Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I got on the red line at Ohio City around 3:45 to go downtown. It was crowded with people going to the game, some families going to the Tower City Easter event, and a number of people heading to the protest with their signs. The station and train were more packed than I've ever seen them. The Ohio City station was particularly smelly on Saturday, so I felt bad that it would be a lot of people's impression of the RTA. RTA employees were pretty nice directing everyone in Tower City despite the crowd, though. Hope that makes up for other unpleasant experiences a bit.

Cleveland: Homeless News & Discussion
Glad this is happening. I joined the clean up event held by the city yesterday to pick up trash and everything left behind in one of the encampments under the Abbey Ave bridge. The sheer amount of garbage was amazing.

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
Great photos. I passed through on my run today and it's starting to look really nice. The sidewalks feel pretty roomy so I'm sure there could be space for a couple street trees if they really wanted. Also, can confirm its a wind tunnel, but today was also just windy in general. I was having a tough run getting pushed around in the wind 🙃

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Its probably a small comfort but at least you aren't alone in wanting RTA to do better. My first ride on the red line after leaving NEOhio in 2019 and moving back last year was a terrible reintroduction: smokers, a man spitting up on the floor then pounding his bike against the wall, teenagers harassing other passengers. All of my rides since have been much better but it was shocking how unpleasant the experience was compared to my memory of the red line. I sometimes see families trying out the train and, at best, I just overhear them complain about how dirty it is. I generally have an optimistic outlook on the future of transit, but RTA feels like it's in rough shape. Still, I'm holding out hope for better some day.

Cleveland: The Term "Northeast Ohio"
I've been guilty of answering "Northeast Ohio" when people ask where I'm from. I think the biggest part of it was me not wanting to say Cleveland but worrying people wouldn't know anything about Akron. I eventually realized Akron has more name recognition than I thought ("Oh! LeBron's hometown!") so I've been just been answering with "Akron, OH" the past few years. Personally, I don't think it makes a huge difference anyway.

Akron: Random Development and News
Keelung to Cuyahoga replied to 3 Dog Pat's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionLocal history: Future looked bright when Midway Plaza debuted in December 1955 https://amp.beaconjournal.com/amp/3789271001 I saw this article and it only briefly mentions development so sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I don't live in Akron anymore so I didn't know that Goodwill left the plaza. I never got to experience Midway Plaza in its glory days so its always been a kind of depressing place to me. I hope they do end up tearing it down and if they do replace it, I hope they would replace it with something a little more pedestrian friendly. I used to ride Metro Route 19 all the time. I'd feel bad all the seniors with their personal shopping carts and parents with young kids in strollers would all have to get of the bus and traverse the large, empty parking lot just to get groceries at Save a Lot.

Personally, I hope the conservancy is able to purchase the land but it seems really unlikely. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2020/09/18/akron-sells-merriman-valley-property-new-housing-development/5818904002/

Akron: Random Development and News
Keelung to Cuyahoga replied to 3 Dog Pat's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI dont know if this is the right forum for this but I walked through Middlebury today. It seems like they've finished the fire station. Middlebury Commons across the corner seems to have made a lot of progress as well.

I took a few pictures today while waiting for the bus. I dont think it looks as bad now that they are finishing it up.

I wouldn't doubt it. It was a bit crumbly even when I was a student 6 years ago. That and half of it would flood anytime it rain.

I just happened to be on campus earlier today and found that they've taken out the bridge in front of ASEC. I guess they might be rebuilding it?

Name your top 5 cities...
I took these a few years ago but I think that was taken in Sanxia or Tucheng which would be part of New Taipei City but still only a half hour train ride from the center of Taipei. That area would be to the left in the first photo.

Name your top 5 cities...
This is my first post but I've been lurking for awhile. Reading through everyone's lists made me made me start to miss my favorite city, Taipei. I moved back to the Akron area last year and, as great as living here can be, I really miss the mountains, the trains, the narrow little streets, not being the only person walking around on the street, etc. Here's my list (both international and US): 1.) Taipei, Taiwan 2.) Portland, Oregon 3.) Osaka, Japan 4.) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 5.) Milwaukee, Wisconsin
