  1. Why is it that some cities are competent at getting things done, while others are not? Cooperation between the local government(s), the local civic communities and corporate leadership are critical to improving the quality of life for all inhabitants. None of us want to live (or even drive through) poverty, seedy neighborhoods, blight and squalor. We all want a clean, safe environment for our families and friends. Lower Prospect Avenue has needed redevelopment since the 1960's. It is inexcusable that City Hall and Stark are unable to get this project across the finish line!
  2. This is very unfortunate. It is situations such as this and those self-serving individuals that create so much discord in the community. Unfortunately the inability and unwillingness of elected officials to move the city and region forward is what contributes to the regional population exodus.
  3. There's more here than meets the eye. We focus on Stark Enterprises, but what about their partner on this project?
  4. This takes us back to my earlier posted question. For a 1/3 billion dollar project, in a totally new hometown arena, why wouldn't you focus your available resources on bringing that project to conclusion before venturing into less valuable projects in competing cities? There's also reputation at stake here.

  6. That seems incredibly high for a 1x1 (even a 2x2). My rent in a (2x2) in downtown MIA, brand new building, 24th floor, all stainless steel, hardwood floors, 500 ft2 balcony, floor to ceiling windows, pool/jacuzzi, gym, social room with great views of SOBE, cruise ship channel/ocean and downtown is 2/3 the price.
  7. Very disheartening news, but with the revisions, neverending financing issues and delays, it's not surprising. I hope it all works out. It would have represented a great addition in an area desperately in need of development for four decades.
  8. What does this mean for the future of the Nucleus project? Weren't they planning to break ground this month?
  9. Great pictures. It looks like interiors have high-quality appliances/fixtures.
  10. I thought the Hilton - Cleveland Downtown was financed by Cuyahoga County and Hilton was selected by the county as operator.
  11. It is what it is..
  12. I'm definitely a proponent. I used to live in Lakewood and commuted to CCF. How's the West Shoreway conversion project going? Is it achieving its objectives? Has it opened up the lakefront?
  13. For the architectural bluffs, what architectural style would one classify the Beacon as being?
  14. For Nucleus to be such an "iconic" development in their hometown, given the dramatic revisions, starts-stops and ongoing financing/development/construction issues, I simply wonder if they shouldn't get the Nucleus project moving before tackling projects in other cities like Pittsburgh.
  15. According to the Pittsburgh Gazette, Stark has a $63M project in downtown Pittsburgh called Smith & Fifth that's greenlighted. With the Beacon wrapping up and Nucleus still in a holding pattern, are they spreading themselves too thin?
  16. This is great! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. It is Mr. Albert's exactly as I remember it 30 years ago.
  17. Agreed. I guess they did the best the could within their budgetary constraints.
  18. Though born and raised in CLE (mid 50's-mid 70's), my perspective may have become a bit tainted over the years. Having lived in NYC for twenty years and now MIA, I've grown accustomed to seeing buildings that are architectural marvels, each a stunning example of the latest and greatest that the planet's architectural firms have to offer. Cleveland certainly has its share. I just don't think this is one of them.
  19. Beautiful indeed.
  20. I'm not referring exclusively to the panels. If anything, they significantly add to what would otherwise be a very mediocre building. I'm referring to the building as a whole; particularly in comparison to other recently completed, or buildings under construction (Hilton, Lumen).
  21. The Lumen will be such a beautiful and classy addition to the CLE skyline.
  22. Looks cheap.
