  1. Great news, great article! Still lots of work to do, but we like hard work: https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/04/would-you-recommend-cleveland-as-a-tourist-destination-more-locals-say-yes.html "Thirteen years ago, only 1 in 3 Clevelanders said they would recommend the city as a place to visit. Today, 9 out of 10 Clevelanders would"
  2. Let's maybe support them instead of declaring it DOA - otherwise we just feed into the narrative
  3. It has - the light rail can be easily tied to this project as the stadium is right next to (almost on top of, literally) the Red/Green/Blue Lines running into Tower City. Will it be tied to this project? That's on RTA. Cleveland Soccer Group says they're prioritizing public transportation, so I can only assume if a station is built by the stadium they are all in. Again, at this point, the ball seems to be in RTA's court as to whether they are also all in.
  4. Amazing news!!! Keep up the good work Bibb/Cleveland https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/04/cleveland-initiative-to-battle-homelessness-finds-housing-for-154-closes-15-encampments.html Cleveland initiative to battle homelessness finds housing for 154, closes 15 encampments "First unveiled more than a year ago, Mayor Justin Bibb’s $2 million program has already surpassed its initial goal of finding housing for 150 individuals by 2026. Cleveland City Council is set to introduce legislation Monday night that would fund the initiative for a second year with another $1.9 million."

  8. Not really a good place to put this, but something cool in the works that would be great to have in the region: https://www.crainscleveland.com/sports-recreation/highland-park-golf-course-eyes-lpga-event-2027 Highland Park Golf Course betting on big upgrades to land LPGA event Nearing completion on a $1 million driving range that will measure 400 yards from tip to tip and 150 yards across. The range will include netting along Green Road. The range is the first piece in a larger development plan that includes a $3 million, state-of-the-art learning center building to open in 2027. The learning center will have six four-season Trackman simulators, 16 three-season Topracer Bays and a total of 30 grass bays. Highland's competitive blue course is also set for major renovations, which include 27 new tee boxes, 54 new bunkers and a lengthening to 7,200 yards to meet championship standards. (Highland's red course, which is designed for more casual golfers, will also get some upgrades/redesigns.) Fourteen blue course holes will be remodeled and four will be renovated, all with an eye on becoming the first course to host an LPGA event in Northeast Ohio since 2004, the last year for the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic in Warren. Fewer than 30,000 golfers used the course in 2022, a number that jumped to 42,000 in 2023. Last year, more than 52,000 golfers played either a nine-hole or 18-hole round at Highland Park, and the goal is to have 60,000 this year, weather permitting. Ohio’s only LPGA event is the Kroger Queen City Championship, which will be held outside Cincinnati in September. The Epson Tour (the LPGA’s qualifying tour) and the Legends of the LPGA will host a dual event at Highland Meadows Golf Club near Toledo in July, but few of the 3.7 million people who live in Cleveland’s designated market area make the two-hour trek for that event. For Highland, the next challenge is finding a tournament sponsor. HPGF is engaged with “several companies,” Flesher said, although he said it’s too soon to mention potential name.

