  1. Perhaps the nicest interiors to date. It's a shame this hasn't come to fruition.
  2. As illustrated in KJPs rendering below, demolition of the JC would leave a huge gap in the skyline between TT and Key. It needs to either be refurbished or another skyscraper to replace it. No parking lots!
  3. While not personally a fan of brutalism, it is nonetheless an architectural form that may be worthy of protecting.
  4. Thanks for the perspective Ken. Sure would be nice to have another 100 ft on that SW Tower....
  5. Unless there was on-site manufacturing, chemical storage or on-site chemical disposal, it's unlikely that there would be a need for site cleanup.
  6. As I recall, their current R&D facility was built before the internet, electronic surveillance, selfies, smartphones and domestic terrorism. In addition, they will want to anticipate future security needs.
  7. That's gonna be a tough one...
  8. That would allow SW to maintain their "river roots," be within a few blocks of HQ AND keep everything downtown. ?
  9. We all seem to have overlooked what was an original alternative for the combined HQ and R&D; the Bedrock site. Couldn't just R&D locate there, with PS/Weston for HQ?
  10. Indeed, tremendous demolition. When I was born at Mount Sinai MC in 1956, we lived in a rowhouse on E. 100th Street and Cedar Ave. It is now home to CCF Lerner Research Institute and everything that was on Cedar, Quincy and Carnegie is gone.
  11. I think we should reserve this discussion for when/where they select their R&D site, it is actually built and how accessible it is to random pedestrians.
  12. R&D facilities are concerned with industrial espionage versus your average run of the mill street crime. We must also consider that wherever the R&D facility is located, the intent will be for it to be in that location well into the foreseeable future. I agree with "X" and hope the City helps SW identify an appropriate OC location. Locating the new CPD nearby may help to allay crime concerns.
  13. Interesting...most of the changes have occurred due to the Clinic.
  14. I guess the good, but also sad, news is that almost every major city in the country has CBD parking lot blight; the only exceptions being Manhattan, DC, Boston and SFO.
  15. In all fairness, they had gotten a little bit better; there've been a few recent standouts downtown anyway (Hilton, Lumen, Beacon, Nucleus)
  16. If Cleveland has no available land options, it's better to have R&D in Brecksville than out of the county or state. I think having a corporate HQ downtown, with suburban R&D facilities is pretty much the corporate norm. When I worked for E.I. DuPont de Nemours, our corporate offices were in downtown Wilimington, while the Experimental Station (R&D) and other offices were in suburban Wilmington, Newark, DE and NJ.
  17. Doesn't the City of Cleveland and/or Cuyahoga County own numerous parcels within the city limits?
  18. Commencement of development may happen sooner, as SW continues to drive its North American revenue, earnings and and its cash flow. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-keep-sherwin-williams-shw-110811215.html
  19. Can't say I blame him. Great pic tho.
  20. So glad to hear that the City's coffers are improving.
  21. Cleveland City Council approves tax increment financing today. https://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/2020/01/cleveland-city-council-oks-key-steps-toward-tax-incentives-to-aid-two-ohio-city-developments.html
  22. Weston and Bedrock sites could be even more of a challenge. At least Scranton is somewhat insulated, like Breen.
  23. As I had previously mentioned upthread, whichever site is selected, as indicated here with PPG's R&D facilities, public access will be extremely limited and security will be tight. The need for high security will impact R&D site selection.
  24. I agree. This may be an opportunity to get concessions. Given the extensive boring/sampling done on PS/Weston, I find it inconceivable that the same would not have been done on the Scranton site, especially given the history of the flats and the river. SW may be a paint manufacturer, but they're also experts in organic/inorganic/polymer chemistry. They know the impact of industrial pollutants. After all, they got their start right there on the Cuyahoga River.
