Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
According to the city code, there's supposed to be 7 members (6 appointed by the mayor and 1 council member). There are ALSO supposed to be 2 alternate members appointed by the mayor who will take the place if a member "is unable to act or is self-disqualified because of personal interest." So why is it that we only have 5 members and with no alternates, leaving things like this to happen more frequently? Am I missing something?

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
With the closure of that parking lot, I think it might be feasible to turn most of that block of Old River Rd into a pedestrian only road like E 4th. There's not much need for cars in between the 1313 parking lot and Samsel's loading docks under the billboard. The only issue I can think of is the gate next to 1316, but it doesn't seem to really be used.

Cleveland: University Circle: Circle Square
While not technically Circle Square, CMA is planning on improving the greenspace around the circle, adjacent to the Circle Square development. This is from the Planning Commission Agenda for 11/5, but I don't think they got to this part before the meeting ended. See https://planning.clevelandohio.gov/designreview/schedule.php under the presentations section, November 5, pages 336-349 And on pages 325-335, you can see the plans for the Circle Square public parking garage.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
There's nothing wrong with six story buildings. Some of the most urban cities are predominantly made up of buildings about 6 or so stories tall like Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, etc. Though I agree that I'd love to see something much taller here, I have no problem with midrises.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Fully agree but it's a bit unrealistic to expect a 65-story tower. The price per square foot to build that tall would make it inaccessible for almost all students. Nice as it may be, it's just not feasible. I'm expecting more 5-15 story buildings in the area.

Usually a lot better... but the design is ultimately up to whoever is developing it. I think this site might be cursed to have unimaginative and repetitive architecture.

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
While the multi-family aspect had been reported on, I think this is the first news of them acquiring this parking lot. The original phase 2 plans didn't involve that lot at all.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I think I would just get rid of E 107th entirely from Cedar to Wilbur. Have parking garage access for the new development be off of Cedar Ave and E 107th isn't even used for much of anything. I feel like it could be converted into a pedestrian only pathway consequence free. Could make for a nice linear park/path for the new apartment building.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
For anyone who's curious about the 20,000 number and where it comes from. Four census tracts: 1071.01, 1077.01, and 1078.02 which are the normal downtown boundary most people think of, AND 1033 which is the west bank of the flats. 2020 census estimated 16,098 people in these tracts. The part that I missed at first in the explanation is that the 20,000 figure also includes areas east of the innerbelt up to E 30th (thanks random Twitter user I talked with a month ago). See the pink dotted border: DCA's housing demand study that created the 20k figure estimated that by 2021, the four census tracts (shaded purple in the map) would have a population of 16,409. With 16,098 in April 2020, it's pretty reasonable to assume we met 16,409 in 2021. The missing population is in the non-shaded section of the map that DCA estimated would have a pop of 3,604 in 2021. Combined, that'd be 20,013 people in the 4 census tracts and a sliver of more land which seems pretty accurate. No fudged numbers, just a fudged definition of what counts as Downtown. Seeing as DCA estimates that almost 750 more units were occupied in Q2 2021 compared to Q2 2020, we're more than on track to reach 30,000 by 2030 (within DCA's "Traditional Boundary").

Cleveland City Council
https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2021/09/16/blaine-griffin-endorses-kelley-in-cleveland-mayors-race-council-presidency-in-his-crosshairs Article related to mayoral race, but it also touches on the competition for Council President. It seems obvious at this point that it's going to come down to a decision between Blaine Griffin and Kerry McCormack. Anyone have any guesses as to how they think a decision like that will turn out? https://www.cleveland.com/news/2021/09/two-candidates-seeking-cleveland-city-council-presidency-are-funding-council-candidates-across-the-city.html ^ Some info on donations Council members Jones (1), Santana (14), Kazy (16), and Slife (17) and November candidates Warren (C13) and Starr (C5) seem likely to support McCormack based on his donations. Candidate Maurer (C12) seems likely as well. Maybe Polensek (8) based on his dislike of Kelley and Jackson. Kevin Conwell's (9) endorsement of Kelley for mayor suggests he'd probably support Griffin. Anyone have any thoughts on the other council members and candidates?
