  1. AEP did that over 77 at the Hall of Fame in Canton... (this photos is from when they tested it)
  2. A pipe dream, if you will, but It would be nice if they would work with an artist and make the stacks sculptural (or at least the facades sculptural in some way). I understand the need for the plant but it need not be solely utilitarian. Would be nice to have something more unique than a regular stack with some decals at best on it. Especially given the location.
  3. So.... the commission is buying into THIS design rather than the previous designs that had far more details and blended some of the historic elements with modern touches beautifully..... the commission was so concerned with density they gave up on a higher quality development for.... this?
  4. This likely explains why the cascades at Franklin Park have been off as well. Perhaps we don't have a lemon this time afterall!
  5. Good news is they were under construction and not occupied. I'll take that any day.
  6. We've heard from Rockbridge. But they are only one piece, no? What about the North Market, the City, the Wood Cos, NBBJ, etc etc (I don't recall all the players)? To my knowledge Rockbridge is going to manage the hotel component. They aren't necessarily the lead developer(s) and I'm not sure what their financial interest is in beyond running the hotel component? I'm not 100% certain on how its all divided up but I would sure feel better if we were hearing from some of the other major players involved. I may have them confused on the roles and apologize if I do but it just stood out to me that Rockbridge is the point man. Maybe a media company needs to reach out to the other players and see if the message is consistent.
  7. These have been 2 of my favorite buildings in Franklinton for a long time. It is a shame to lose the third floor but after 2 engineering and feasibility studies, I think the commission should be a bit forgiving with 80% of the original structures remaining. In my mind, one could almost create a metal structure that shows the original shape of the building and then use that as structure for rooftop amenity cover etc. Makes sense in my head. Maybe not here lol.
  8. I'm not willing to throw in the towel just yet and I still think it has a decent chance given its partners, but again, it just follows the patterns of other projects in many other places that don't come through. The list of projects that come to fruition 5 years after announcement, multiple delays, etc jn any city is relatively short. I use Arshot and Stark as local examples but there are plenty more in other places. Additionally, its not like an IBEW site issue where the commission is pushing them back. Where you have that kind of back and forth for years, those projects are more likely to come together but this is getting pushed back and delayed for largely financial reason it seems. Come winter/early spring, if we aren't seeing solid plans to put shovels in the ground next year, then I'll probably be ready to put a fork in it myself. I will say this. Those who noticed the parking vendor change were correct in assumptions that the market would have only done that if they didn't plan on breaking ground for awhile.
  9. Yes we read it. But it reads no more committed than any of the quotes since the design contest was launched in 2016. Every proposal had that same lofty language in it. The announcement stressed how important this project is to the city and how they are going to move to get it done by Spring 2020.... [taps watch]...
  10. Not to be too skeptical but this project is giving me SPARC, Millenial, NuCLEus etc al vibes. If I am to understand the article correctly, they won't be starting construction on Market Tower until 2021 now? It also strikes me that the relatively recent proposal for the peninsula would take immediate priority over something in the works for much longer. They still haven't given much in the way for the delays other than 'we want to get it right' and changing the design entirely. I just want them to do something feasible. If Columbus isn't the place for 30 story buildings right now, so be it. Stop waiting around years upon years trying to land the right tenants and build what is feasible. I would have taken a completed 10 story building on that lot today over waiting another year for the possibility of construction. Don't mind me being a bit salty over further delays.
  11. Nothing. Parking lot operations are still normal as of last weekend when I went by. I can't speak for any day to day details like more core testing or not.
  12. Still playing around below and dismantling the current building. I haven't seen anything that would indicate moving towards vertical soon.
  13. Maybe they can cut it into a few pieces and use the recycled pedestrian bridge to connect the new peninsula buildings..... /s ? The proposed ones are just about as appealing...
  14. And sadly, the rental market is strong enough that this won't have any real blow back for them and their overpriced 'extended stay hotels'. Maybe the city can finally close that loophole.
  15. The fact they were taken down indicates to me more than a pause and more of a re-evaluation. Its possible that we are going to see re consideration of what the build out will look like. The nature of retail and office is going to look very different for a long time. I can see where plans to build out office space and retail are on hold and will be affected in the long term needing a redesign. It's also going to take a while for an entity like Easton to evaluate whether they can return to the original concept or have to re-envision it. Part of me feels this may also alter the massive amount of office space for the peninsula. It would make sense that Easton and others want to wait it out and see what the markets will do for at least 6 months or even longer. Companies are already taking the WFH experiment and making them permanent. Anecdotally, Nationwide has announced that as of November, they will close all but the 4 main campuses (Columbus, Scottsdale, Des Moines, and San Antonio) and moving to 1/3 of the company to working from home permanently (nearly doubling the current WFH staff) with additional doing hybrid work from home utilizing shared spaces a couple days a week effectively turning alot of office space into proprietary co-working space. This is going to allow Nationwide to start leasing out sections of Grandview yard or additional office space downtown for other companies with a few thousand less employees reporting every day and more using shared space. The days of dedicated desks may be going by the wayside (until the pendulumswings back the other way). I am certain that Nationwide is not the only company doing the same putting developers on edge.
  16. The cranes at the LC sat virtually unused for what seemed like years. You would thing the money behind Easton could afford a couple months of lag and still be fine....
  17. Finally got a good picture of the north end where you can see they cantilevered the new over the old leaving the roof in tact as well. The did not do the same with the other buildings as far as I can tell.
  18. I keep forgetting to grab a pic but the restoration of the north building is fascinating. I am excited to see the outcome and why they went through such effort to preserve it.
  19. Steel pylons going in at Summit and 5th. More heavy equipment on site.
  20. They have been moving dirt on site this week. Looks like we may be seeing it take form soon.
  21. Perhaps I'm a minority but the wires there never bothered me. I find them an aspect of city life. Maybe not as charming as arches to carry electricity but I'm definitely not in the boat that thinks they *should* or *need* to be buried. And with the area being what it is, I think the best that could be hoped for is alley access. Burying those lines would be several times over the average '$1mil per mile'. Not accounting for any complications of sewer gas and water in one of the oldest parts of the city.
  22. That was my question in a roundabout way. I'm surprised its not VV commission then. Either way....
  23. Wow. Is that something the commission would have voted on? Rejecting the Kaufman project repeatedly but approving this junk? The least they could have done is made it all brick instead of what appears to be EIFS. Disappointing to say the least.
  24. ^oh god... the last thing we need in a global pandemic is an existential discussion on the ease or lack thereof to find parking at any given time. ?
  25. It's ok. It was honestly a valid point that many of my own friends wondered at the time. It was a bit lopsided for a moment on what was cancelled and what was not.
