Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
As stuff heats up in the area of Tremont west of 90 with developments like the Tappan, retail follows behind closely. Chef Rebecca Hess who's worked at restaurants including Urban Farmer, spice, and the Greenhouse Tavern plans to open a chocolate shop in the Fairmount Creamery building.

The Hough and Ansel development is live online for early leasing. It's been dubbed The Axis at Ansel. I'm optimistic that this will fill up since multiple departments at CWRU are going to be moved to Maltz which is just down the street. https://www.apartments.com/axis-at-ansel-cleveland-oh/bn19l6c/

Redevelopment in the Circle North neighborhood continues! 11310 Itasca Ave, a 16 unit apartment building made in 1920 that's been empty and condemned for years, is being fully rehabbed.

I don't believe so? It went before design-review in April, but I don't think any actual work was started as far as I'm aware.

Cleveland: Superior Arts District: Development and News
10/08/19 it looks like a commercial building permit was filed for the Grossman Paper Box Co. at 1729 Superior Ave. They'll probably start gutting the building soon in preparation to build out the interior for 49 (unless the number was changed) apartments.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
This is all urban planning, emphasis on the planning. Planning for the future. What's being built now will have an impact on the city for decades. Not that long ago Euclid was slow and lacking much in the way of retail. A short walk in downtown will show that this is no longer the case as more and more businesses are opening downtown. The point of preserving Ontario retail along with the point of building new retail spaces is in planning for a time in the future when the demand will be there to fill up these spots. We need them now because they'll be filled tomorrow.

I took a more detailed look at all of the logos in the renderings: See Through Lab- experimental art and technology lab in Brooklyn Stripe- payment company based in SF CYBR- very small blockchain cyber security company in Virginia Bunq- fully online bank in the Netherlands Morph- no distinct logo shown and too many companies with this name BlokVirtu- fictional software company and logo made by a graphic designer Ezza- innovative, digitized nail salon from Chicago TEDx- influential talks and presentations Benedicts- ? INCubator- logo stolen from a tech incubator in Chattanooga, TN. That is near Cleveland, TN I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Some of them are obviously not real and are just placeholder logos. But Stripe seems very possible. As does Bunq which just expanded to the entirety of the EU two days ago. And Ezza is getting bigger and bigger investments so an expansion to Cleveland would make sense. Lastly, TEDx talks should be very doable, but I imagine that space will be for multiple other presentation uses too.

Neither was East 4th street 20 years ago. I imagine that pedestrianizing this street and adding restaurants and retail will have the same effect here, but with the park aspect adding in more appeal as a place to relax even if you aren't visiting any of the businesses.

Other cool thing: They are also hoping to work with thinkbox on CWRU's campus as a supply for things like 3D printing and lazer cutting. Workers at city block will (if this pans out) be able to order a 3D printed part, it will be made at thinkbox, and it will then be delivered via the red line. They mentioned making some kind of locked storage box attached to the outside of the trains themselves for transporting supplies.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Definitely attracting tech talent. CWRU is working with City Block and the university in and of itself is part of the draw for Google and other businesses. Numerous students declined offers from Google citing that they wanted to stay in the Cleveland area, and this shifting desire of location is part of the reason they want to stay here.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Honestly I see this as the biggest project going on anywhere in the city. If this succeeds, thousands of new jobs and employees will be right there in the heart of downtown. Public transit will almost definitely get a boost and from what I've heard there's some ongoing work with RTA that's going to benefit them both. A more attractive, busy, and pedestrian friendly area will allow more retail to succeed in the area. Cleveland's push towards pedestrian streets will make one of it's biggest steps with closing prospect. And demand for downtown or transit accessible housing will skyrocket to accommodate new employees and more demand for an ever more attractive downtown. This project has the opportunity to make a massive impact on the city like no other.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Making it pedestrian only wouldn't hurt in that regard. And if the development has some park space and retail it'd be a perfect location for it. But that is still a bit IF

Winter doesn't have to be dead. I'm a huge fan of what Detroit did downtown creating a winter market with cozy indoor spaces, and an outdoor fire warmed plaza and beer garden. https://detroit.curbed.com/platform/amp/2017/11/17/16670110/downtown-detroit-markets-holiday-photos Throw in some kinda landscaping or building design to shield it from the winds and this could be a winter destination helping to keep alive whatever other restaurants/retail are there.

Expensive as it may be, offerings in the neighborhood are becoming even more expensive like the pair of new homes to be built on E 124th place. One's being sold for 899k and the other 889k. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1932-E-124th-Pl-B-Cleveland-OH-44106/2082865195_zpid/

Picture I got a couple days ago with the landscaping outside mostly complete. August 1st was first move in day and they're up to about 50% occupied now, primarily Cleveland Clinic employees and CWRU grad students. The only part of the building that still needs much work is the first floor for all the retail spots. Current estimated date of completion is October 15th. Also, if you haven't tried their stuff yet, I highly recommend Cleveland Cold Brew who's moving into one of those spots.

The Feast of the Assumption started today so I took a few pics. La Collina really does a great job filling in Mayfield and making it more walkable (just needs some retail finally), and I'm excited for Mayfield Station to do the same when it's completed. And then Quattro just always makes me jealous of the people who get to live there.

The sidewalk all around the building is being completely repaved. They just still have a bit of work left to do.
