Cleveland: Random Development and News
Clevecane is correct, when the housing crisis struck, developers literally walked away from their developments; cranes in mid-air. I was living in NYC at the time but frequently travelled to MIA on business. Like Manhattan, there may be an over-abundance of inventory, but they keep building. From my balcony, I can see 14 cranes in a 180 degree arc.

Yes, ideally the development would include the Jacob lot and all or a portion of the Weston Superblock.

Yeah, the rapid right of way has been there since I was in high-school in the early 70's. I used to drive down Shaker Blvd (sometimes Chagrin) from SOM Center Rd. and it was a wasted resource then; it still is.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
There is absolutely nothing wrong with bending metal. That's how Cleveland grew so rapidly, so we know its doable. I think the points you raise are legitimate, as are mine; multiple stakeholders, some with competing interests, setting those personal interests aside for the benefit of the city and region. If you love Cleveland, you will do what it takes to ensure its success. Period. End of story.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
I'm concerned that the executives are bailing to go to Bedrock. Sounds like they want to stay with Gilbert but not the casino.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
This project will never happen. Jack's only remaining assets are in Cleveland; they sold Detroit and Cincy assets and now multiple Jack senior executives are moving to Bedrock. I suspect they may be on to something and everything that has recently occurred would tend to indicate a sale is imminent. https://www.casino.org/news/jack-entertainment-execs-taking-roles-in-sister-development-company

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Miami doesn't appear to have as many development challenges. In fact, the market is pretty hot, with new high-rise development throughout Brickell, SoBe, Arts & Entertainment, Edgewater, Mid-town, Doral, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Wynwood areas. This includes retail (Macy's, Neiman-Marcus, being built as I type this). Then again, there's tremendous demand and a huge influx of US and foreign investment. The challenges are public transportation, higher wages and affordable housing. The largest industry is hospitality/tourism and most jobs don't provide massive incomes. Also, MIA has some of the worst urban traffic in the US.

Interesting... According to Google Maps: 19 Public Square is the corner of Rockwell and West Roadway. Lol!

Understood, however if SW decides on a taller building, it could approach 600-800 ft in height.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Both Eaton and Goodyear have 15-20 foot stories, which if mimicked, would put the tallest tower at 600-800 ft.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I think the rendering in KJP's most recent article reflects the urban campus, on the PS-Superblock parking craters, with an 800 ft tower (which BTW would make it the 2nd tallest), shorter surrounding buildings and parking garage. I also love the Quad park-like space between buildings. Sounds like it could fit the bill.

The Goodyear HQ is much more open, modular, modern, vibrant and provides numerous opportunities for the use of SW products. Lol

Could there also be an opportunity to acquire and develop relatively inexpensive land along Opportunity Corridor? Its completion should fit into the SW timeline.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
Agreed. Despite all of the promises, renderings and hype to obtain approvals in the first place, I don't see a Phase II ever being completed by Gilbert. They're already pulling back by: 1. Buying out Caesars 2. Selling their assets in other cities and 3. Now Jack executives are jumping ship, moving over to Bedrock

...assuming the appropriate location.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
So getting back to Phase II, would the proposed location for that Phase have been an improvement over what currently exists? Also a lot of the casino executives have bailed, going over to Bedrock. Is the casino going up for sale like some of the others?

Cleveland: Downtown: Cleveland Athletic Club Redevelopment
There's something to be said for nostalgia. It adds perspective and historical context that provides additional meaning to projects.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
Exceptional location but the building could stand a little sprucing up, no?

For sale condos? Do you know if they're selling?

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
What is in the upper floors of the building on Ontario and S. Roadway, adjacent to May Co., that houses Jake's Pizza on street-level? Are they offices or apartments?
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
I think the challenge with that part of Ontario (Prospect too) is that for most of the day, it is in the shadows of the Terminal Tower Complex. It makes the street dark and with the Casino, the Casino bridge, lack of planters, bus hubs and limited storefronts, its not an attractive stretch.

Folks, these are good problems to have. At least the conversation is around a lack of pedestrian space and access because there's so much development in the area.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
Harrah's - NOLA is downtown, with limited entertainment options within its immediate vicinity. The Warehouse District or E. 4th is as close to Jack as Harrah's is to Bourbon St.

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
The interior was very nicely done. My family were patrons of Higbees for decades and they did a great job of reproducing it's original elegance. BTW, Mr. Jingeling was Halle's 7th Floor. The exterior however is another story. On PS and Prospect Ave sides, there are panhandlers, sidewalk is littered with cigarette butts and the Ontario side consists of a wall of blocked out windows. The existing bridge enables casino goers to bypass the streets. A second bridge will do the same, but will increase the darkness that is inherent in that location.

Do you go to it? Have you spent any time inside and outside?
