Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI dont think that helipad has been in use for awhile. The main pad on the existing medical center is the only one I've recalled seeing being used. I cant tell if there will be a new one on the north part of the tower. It almost seems like the infrastructure would be there. Edit: as a level one trauma center and a major hospital, I would also expect a helipad to be able to accommodate multiple helicopters. When Summa updated Akron City a number of years ago, they built their about twice the size of OSUs to accommodate two if needed. As an additional element to that (including Summa), some hospitals helipad are specifically designed to accommodate Marine One.... which goes hand in hand with being able to handle multiple helicopters. I might spy something here?

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
Can we get this kind of media hype team for the new Hilton and other major projects? As a thought, I wonder if this will finally help sway some movement on the riverfront cultural spot the city has long been trying to fill after the failed zoo levy.

DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm really curious about this timeline and construction. That parking deck and helipad have to be demolished. It is still open until 12/21 and thats going to take time to tear down and haul off. Are they going to be laying groundwork and foundation on one half while still demolishing the deck? Or does the tower indeed fit in that adjacent hole in the ground and the overlays are a little off?

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThen it wouldn't be up to city muster making me hope that it was more temporary in its design. That big box on the side is also odd for a 5g tower. Is it possible this was a service pole for the construction site with a temp street lamp, transformer of some sort, and temp location of 5g? Place your bets on temp or permanent. Fingers crossed it was temp.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionCities cannot prevent the installation but cities can specify if a pole should be a certain material based on location and they can also make requirements for adjusting location slightly. Thats why we see metal in certain areas. Worthington successfully required certain appearances. All poles are put out for public comment too but it's probably too overwhelming to keep up and commissions didn't have alot of time to get specifics in the community standards. Oddly, short north was not listed a a neighborhood that requires metal poles in this article https://www.thisweeknews.com/news/20200106/upset-over-placement-of-5g-cell-towers-in-your-neighborhood-not-much-city-state-can-do

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt used to have a street light so I bet is just preceded the new building whereas the other one is new, coinciding with the installation of the high street reno. Granted, being this close is not out of the realm of possibilities but I also wonder if the new one is meant to replace the other. They removed the streetlight it seems. But also, the city has been terrible on just letting these go up wherever and look however.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Thats correct. A couple of the handlers were moved from the green building to the front temporarily. Thats why the sidewalk was closed long before we saw alot of action on site. I've recopied pertinent photos from other posts.

DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThats what I'd put money on. There will be a new GE on the Southside at some point. I might have guessed sooner than later though.

Columbus: Olentangy River Road Developments
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionTo me its like walking into 90s nickelodeon aesthetic. I'm not sure the entry has been repainted since it opened. (I'm sure it has but it doesn't feel like it) New paint, carpet, and some minor edits to the decor will go a long way. That excludes any overhaul for recliners, food service, etc that might be beneficial for continuing to attract new business.

DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNBC confirming it will reopen under Phoenix https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/lennox-town-center-movie-theatre-to-reopen-under-new-management/ Phoenix Theatres Entertainment President & CEO Phil Zacheretti confirmed Tuesday that his company will be the new operator of the venue. He says the theatre will remain closed for the next few weeks to allow for changes to be made. He hopes it will reopen before Christmas Day. Doesn't seem like much of a big makeover could be made before the reopening. Hopefully that's in the long term.

Columbus: Olentangy River Road Developments
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI wish they would but I have a hard time believing the current owners of the property will. It has so much potential. I expect it will take a full selling of the property to hope for something bigger. They lost an opportunity to start that process by building Marshall's instead of a garage in that spot. It also points to their long term priorities if they went to the trouble of creating a suburban big box accommodation so recently. And the tenants are big brand names filling the complex so breaking those leases might also be a sticking point Unlike the ackerman/Olentangy development that was largely outdated with tenants that appeared to be largely ok with losing the location. Perhaps the city can create some irresistable incentives as part of the corridor plan.

Columbus: Olentangy River Road Developments
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI doubt it will be empty for too long. Surely another theater conglomerate will swoop it up being essentially the only major complex in the core. It needed a pretty major refresh IMO anyway. I would have though AMC might have taken the opportunity to do that now but they might not be investing any real capital given the economic conditions for movies and theaters. In the meantime, hopefully this will drive some business to Gateway especially once things start to get back into some semblance of normalcy next year.

