Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
My Sim City dreaming but the State Auto garage is an important piece. I had at one time also thought they should move the plans for the eastern half of the lot and allow even more green space. Orange is priority redevelop for better, more aestetic facilities for CCAD. Ideally including exhibit space. Expand CMA even more (teal). And redo 9th and Washington to match Gay. Edit. And work with the church to do a similar pocket park along gay like they did on Broad with the Justice Park I feel like this is a reasonable size appropriate concept plan for Columbus without dreaming up or expecting some major, massive expansion and plan. And still waiting to see where all Wexner's art goes... I'm a bit of an art museum junkie and a collection like his, (purportedly one of the largest piccasso collections in the world, among the many other modern art) has the potential to result in wings dedicated to these collections in other places. We shall see where it goes though... OSU, CMA, its own facility, or another institution, etc...anywho...

But, in all seriousness, watch this space. State Auto merged with Liberty Insurance. The acquisition was completed last March so there may be a shake up given the nature of mergers and acquisitions. FWIW, I have no underlying knowledge of anything specific but there are potentially more factors that could impact land use now.

My brain still only functions in Jeffrey Parks. I Haven't converted to Brige Parks fully yet.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
I am interested to see this comprehensive study. It is fun though to hear the same thing for 60 years. And just roll your eyes at people who have no concept of the fact that parking rates in Columbus are ridiculously low as is. Edit: I just hate that State Auto isn't doing anything. I know I preach collaboration alot but there is so much potential for a garage on State Autos property to unlock a really cool art campus master plan on Gay Street.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
We've waited 30 years for them to do something, what's a couple more? Lol I wanted to have the right year but it looks like Franklin County Auditor is requiring an account to use Map Search now? WSJ put out a nice little video recently about vacant lots. Looks like Detroit is poised to the biggest city to institute Land Value Taxes to try and help spur that turnover or development. Let's hope it works and Columbus takes a few lessons.

Gahanna: Developments and News
Who will think of the children?! And the lights?! But you know, walking distance the other direction is a conglomerate of suburban strip malls with thousand of STRANGERS Call me weird, but I'd be ok with it. I'd go there for quick stuff over Hamilton Road if I lived that way.

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI still assert that this area of downtown would be interesting if there was a plethora of buildings in various bold colors. The rainbow district or something along those lines.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I think this is where the city, developers, and the GCAC are going to need to work on keeping artist rents affordable and hold developers at bay in some respects. If they go the way of the Short North on rent with no concerted effort to keep artist rent largely affordable they risk losing what made Franklinton to begin with. I've said before that it's way too late for the SN but in the end, what it has become is not bad. Yes, it's not what it was, but it's an absolute asset to the city. We would be foolish to allow Franklinton to do the same though. Esepcially when the peninsula and downtown can bear the higher end markets for retail, etc. Franklinton has more than what the Short North could ever have in terms of maker space and I don't think that many if any other parts of the city could also support such a concentration of maker spaces like this so let's work to preserve it as best as we can.

Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWe are going down a rabbit hole but I will defend their old hashbrowns that had onions and herbs. They were the best thing about it. But more on topic, if the CV Timmy's goes, it opens up space for another hookah bar solidifying that area's importance for Mediterranean/Middle East/African cultural hub. Ideally though, I'd like the city to reclaim it and just expand portal park so it actually opens to Glen Echo. I know we will never realize a daylighted ravine but I think an expanded Portal Park would be a great addition to a spot that is bursting with potential I the coming decade.

