Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
APTA released their Q1 2025 transit ridership numbers a week ago. GCRTA saw a ridership increase of +1.32% YTD from March 2024. This table has the actual GCRTA numbers from APTA and then my back of napkin estimates for end-of-year 2025 (italics) should the trends hold quarter-to-quarter: Slight declines in heavy rail and light rail ridership were made up for by increases in bus and paratransit ridership. Will be interesting to see if rail ridership increases substantially once all of RTA's improvements come online in the next couple of years. Keep in mind that growth rate is naturally flattening as we recover from the pandemic. Increases were high in the initial post-pandemic recovery but they are steadying out. https://www.apta.com/research-technical-resources/transit-statistics/ridership-report/

IKR! It's that exact mindset that holds back progress. It's the bare-minimum but I'm glad to see our local leaders and US senators advocating for the city and ensuring this becomes a reality throughout all these federal challenges and Browns shenanigans

Well, this is interesting: clevelandGreater Cleveland Partnership endorses Browns’ Brook Park...The Greater Cleveland Partnership is backing the Browns' Brook Park idea, rather than back public officials efforts to keep the team downtown.TL;DR “While a downtown dome is ideal, financial and development constraints have been challenging; the Brook Park option is more practical to move forward,” the letter said. “The additional events, and expected growth in live entertainment, are an economic opportunity for the entire region.” GCP has, at the same time, called upon the Haslams to provide more than 150 million for lakefront development "GCP has made extensive efforts to bring stakeholders together as in other complex civic initiatives, and we do not take lightly that our positions diverge from some of our key partners,” the letter said.

Full speed ahead as Severance Town Center redevelopment plan hits midway markclevelandFull speed ahead as Severance Town Center redevelopment p...With about 10 months left to reach a "master development agreement" toward a proposed public-private partnership, community input continues to be gathered at an updated crowd-sourcing website.TL;DR Porter and MPact still have about 10 months to come up with a plan "At the midway mark, 'we’re on time, but we’re getting to the hard part,' Porter said, calling the plan and schedule 'ambitious but doable.'" Hope to have rezoning in place by the end of this year Second half of the process will involve developing a site concept plan Proposed zoning would allow for an initial phase of mixed-use development consisting of new housing, retail and community activities Will also take into account public spaces, financing and even the possibility of a boutique hotel. “There has been a lot of talk about a hotel, so we plan to look deeper into that” Modernizing sewers, creating a grid of streets and blocks available for development and an integrated network of roads and pathways Phasing: Zoning adoption in the fourth quarter of 2025 Phase I groundbreaking in the second quarter of 2026 Completion of Phase I in two years, by mid-2028
