Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Just feels like a bad episode of Succession. Daddy actually resents his son but selfishly needs to make the legal woes disappear to ensure his [restaurant] empire lives on.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
I've felt this way all along. The Bears already showed us the playbook. I have a few personal theories: 1. I can see the Haslams telling CLE that any conversation not including a new build with a dome + significant public funding is a non-starter. In this scenario, the city has not acquiesced to either request. OR 2. They're more-or-less okay with the Lakefront renovation but want a significantly higher contribution from the city/county. I'm more inclined to believe the first because common sense tells you a renovation - regardless of how extensive - is short-sighted. The city, meanwhile, does not want taxpayers footing the bill, especially a new stadium, and have dug in on renovation/equitable cost-sharing. Regardless, it would explain the "stalemate"/plans to leave. And it may well be the case but I just find it hard to believe that (in a vacuum) they view Brook Park more favorably. This based on, well, everything: cost, infrastructure, security, etc., etc.

Could not disagree more. Also, it may not have helped that these were two non-local teams in an awkward situation. I went to a Browns-Lions game in Detroit ~5 years ago. Perfect use case: it was about 38 degrees and freezing rain. There was a ton of activity outside the stadium with fan fests, bars, restaurants, etc. But getting to go inside and take your jacket off was just so damn relieving. I can't imagine the dread of sitting wet and freezing cold for 3+ hours. I really enjoyed Ford Field and felt there wasn't a single element of game atmosphere that was lost. Now imagine something brand new and far improved.

Seems to already be a conflict of interest with the prosecutor. A family worth millions with a bond request for $100k? With the allegations being what they are?

I have the same question but have been too afraid to ask at risk of being ridiculed 😂 And my question extends beyond just Burke: what happened to the USPS site? The Flats? The Industrial Flats?

Seems they heard us:

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
Living nearby, I haven't seen a whole lot of activity but I know there is ample behind-the-scenes work being done. The Front Steps building was originally supposed to be demolished before the end of 2022 - I'm guessing (hoping) that's still the intent.

There is zoning and intended use information signage up around the property, as well.

Haven't seen anything posted about the "Lakeview Connects" project but I have heard a few things from local leaders in-the-know. Apparently, there are proposals to demo Lakeview Estates and replace it with new build apartments - with a section of the area being rebuilt for low-income residents. The long and the short of it is they plan to essentially remove the projects, altogether. Has anyone heard anything more? I also haven't seen anything about the development on the above-pictured lot on Clinton. I will try to join the virtual meeting (rescheduled due to the ALDS) and report back.

Hey may not be a shill but I think it is certainly fair to ask which campaigns (albeit judges or politicians) the Georges contribute to. It's common knowledge that they donate to campaigns on both sides of the aisle in an attempt to influence local policies and to position their businesses for favorable treatment. That may or may not be the case here but public trust in the system has been justifiably broken.

Does anyone have the design mock-ups for the Jamestown building renovation? Would be curious to see what it entails. I’m also going to safely assume Linda’s is not part of this renovation…

Maybe he needs to pay more in HOA fees to add a park to his development.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
Good lord… Feedback on a plan to install massive green space includes calls for more… parking? Why even build a park at all? Just level the entire hillside and fill the river with concrete. Let’s create the world’s biggest surface lot! I mean, I guess it is called a ”park?”

I really like the design. It’s unique and reminds me of a scaled down version of the downtown Hilton. It complements the Quarter well, too.

The facades are almost entirely transparent or opaque to allow light in. I don't think natural light will be a concern.

Happy this is finally coming to fruition after the Thunderbird talks started years ago. The Thunderbird signage has been posted down there so long that they’re completely sun bleached and decaying. Stinks that it took another developer moving in to finally light a fire under NRP but hey, whatever it takes.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
Maybe unrelated but there are around 15 porta potties on the Bridgeworks site as of this week. Could these be for the Irishtown Bend cleanup? Seems like an excessive amount for non-construction… There are also large pieces of plywood covering parts of the county building. Could some sort of interior work already be taking place?

As a Dexter resident, I selfishly hope it’s not a high rise. I love our unobstructed views of the lake and downtown! Also, there is real demand for more retail along with public spaces/green space in Hingetown. I love big buildings and development but part of the charm of this area is historic housing, art, small shops, good food and the feeling of a bustling neighborhood with quick access to downtown life just over the bridge or down 25th. What they’re proposing on that Vibrator site honestly sounds perfect.

I hope so. There are currently FIVE of these sleazy used car lots just between 41st and 47th. These types of places are known for being parasitic on their communities all while knowingly selling broken down cars in bad faith.

Is this project going to (hopefully) include demo of the Kelly Auto site? I'd love to be able to start cutting down on the number of shady used car dealers on Lorain. They just add a skeevy element that doesn't contribute much of anything.

I would agree... An easy solution instead of replacing them would be to commission local artists to paint these. Not sure if that's even viable with that type of plastic though?

Black-owned and Cleveland roots... I love everything Sam does for this neighborhood but he may be off the mark here.

I'm okay with the design but the changes from the previous design are so subtle, it's like playing a "spot the differences between the two pictures" game.
