Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Morning UO! The next Methodicle project is in the works and I'd love your help! Moving forward I'm switching to surveys for collecting ideas and data for projects. Hopefully it'll be a better form of engagement than long-form requests. The first survey Rapid2075 is open now - RTA has been around for 50 years now and this survey asks what you want to see improved over the next 50. I'm very excited to share this transit project with y'all soon. For now, if you have ever ridden RTA, live in or been to Cleveland, or haven't yet and want to in the future, feedback is greatly appreciated. The survey is independent, 100% anonymous and it takes just 5 minutes or less to complete. Feel free to share with friends and family! The more data the better. Look for shareable socials sometime the end of this week or beginning of next. Cheers 🚄 🔗 https://forms.gle/ijTv3FNm9YNh8Aia9

Richmond Heights: Belle Oaks (Richmond Town Square Redevelopment)
Haha def not the best use of space - it is zoned for future business tho (see below) Also, they were building some new modern building right on the corner (circled in red below) that doesn't show up on the website's dev map. I wonder what it could be...

Orange Village: Pinecrest
Omni development site on the south side of Harvard opposite Pinecrest. If we're getting technical, these acres are the "Orange Place South Planned Development District" (heck of a mouthful). Yes urban sprawl! *sarcasm

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
Some ITB updates from the Columbus rd bridge and Merlin’s Wharf. They’re moving along quite nicely on the bulkheads. August 2025 still seems very reasonable. But good god walking along that stretch of W 25th is miserable. The streetscape can’t come soon enough!

Cleveland: University Circle: Skyline on Stokes
Skyline on Stokes update: also, for those curious, per ODOT records, they will be resurfacing Stokes from Chester to MLK in 2027 (PID 122344) and adding a striped bike lane, which I would imagine will reduce it from an unnecessary four lane to a three lane + bike

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
1) I've never seen a busier RTA than Saturday going to and leaving the Crew game. I really underestimated how many people would use it! Plus, everyone on the train got a good kick out of casually rolling past the absolute hell of a traffic jam in the Flats trying to leave a game lol 2) While the RTA employees were extremely helpful in directing people at the W 3rd station by the stadium (thank you!), it made me think: especially for game day situations where you have irregular trains, is there any indication they will install the same digital signage on the waterfront line that they will be installing on the other lines? It would be really useful in cases like Saturday. I suppose if the Browns decide to leave though there won't be "cases like Saturday" 😑

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
Here's a TL;DR 😉 https://www.crainscleveland.com/politics-policy/critical-cdc-funding-decision-awaits-cleveland-cuyahoga-co HUD delays mean City Council faces critical CDC funding decision The article is more of a council/funding issue and not solely a Warney & Swasey issue BTW, although it could certainly be impacted. Maybe there's a better thread for this article then. Cleveland’s 18 CDCs depend on the nearly $9 million in annual funding provided by the city from more than $3 billion in HUD Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program. Tania Menesse, president and CEO of Cleveland Neighborhood Progress (CNP), warns that with the fiscal year beginning in July, CDCs need the CDBGs to operate and some may soon find themselves short of that necessary cash. “Without gap or bridge funding, 12 of the 18 CDCs will not be operational by Christmas," Menesse says. Earlier in the year, Councilman Kerry McCormack introduced Ordinance 113-2025 that, if passed, would shift from using the HUD grants, which are limited and only reimburse spending, to pulling CDC money directly from the city’s general fund. Councilman McCormack said he plans to push for a committee hearing, but as summer approaches, the time it would take to get a full council vote is unclear. The CDC measure would allocate $8.6 million for 17 CDCs for one year. The funding is on par with the 2025 CDBG funds dispersed to CDCs, representing about 1% of the city’s $810 million general fund and less than 0.5% of Cleveland's $2.1 billion city budget.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
It's not even just permits. Back and forth with city reviewers no matter where is completely normal in the plan design/review process before permitting even happens, but extremely annoying. Us engineers and developers just deal with it until a project is done or dead.

^I was just about to post about this haha. But the article is actually from January 2024. @KJP, any updates? I'm assuming not, else we probably would've heard something a year on...
