Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
Does anybody know why Detroit Ave. is virtually untouched in terms of new lighting? Is it in the plans for new LEDs? Compared to the rest of Ohio City, Detroit still looks extremely dim and scary at night with the old brownish-orange lights.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
One month later to the day, street construction crews have not been back for any additional work on West 28th or the traffic circle... Lanes/median/boundary lines have only been painted on one short stretch of Fulton.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Unfortunately, this decision had been looming for a few years regardless of the pandemic and mostly unrelated to finances (until now). I know one of the Sokolowskis my age and according to them, no one from the next generation (sons, daughters, cousins, etc.) had interest in continuing the family business. They each went to school for different things and are on different career paths. The pandemic seems to have expedited the process and made the decision a bit clearer. It’s likely better this way than to have an outsider come in and tarnish a legacy. That said, it’s a sad day regardless.

North Coast Harbor posted an RFP today for an “improvement plan” that can encompass landscaping, drainage, potential attractions, and more.

Any insight into potential tenants yet? I know you’ve been getting radio silence upon inquiries. I’m wondering if maybe some of these will remain vacant until there’s a light at the end of the Covid tunnel?

So, $25m is the estimate for stabilization. What was the cost for the park, landscaping, etc.? The line has been kind of blurred between what money is funneling to the stabilization vs. what is going toward the park/green space. Edit - maybe I'm overthinking it and it's all lumped into the same estimate/project? However, I'd find it hard to believe they'd have cost estimates before planning the design of the park.

They finally paved the majority of the roads today (Fulton and 28th). The traffic circle looks nearly complete with the exception of a few fill-in spots near utility poles that are probably pending make-ready pole work. I believe the original ECD was early October and that looks to be on track.

Good news and hopefully this means work is commencing soon.

Canal Basin Park and Lake Link Trail
I play in a volleyball league at Whiskey. Can't tell you how many times I've ridden my bike there and had to constantly look over my shoulder hoping not to get run over by oncoming traffic. Long overdue and much needed.

The NEO market is pretty saturated with taco restaurants. Between Barrio, Blue Habanero, Hola, Bomba, La Plaza, Condado, and Nuevo, it looks like Bakersfield was the odd man out thanks in part to Covid. I'm hoping that existing building can be repurposed - especially with Intro on the way. A portion of that parking lot would be well-suited for a larger patio, IMO.

As a resident here, I'm extremely excited to keep this momentum going in Hingetown. The exterior of that end of the Schaefer building is an eyesore and desperately needs this face-lift. I think my biggest issue with Quonset-style huts (at least based on the True North design) is the bland, grayish/silver siding. If they can find a way to liven it up with some color and not make it so prison-esque, I think it would go a long way.

Taken yesterday. Looks like the rock gym development is underway at the Masonic Temple. Crane is onsite and appears to be adding to the top of the building.

@urbanetics_ any inkling on their projected timeframe? I know their Instagram bio now says 2021 so fingers crossed this is finally it! I believe they’ve pushed back timing roughly 4 years from their original ECD.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
First of all, it isn't a liquor store. I agree that Linda's probably either needs to close or have its license revoked/suspended simply due to the crime that's become almost contagious in that spot. This summer, alone, incidents include: a man shot in the leg, a stabbing, and now a murder. Unfortunately, they can't continue status quo. That being said, there's no need for racist undertones. Poverty (NOT skin color) can lead to increased crime. All people - especially low income residents and POC - deserve the same amenities that white middle-to-upper class residents enjoy.

They’ve started to do the brick work around Franklin Circle and it looks great. That said, the construction crews are out here roughly once a week at this point and were gone for several weeks at another point. Does anyone know why there are so many work stoppages? It definitely feels like this project could be nearing completion by now... As a side note, these bricks are very old and have some real historical value. The Massillon S&FB Co (stone and fire brick company) - which can be seen on the bricks in the photo - manufactured bricks in the early 1900s and distributed them across the Midwest. That makes this whole thing even cooler, IMO.

Didn’t see any mention of estimated timing for demo to start unless I missed it. Also, anyone (@KJP) have information on the demolition of the Front Steps building? Some of the residents have already started moving to the newly built location down 25th.

It's a great location for a convenience store. God knows I've been pining for a store within walking distance where I can pick up the occasional six pack... But Linda's ain't it.

I still don't understand how cities like Cincinnati implemented these changes in mere days but it took us several months. Just another example of how our city has managed to overcome in the face of incompetent leadership. Imagine how high we'd be flying with a mayor who was actually present.

Would be a huge proponent of this. Some will see it as a shot at the urban community and one purely motivated by gentrification but that is simply not reality. Linda’s does not abide by a single ordinance nor does it prioritize safety. There is a steady wave of people loitering inside and outside of the store (I’ve been in there twice and won’t be back). Zero mask adherence, either. There are CONSTANTLY people drinking from open containers right outside the store and I’ve seen people stumbling around there piss drunk like it’s a bar. My girlfriend and I are both routinely heckled and harassed by store patrons and loiterers every time we pass by (usually trying to get to the bike path). Someone was shot in the leg there back in May. You can’t say they haven’t had a chance to clean it up...

As someone who lives on Church, this is somewhat surprising because their beer garden doesn't even look close to being ready. It’s currently still a pile of dirt with some wood supports in the ground. No volleyball courts have been poured, etc.

I noticed the first story wood facade in these pictures is gray or black. Right now it’s just unfinished wood and I kind of like the look as-is. Does anyone know if they plan to stain the wood like these mockups?

Would be even better if they could get city approval to close off that section of Church (between 28th and 29th) to traffic. That would make for a fantastic Hingetown entertainment epicenter.