  11. Oh wow, those are much better frequencies should it come to pass. Thx for the update!
  12. Cuz I'm bored, I was doing some napkin math in my head but I'm curious what more knowledgeable people know. I'm just trying to wrap my head around this: So RTA will have a total of 48 new units by 2028. I assume one "unit" refers to this: If this is the case, I'm assuming one unit would be the equivalent of a current Blue/Green line train, and two units coupled would be roughly the equivalent of a current Red line train. 1) RED: From the airport it takes one train about an hour and a half to make the out-and-back, and to satisfy 15 min intervals in between, that would require 6 trains running on the Red line at any given time. If 6 trains run on the Red line, and they continue to run it that way in 2027 with two unit-trains, that means 12 of the 48 units will be used just for the Red line. Otherwise, 6 units. 2) BLUE/GREEN: From Tower City, it takes about an hour to make the out-and-back, and to satisfy 30 min intervals in between, that would require 2 trains running. Two trains on the Blue and Green lines each would mean 4 out of 48 units, each train with one unit. 3) Therefore, if trains are run in 2027/28 as they are now, that means at any given time, AT MOST, a third (16/48) of the units will be operational. I guess what I'm trying to ask/wrap my head around is whether or not RTA CAN and WILL a) increase frequency on the Green and Blue lines because of the surplus rolling stock, and b) if we know whether they will continue to couple two units together for Red Line trains. I ask this because I don't think in any articles I've seen mention of them increasing Blue/Green line frequency. Not only is 30 min interval very annoying for people trying to plan out taking the trains, but the Blue and Green lines have been increasing ridership YOY while the Red line decreases. The math seams to work out with plenty spare to switch units out for repairs, etc. Plus, it sounds like their option is for 60 total, which would be a HUGE surplus once they get around to it. Obviously these could be used for new lines with different routings like a Van Aken-Airport line, but I'm more just curious about the operations on the existing 3 lines BEFORE that happens. Thoughts appreciated :)
  13. It would be concerning, if there weren't 10-ish new store openings in Crocker Park lined up as of recently. Of course, that gets buried in the article because trigger words like "closures" and "vacant" gets clicks.
  14. Idk who's doing the aerial drone coverage for this home opener but they need a raise. Epic views of the city and the ballpark, hope they keep it up all season. Also, the new wirecams they're showing off on the broadcast are great too.
  15. I'm just gonna post this here, and then any population/income/etc. discussion should be moved to the appropriate thread. Yes, city proper is still much lower than Columbus and Cincinnati MHI, but it you look at the growth rates, combined with the fact that the city proper is estimated to be gaining population again - things *for now* are looking up.
  16. Not really news, but just thought I'd share that I came across the timeline for the Memorial Bridges Loop from Eagle Ave to Superior along Ontario and Huron while browsing through ODOT projects: https://ellisproj.dot.state.oh.us/ScheduleData.aspx?pid=120754 This seems to all check out because the Eagle Ave rehabilitation as part of the Cavs project should be done or close to being done by June 2026 in time for them to kick off the shared use path. Estimated start date is June 1, 2026.
  17. ^That thing's goin up quick!
  18. Yeah, don't everybody jump to premature conclusions now 😉
  19. Unfortunately, the 24.8 mil in 2024 is the ENTIRE GCRTA system - bus, paratransit, HR, LR, and so on. A long way off from the 60s I fear. :/ The silver lining here is that total GCRTA ridership is continuing to increase since the pandemic, at the highest rate among the 3 Cs (Cleveland = +11.69%, Columbus = +6.20%, Cincinnati +2.90% YTD). Also, GCRTA is far and away the most-used transit authority in Ohio - like, no one else is even close, so there's that to be thankful for. Modernization of our rail system from the trains to the stations and a city/metro population that is no longer hemorrhaging and in some cases increasing in population should help. That being said, we must continue to advocate and push RTA to increase ridership and be forward-thinking and innovative in transit solutions.
  20. APTA is probably the best resource I've found - breaks down every transportation type within a system. You can also see back several years of data, which is released quarterly. https://www.apta.com/wp-content/uploads/2024-Q4-Ridership-APTA.1.pdf GCRTA on Page 28/40 Total Ridership 23' = 22,271,500 Total Ridership 24' = 24,875,000 +11.69% Red Line (HR) ridership is decreasing, Blue/Green Line (LR) ridership is increasing. I could imagine Red Line ridership might increase again once new cars are acquired, but that's wishful thinking I suppose
  21. Amazing - doing the bare minimum! (Sarcasm) https://www.ideastream.org/government-politics/2025-04-02/cleveland-city-council-to-begin-professionalism-training-to-deal-with-culture-of-city-hall Cleveland City Council to begin professionalism training to 'deal with culture of City Hall' "All council staff, including the 17 council members, will be required to take an annual, three-hour long training session on workplace harassment, discrimination and retaliation prevention, a city spokesperson told Ideastream Public Media."

  23. Right?! I would happily put together the most thorough powerpoint presentation and renderings imaginable lmao
  24. I think the "Local Super Bowls" he's referring to are just whenever the Browns win a game. That, or just a healthy salad with some quinoa or something 😆
  25. Thanks! I was referring more to any insider information on this "unnamed developer" haha