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
This is definitely a regular thing. My own family will come down from NEO just to go to Easton since it opened. Growing up there we would come down a couple times a year. It was very regular for people in the community. Can't convince them to experience the Short North or anything else in the city except Easton and The Shoe. Thats all Columbus is to a significant portion of the state. Now, as a Columbus resident, I dont think I've been to Easton for almost 2 years. Back to the TIF though. Perhaps I missed it, but is there a specific boundary outlined? Is this different than the linden plan? Also, is there are increased accountability for housing?

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
CU has update to include commentary from the developer and I'm very impressed. As much as 2/3 could be below market rate.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
This gives me more hope that Franklinton can get the fun, quirky, modern architecture. I was worried that gravity 2.0 might encourage developers to start heading toward more bland development but this is great. Gravity 2.0 is great but after the precedent they set with 1.0, I wanted more tbh. Lots of hate for it on CU which surprises me. There is merit to maybe comparing it to an oceanside florida building with sharp edges maybe but certainly not hideous IMO. One of the most exciting parts is I believe they only have 18 parking spots. It's another gamble into the low parking availability.

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIts a long term garage. My guess is visibility. There wouldn't be a ton of need to make a big deal out of the facade if it will be surrounded by buildings in the future. That being said, I think all the medical center garages should install uniform screening with easily discernable labels even with future obstructions. I'm a sucker for continuity. Edit: What this plan really needs is a people mover to do a continuous loop between all the medical buildings and garages. A real missed opportunity there... in a fantastical world.

Columbus Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
This (or whatever version was most recent) appears to have died. The windows are boarded up and a for lease sign went up within the last week or so. I hope another similar concept can come along. I was really rooting for some more oomph to south Clintonville.

DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionMy biggest beef will be the massing. As we shared before, you can have density without feeling monolithic. This still feels a bit monolithic. Definitely some improvement but I wish they would go bolder in their vision with details as well.

DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm a bit surprised there doesn't appear to be much more than a single underground level. I might have expected 2 basement levels but perhaps that's me being used to old hospital designs where alot of things were put in basements including the cafeterias and such that have largely been moved upwards.

Columbus: Old North Columbus Developments and News
Ugh.... why is this even allowed.... Worthington freaked out when they were getting the discreet metal ones on or adjacent to light posts.... elsewhere communities are getting Shafted with crappy aesthetic and even worse intrusion of pedestrian ROW. Especially given the northern sidewalk it half electic poles.... Even the ones on the Scioto mile drive me nuts bexuase they have a post and a separate meter base... mind boggling.

I still wish the modern hotel that played off the Northside Branch had come to fruition here... not always a fan of tearing down old but the new block with modern library and hotel would have been worth it.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis one in Cleveland is a local favorite of mine and I would promote something similar maybe using the roof pattern and colors of the convention center. There is one going up in Chicago in West Loop that is a STUNNING kinetic motion screen. I could watch it for hours... similar to this... which is what we should have gone with if we were aiming for kinetic.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere's no bias. It is objectively terrible and half-a$$ed. It looks terrible day and night. Windy or calm. I really hate it everytime I go by it. There are so many more good examples of garage wraps they could have used. Some better ones probably would have been cheaper too. And with this being a major entrance into the downtown core, it deserved to be better. I think one of the oddities that drives me nuts is that the inclines are easily visible behind it. If that was the flat side and the curtains ran parallel or If they ran the curtains diagonally maybe it would be better. While the Goodale garage isn't necessarily anything amazing, I'll take 10 more of those over the curtain design. Also, the colors of the goodale garage can be tied to the convention center. This garage and the curtains don't really 'mesh' with the identity of the convention center IMO Sorry for the rant. I just hate so much. Lol.

Columbus: Franklin Park / Trolley District Developments and News
DTCL11 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionInterestingly, I believe there may have been a fire of some sort. When I went by a couple weeks ago, the road was soaked and muddy (there had been no recent rain), roof debris on the road, multiple police were present, and a firetruck was around the corner emptying hoses. Since then the building is now boarded up. There appears to be a roof disturbance in the area where the roofing debris and water was. I dont know how to verify it but the surrounding factors seems to point to that.
