But as the stock of properties available for conversion shrinks, so will those lots eventually. Besides, downtown is booming. Look at the number of people who live in downtown now compared to 20-25 years ago - and it continues to grow. The Cavs and Guards are downtown and they play at home for far more dates than the Browns. No,this stadium doesnt have to be downtown and the city will be fine without it

My biggest concern though is for $3.6B, couldnt there be parking garages instead of that sea of surface lots?

Im ok with this....the move allows the city to truly open up the lakfront. If Burke also closes, imagine the canvas on which to design something meaningful and lasting.

Cleveland: Hotels, Conventions, and Tourism News & Info
These number of daily flights probably reflect cargo ops also (FEDEX, UPS and others). CVG has alot if these flights and CMH has alot of Netjet ops. CVG 1,225 weekly flts Serving 83 airports 12 countries served CMH 942 weekly flts Serving 56 airports 3 countries served CLE 948 weekly flts Serving 50 airports 6 countries served And you are right about the ULCC carriers. They can inflate number of flights but their service is sketchy The concept of non-stop flights being deciding factors in whether company's relocate or where conventions are held is a little overblown If a company wants to relocate, they will always cite non-stop flights because it is one factor that cannot be replicated easily. The losing city can usually match everything the winning city pitches but air service. That us typically mentioned when companys go to CLT, ATL, IAH, DFW, etc NOTE these totals reflect ALL aircaft not just airline flights

Actually, alot of events liked Cleveland but the old CC was not deemed adequate to accomodate those events.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Lets all not forget how secretive SH was with the present tower project. My guess is if you contacted them today about the new HQ Tower, they'd respond "what tower"?

Exactly.....just look at the Scranton Peninsula development. I never thought I would live to see that happen. But there it is!!

If your loyalty status is high enough, contact the hotel directly. They do hold back rooms for availability in situations like this

This is about the best view of downtown i know....coming off the Shoreway headed east...the perception of density is fantastic. I only wish the original Nucleus was part of the shot

I actually go with the Mayor on this one. Let Browns World or whatever it is be built in Brook Park and let the Haslam's have joy of it. As someone pointed out upthread, we've been through 40 years; almost half a century, of Lakefront proposals. Heck, the money spent on all of these consultants could have built a land bridge. We could have the lakefront we've all dreamed of and the Browns can have BP to develop.

Oh i think there will be a definite, loud uproar if this is Cleveland specific. If its County and State then maybe not so much.

And if Cleveland isnt on the hook for a dome, that billion they are being asked to pony up could be used toward a really fantastic lakefront.

Exactly! Baseball stadiums also seem to fit into the urban fabric of a downtown in a way that football stadium does not. Look at Progressive. Football stadiums remind me of a big box store

There's going to public funds for sure and that will be for enhanced infrastructure. It's how those funds are raised is the delicate part

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Ill bet the Haslams leaked it to provoke a response lol

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Im perfectly fine with this. The development could go hand in hand with airport improvements from parking to much needed quality hotels in the airport area

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Is all of that parking going to be surface parking? God, i hope not. Those lots will look like a sea of concrete.

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
The prime rate in the late 70's, very early 80's was around 14%. Even with good credit, an auto loan was north of 20%. And yet, National City, Eaton, Medical Mutual and Ohio Bell all got built. Was North Point built in this era also?
-
Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
Not necessarily. The key is consistancy in the rate of inflation which seems to be in the 3-3.5% range adusted annually. If you can price in those increases with some accuracy, you can then you can have a better handle on your budget and raise funds accordingly. Its the "shocks" that get you. Those cant be budgeted in

But they have opened....look at new housing on Euclid for one. East 4th for another. Granted, its not connected, but it is close enough

I would imagine there is some public money involved here from infrastructure improvements to roadways, interchanges, etc to coinciding with impending airport improvements. The airport needs some good hotels. I think CMH has four on property. PIT has a Hyatt. Also, im assuming parking could be coupled with airport. A couple of parking garages would work. Again, even cities like Albany, Louisville, etc have those and CLE is the busiest of our peer cities. While a ballpark village is likely hot air, it might be more temperate than you think. Not that many years ago, the thought of people living downtown was hot air
