition Burke studies completion 2025 Phase 1 terminal construction begins
  12. RE: Lifeless, windowless practice facility I think all these other NBA teams would beg to differ (2016 article, but still relevant): https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Journal/Issues/2016/06/06/Facilities/NBA-facilities.aspx
  13. After further research, Google Earth DOES have updated aerial footage from April 2023! You first have to be in the application version, not the desktop website, then you just have to click on the "Clock" in the top toolbar and it brings up the imagery. Downtown for example: And UC, with Artisan completed and Library Lofts still in progress: I believe the reason the 2023 images aren't default on Google Earth may be that they are super high-contrast and missing updated 3D models. From what I read online Google Earth has some sort of vetting process (possibly automated?) on aerial imagery (as in, they have to be clear, well-taken images, whatever that means)... it certainly is hard to see some buildings clearly when the shadows are so blown out. But it's a start! I was worried for a bit that all of the satellites were just conveniently turning off their cameras when they passed over Cleveland lol šŸ™ƒ
  14. Great new 3D GIS tool released by Greater Cleveland Partnership! Press release: https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/09/greater-cleveland-partnership-launches-online-gis-mapping-tool-to-track-numerous-waterfront-access-development-projects.html Website/model link: https://www.greatercle.com/cleveland-development-model/ Well... my 3D model was good while it lasted šŸ˜…
  15. Demolition! The mall comes tumbling down to make way for Belle Oaks Marketplace https://www.cleveland.com/community/2023/09/demolition-begins-at-richmond-town-square-mall-to-make-way-for-belle-oaks-marketplace.html
  16. Oct. 5 Groundbreaking on Rock Hall Expansion https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/09/rock-hall-schedules-oct-5-groundbreaking-for-135-million-plus-expansion-as-precursor-to-citys-lakefront-makeover.html Article is behind a paywall unfortunately...
  17. Yeah I'm referring to Google Earth in particular - Google Maps seems up to date as of 2016 in Downtown, but pre-One University Circle as you can see where they stitched together to aerials at E 55th. Unsurprisingly though, the eastern and western burbs are up to date as of 2022 in Google Earth, so it's like, only the City of Cleveland proper that's out of date, of course :/
  18. OH?! What Google Earth are you using?! still can't see the updates if i launch in my browser OR the desktop application... 😭😭
  19. @Boomerang_BrianClasses have successfully been screwed! So I'm on the 9-5 grind now 🄲, but if I try and leave work by 4 maybe I can make it up from Cbus in time... I guess consider me 50/50
  20. Thanks for the resources - I went to the Cuyahoga County website and found the Fall 2022 aerial which is DEFINITELY more up to date and what I've been expecting from Google minus the 3D part, so that is a huge help! Thanks, I never even considered Bing - will check it out. Appreciate the sentiments! I know these things are sort of niche/not as important to actual photos and development news we get here but hopefully they are at least topical - I just don't see why every other city gets updated imagery and the best we can get are 10-year-old photos when so much has happened around here, especially since 2014. Anywho, @MayDayet. al. the only way I know of performing any "civic action" on getting updated google earth imagery is basically zooming in on the extents of (for example) Downtown Cleveland or UC, hitting the Help/Feedback button in the settings tab, and then ranting to the Google-bots about the severely outdated images, and hoping someone sees it šŸ˜… Whether y'all find that worth your time, I'm sure the more pings they get about it, the more likely it is to get updated, but maybe that's wishful thinking haha. As far as seeing if there's anything the county/city itself can do about it, I have no clue... that's way out of my depth of knowledge...
  21. Question for all the GIS/mapping/3D modeling-inclined people here on the forum. After some "extensive" research on Google Earth and Google Maps, I've generated this list which I think is pretty revealing/unfortunate, and I'm wondering what the issue is and what/if anything we as humble citizens can do about this: Google Earth Latest Imagery: Columbus = 9/1/2022 Cincinnati = 11/10/2022 Pittsburgh = 4/24/2022 Detroit = 8/2/2022 Chicago = 7/12/2022 Milwaukee = 8/5/2022 Nashville = 9/7/2022 Buffalo = 5/29/2022 Philadelphia = 6/6/2022 Every other major US city, likewise, etc. etc. etc. Cleveland = 6/28/2014 I think you get the picture... and as someone who's city 3D modeling-inclined and appreciates up-to-date things and definitely invested in this city, this picture makes me sad.
  22. Because no major outlets are covering it and I saw it on a CLE Aviation thread... https://www.centerforcleveland.org/news "July 21, 2023: Cleveland MSA expands. The federally-defined Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area has been expanded from five to six counties. The new county is Ashtabula County." Cleveland MSA is adding Ashtabula Co. to its overall MSA, increasing our metro population by almost 100k people. If I'm not mistaken, it once again puts us tied with or barely ahead of Columbus for largest metro area in the state by population (for now at least...). I'm sure if one was inclined to do a deep dive you could find more info on this story elsewhere...
  23. @MayDay @sonisharri i'll second-second that lol. Also I threw in a post-Guardians game Pride Terminal Tower cuz I feel like it šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ Aside: downtown was HOPPIN tonight, especially warehouse district and the flats
  24. (6/4) Artisan appreciation post. It’s giving Central Park vibes…