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
Unpopular opinion, apparently. I like the galleria building. With a refresh, maybe some sort of expansion on the back half, it would look like a regular museum of modern art or something constructed for public use. Which, I have always desired a dedicated museum of modern art but this could be something else redesigned for public enjoyment. Is it the best use of downtown space, no? But it also one of the few glass dominated structures and has potential within itself. Especially being tied in to the elevated park, a creative seemless integration into an atrium with a restaurant etc etc. You get the idea. While small, and a complete reinvention of the interior needed, there's potential in it and yes, in some ways, architectural significance. Maybe this becomes Edwards private art museum similar to tue Pizutti Collection. I didn't mind the removal of the addition from the Broad side since it looked awkward juxtaposed so narrowly and the third side was remaining. Let the adamant opposition of defending the Galleria begin. Lol

I dont have an issue with fishing because if they DID get the right tenant and it gets built, awesome, but it has always hinged on tenant and financing. How long is reasonable to wait for the unicorn for the big project or revamp. I'm totally fine with them continuing to seek a tenant rather than just have given up all together but I also wish they had revised their plans by no or released the property.

What was the change? Is it just Arshot fishing? Gotta change up the bait occasionally? Seeing if they can still snag the unsuspecting tenant?

Columbus: Harrison West / Dennison Place Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's the photo. I tried to get a good look at it the other day and the color is the same as the original and the texture of the brick is also more coarse than most new brick. I'd say there's a very good chance it it original brick or at least, a pretty good match to the original. The other factor is the original building had red Mortar on a light colored brick and the new mortar is still pretty red given its newness.

Columbus: Riverside Methodist Hospital Projects
Cleveland has 2 Adult Level 1s. UH and MH both have Level 1s in the city.

Columbus: Riverside Methodist Hospital Projects
There are 2 Adult Level 1 (Grant and OSU Wexner) and 1 pediatric Level 1 (Children's) I had asked someone somewhat in the know if moving Riverside from Level 2 to Level 1 is in the cards at some point and was told there's no reason or demand for it at this point.

Maybe they're going to tear down the Human Resources Building next to the Bing if HR has moved to the office campus?

If someone tried to move my family's graves I'd say go ahead. As long as they're funding it, it is what it is. 🤷

Columbus: Riverside Methodist Hospital Projects
One might be accused of being cold but the cemeteries hinder alot too. It's way too taboo these days to suggest relocating cemeteries but it would honestly be in the best interest of the city to redevelop the land at what could be a critical multi-modal hub. But thats another discussing for a SimCity thread I suppose.

Columbus: Riverside Methodist Hospital Projects
I wonder what the master plan looks like over time. When they will start build a new general inpatient tower and tear down any old or outdated sections of the hospital. Almost seems like a nice central tower taller than the women's and Neuro wing would look really sharp.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm not sure. If there was plans to, you'd think it would be part of the Overall Monarch Project. They could rework the whole plan for something bigger but not sure what their appetite is for it. The two buildings in the back are bastardized houses (based on the rooflines) and I would argue non-contributing so in theory, Wood could have half a block for something special. But I wonder if they would have concerns over some of the impact on the tenants. It's funny we are talking about infill like this because I'm working on an Old North post about the insane opportunities for more infill like the View on Pavey throughout that part of town. Might take a few days but it's quite a bit

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe good thing is Wood doesn't do any of those so anything they build it going to be neighborhood appropriate. If they dont go for a showpiece, they will mirror the Northern half of the block that Wood built.

DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWas there also a rumor about Salon Lofts having a pretty iron clad lease that prevented more timely redevelopment? There was thoughts that once the lofts at the Hub opened, they'd wind down Price but that hasn't been the case. They clearly meet demand enough that Salon Lofts may not give up the location easily if they can.

Dublin: Bridge Park / Bridge Street District Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm not saying one entity did have control. When i reference bridge park, I mean all parties involved. I understand all those implications but it doesn't change the desire that all those entities should have done better. As a resident of the UD I deal with the same frustration over 23 and how much power the state holds over what should be a city road at this point but it also doesn't mean that entities should fight for better. It very much aligns with my overall complaint that we are consistent hampered from better development largely because the state holds back other entities from going bigger, bolder, or at times, even just instituting basic fundamentals of urban design.
