Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
You are absolutely correct, so why would the County build a low-budget, non-revenue generating courthouse on the most important parcel of real estate in the city? The RTA track and vehicle replacement costs are huge and there's no money. At least the Hilton generates revenue.

My sentiments exactly!

It would have to be to eliminate traffic jams but, a little traffic on Euclid might not be a bad thing. It will be like it was back in the day.

As much as I have despised the disgraceful Jacobs/Weston wasteland for the last 30 years, I still hope that if SW does not go with Jacobs/Weston, that Cuyahoga County will have the infinite wisdom to settle on Weston for a courthouse and reserve PS for an iconic 800 -1000 ft tower.

I'm in complete agreement. I would hope and I think it would make more sense to target the Weston lots vs. PS for a courthouse.

I'm not an architect nor in the construction business, but I would think that with the overabundance of concrete, most brutalist structures would be a challenge to retrofit or renovate.

Are they still pressing for PS-Weston?

It all makes alot of sense for a number of reasons. Unfortunately a 40 story tower on the river though will have less skyline prominence than one built on PS. At least SW will be staying and I can continue painting the interior of my condo.

Aren't most of those downtown apartments at least on annual leases? If so, I hope people aren't able to just give a 30 day notice and leave without any penalties.

The recent departures of several top Jack Casino executives to Bedrock was an indicator of things to come. As I had questioned earlier, VICI Properties to acquire Jack Casino and Jack Racino. https://www.globest.com/2019/10/28/vici-properties-to-acquire-jack-cleveland-casino-jack-thistledown-racino-in-843-3m-sale-leaseback-deal/

Anything that will get the suburban/exurbanites out of their hamlets to enjoy the sights and sounds of the urban core, regardless of what it is or where it is located is a very good thing.

It is. Let's all hope he can successfully pull it off!

"He teased us with a grand project, but for whatever reasons, most likely, this is just another building. I'm glad a development is being built, as there is less and less open development space in downtown, but I'm tired of seeing half-assed projects." It comes down to their ability (or inability) to execute the vision flawlessly. I simply don't have confidence that the project will be well executed. I still see issues with the Beacon that should have been remedied and it would appear that residents are already moving in. They're simple, unresolved issues that if addressed, would significantly improve the quality of the finished project.

They still need to resolve the building/garage interface and paint those pink bars in the garage any other color but pink.

Are we referring to towns or cities? If that's the look the city and county wants, then place it within the Burnham Group's Plan.

Jailhouse, courthouse...neither is a desirable amenity nor an asset on PS.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Here's the ultimate question... Does the County and the City really want a jailhouse on Public Square? It is a much more suitable site for a corporate HQ, similar to Sohio (BP) and Society for Savings (Key Bank). If the answer is yes, the citizenry needs to clean house during the next election.

I think the delay is more an issue of a lot of moving pieces to bring this process to closure: 1. There are several parcels in play 2. Cuyahoga County wants to deliver their contributors a JC close to the courts (This one still burns me). It could also involve multiple sites. 3. There are multiple land owners for the preferred sites, each with their own special interests If there was a single landowner and the County facilitated the process, instead of obstructing it, we probably would have an answer sooner.

The more I see this building, the more interesting it becomes. In the second photo, the floor currently being glassed actually juts out in the middle, creating a different visual plane of glass. Apparently these are only on the north and west sides of the building. The south and east sides appear to be flush. Love it!

Even when CLE had more direct flights and better international air service, it was a much easier airport to get in/out of than the monstrocities of ATL, CLT, IAH or DFW. It still is.
